Sliver Deck, help!

  • #1
Alright, old MTG fella here that cant let go of the feel of some classic MTG, including the old Sliver Deck.

I quit some years back when my cards got stolen (over $70,000.00 worth if I sold them individually today) and lost interest. Now, since Ive been getting into Warhammer40k, hanging out with my game store buddies online, I figured I would bring back an old love I had in MTG. Re-learning the rules and all, keeping it T1 to play against first turn combo killers, playing against decks worth over two grand each. Slivers seemed a worthy opponent after looking at them among other choices I was interested in.

So after the long intro and first post. The question.

What are the pro's/cons of a sliver deck, and what are the must-have non-sliver cards for many sliver combinations? (I plan on 4 of every sliver card just for a collector/gamer perspective)

-Old red gobby rush deck, black sack deck player.

silvers are terrible in T1. Now if you want to make a casual deck following the T1 B/R list thats fine, but you would find more info in the casual forum.

As far as finding cards goes, magiccards.info is a great site, you can find alot of things you are looking for with their advanced search feature.

Slivers pretty much plays like a fish deck -- aggro control. Unfortunately, as an aggro deck it isn't very fast (since you need multiple different sliver of several colors in play to get them up to speed), and as a control deck slivers don't cut it (since slivers themselves don't offer much in the way of control).

Likely, the best sliver build would be UW, relying on aether vial to get slivers quickly into play, swords to plowshares, meddling mage, and various countermagic to provide the control aspect. There's several threads on the casual forums; just automatically ignore any that includes stuff like gemhide sliver or non-inclusion of aether vial. Or you can look up the legacy forums for some competitive legacy builds (slivers recently won legacy world championship). The core of the legacy build is pretty much the same as you wold build vintage, minus power cards.

If you want to learn more about the UW deck Mondu's talking about, just poke around in Legacy section of these forums for 'Meathooks' or 'Countersliver' deck. It's quite brutal.

Wouldn't they have to edit that for the Chinese markets?

I plan on producing several multi-color decks with these being my mana source for each of them.

The secondary deck will be a few-critter control and annihilate type. Thanks for the heads up on 1.5! I do need some updating on some of the newer things. (about 6 years out of the loop)

    4) Thran Quarry
    4) Reflecting Pool
    4) Tendo Ice Bridge
    4) Grand Coliseum
    4) Shimmering Grotto
    2) Crystal Quarry

-Oh darn cant post decklists here.

Good thing I double checked the rules. (Like I ever read 'em)

Please post what you want on the sliver deck. (I know AEther Storm, there are ways around it with just slivers)
