I think I like Viper still quite a bit more there, though I want to fit in Elves.
I'm probably adding the +1/+1 Gnarlid Colony and the menace one, really enjoy the counters theme.
yeah the viper is good, but im in the process of cutting down green 2 drops to encourage manaelf into 3 drop, so the change hurt less. the additional power isnt really neccessary on deathtouch and it lacks reach . im not planning to attack with it anyway. flash is obv. nice.
Im actually curious about this. How hard is it for opponent to get "threshold" cause a 4/4 menace for 4 is good. Better in mill decks/support I suppose.
reaching thresh7 was almost in impossible in my cube when i still had some (werebear).
so unless you have some mill/discard in your cube/deck dont expect to enable this thing.
I'm interested in the 4 mana White Creature that has Landfall to gain +1/+1 Counters as that is still a theme I am trying to keep active in my W/G sections and I am also gonna try out the Red Steppe Lynx if I keep bumping up my cube size past 540, which I am strongly considering doing. Overall though, I agree not a ton of super exciting stuff.
Frankly though, I think I am kind of glad for that. The power creep lately has been ridiculous, that combined with all the downshifts (like Cast Down becoming common in Double Masters) has led to a bit of "power creep fatigue" for me, and I'm gonna be kinda glad if they give it a rest for a bit.
ìm always excited to add new cards to my cube to keep it interesting and i started to pimp it lately, so fresh cards (with alternate arts) are highly welcome. i hope time spiral2 gives us great timeshifted artworks. I can understand why people get scared by the powercreep, but overall i dont feel wotc has crossed the line yet. a second doomblade barely makes a difference in a world where i did cut back on removal quite a time ago already. everybody who doesnt like downshifts could start a "pure" pauper cube where only cards allowed that were always common

We have had some sets in the recent past witch lacked any staples, which were kind of a let down, but at least there were usually some cards to support specific archetypes.

In terms of Standard, higher rarities and other formats I think they have made awful errors and horrible levels of power creep. In terms of cards at common specifically, I agree with you, like you said I am just worried their power creep and poor judgement might extend to the common level.
It is a consequence of playing a 27 year old eternal format I suppose, it gets progressively harder and harder for new sets to add cards that are better than anything previous unless they just straight power creep things. I am super excited for Timespiral and what thay could bring though.
yeah other format got wrecked but also restored via bannings. part of the reason i prefer cube in general. but wotc found their formula how a common looks like and besides some minor stat boosts, i dont see how they can mess it up.
also, as someone playing for 25years, powerlevel has always been up and down. so expect next standards to be low again.
spoilers are ebbing down, i guess weve seen pretty much the whole set by now
I've ssen a lot of people going nuts over Roil Eruption. Am I crazy for thinking it is fine if you want Lightning Strike variant #10 or whatever, but that it is not that amazing and worse than many of the other ones?
hm, i completely overlooked its any target. that makes it actually better than lightning strike. dunno if i can find room for it without replacing though. how is it worse though?
Roil Eruption's downside compared to Lightning Strike is it is Sorcery speed. Also the kicker while nice is absurdly expensive, 7 mana is a ton. I feel like it is just going to be Sorcery Speed Lightning Strike in a huge percentage of games. Obviously whatever percent of the time you cast it for its Kicker could be hugely relevant, I just don't know if it is going to come up enough to matter.
The comparison to Burst Lightning is apt, but again Sorcery vs Instant and a 5 mana Kicker is a lot more doable than a 7 mana Kicker.
I'm not discounting it completely, but I am not sure I wanna cut any of my other Bolt/Strike variants for it just yet.

By my count we've seen 60 commons so still ~40 to go assuming it is the normal 101 commons.
Oh, and since a bunch of commons are being spoiled because previewers are getting full "partys" to spoil some of the commons previewed have been limited fodder. So there might be some non sucky ones left still.
I think the Eruption beats Rift Bolt for me. The potential upside of damage beats the forecasting cheaper cost for me. (Rift is better in a dedicated burn deck, which rarely a thing in cube)

man i suck at reading cards. i assumed the roil is just another creature removal, then i thought its instant. lol.
well kartigan said its a lightning strike, to my excuse.
ok easy pass for me then, thank god.
I def prefer Rift Bolt, since its easy to squeeze in on the curve and burnlike deck is def a thing in my cube. unless 2 players start going into it.
i think it best replaces an X-burnspell, since its better early and slightly worse later.
boost a manaelf, play a land, draw a card, gain 2 life. what an effect stew, but i really like it. i just dont have space.
That's a tough one. It does a lot, but what deck does it want. I only see it in green ramp, and then it becomes a little more narrow. In limited it will be good in landfall decks

the gnarlid is johnnycube material (t2)

{4}{W}: Creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn.
at this point i kinda lose hope we get a staple card in this set

unkicked this is a reasonable softremoval for U

Very. Cliffside Lookout is just a 1/1 instead of 1/2. There is also Sunblade Elf in two colors.
Sunblade is uc
i guess the effect isnt horrible and a 1/2 has chances to survive til ~T5. But why not cast Angel of the Dawn imstead?

Dont think i saw supplies on here. I dont think ita enough?
Roil Eruption is good. Burst lightning's older brother. Good early and late game, hits any target.

seems the best of the cmc4 landfall cycle. green is more likely to drop more lands.
one of the better pumpspells, thanks to its flexibility
