I'm ok with the competition. Every tri land having a 70% chance of making a pack 1 card short for the drafter looking at it is a bigger problem to me. It's not like every tri land will end up in a deck, even if the right drafter is at the table. But every thriving land has an extremely good chance of making it in even when it's down to the last 1-2 cards in a pack.
Hm
Rough estimate, but I guess that since there are twice as many tri lands, I guess you could just double the "get into a deck" rate in order to see how much more or less they help the table with their mana compared to the thriving lands. In a sealed pool, the 30% rate would translate to being 60% as effective as the thriving lands in aggregate (while eating slots in my pool). In a format like draft where multiple people get a pass, then the math becomes harder because then we're dealing with pick order.
If we could ballpark a value for a dual land (say, better than 30% or 50% or 60% of the cards that are in your colors) I could probably estimate how often a they would get drafted into the right decks.

This problem of the dead cards is especially exacerbated for a guy like me who is most likely not drafting with a full table, but one other person.
I didn't do the maths, but I think I will cut Vivid lands to make space for Thriving lands. The option to have always the color I want seems better that having that color only two turns. Isn't it? I don't know
Spiteful Prankster seems decent for aggro. 3 power first strike when attacking, and the ping ability provides reach when your small creatures start getting outclassed. Even triggers off of opponent's creatures.
EDIT: Just realized this is just a better Hissing Iguanar. Easy swap for me.
I agree that Spiteful Prankster will be a staple, great card. I won't cut Hissing Iguanar though because it is stil a good card (great in any aggro deck, especially in WR go wide and BR sacrifice) and I have other cards I can cut in red.
I also like Brightmare, will add that one as well. A 2/3 creature, tapping a creature and a few points of life for 3 mana is pretty good value.
Spiteful Prankster seems like it will be a staple indeed. Hissing Iguanar has been a pet favorite of mine since it was printed so I think I'll try and find another cut.
I don't like Brightmare. It compares poorly to Kor Hookmaster in aggro and why would you want to tap a creature once in other decks?

It's a midrange card. You tap a creature and get in for an attack, you get life and you get a decent creature. It's also good in the blink/bounce archetype.
Certainly not a great card overall and often it will only be an overcosted Lone Missionary if it's played on turn 3, but I could need a few more white three drops so I'll test it.
It just seems it does both (being a tapper and/or gain life) so much worse than other options. On turn 3 it will gain 2 or 3 life? It might be decent in 540+.

This is why I also like them. I draft with one other person, and dead cards was an issue. I recently added the trilans as I wanted a bit more fixing than the 10 rainbow/vivid lands I allready had. The trilands will be replaced and I guess I will add 1 card in each colour.
Brightmare saves as much life as kor hookmaster (marginally less since it doesn't account for the occasional times the creature gets more power next turn, I suppose) but one fewer free attack isn't worth 1 toughness. It's like 80% as good in a vacuum and worse the more blink support you have.
I can empathize with feeling like wizards has left you behind and in need of a slot filler, since that's why I ran frost lynx alongside man-o-war.
This is pretty tempting, not gonna lie. It's like a Seeker of the Way that you cannot pump past 1 trigger and which does not register instants and sorceries (and actually, cannot be used defensively, either) but which gets pumped semi-permanently once enables by a piece of equipment or the like.
"When (and only when) Stone Haven Pilgrim attacks, if you also have one of the 30 cards in your cube i care about it on the board, I get decent stats until EOT."
Full list is up; seems like we got zero downshifts from rare this time around. Even with some of the nice new inclusions, that's a shame. I like seeing what's considered appropriate for Uncommon in terms of cards which were previously treated as rares (even if non-Standard releases are always a different beast from basic sets).
spiteful prankster is pretty nice, definite upgrade over hissing iguanar which is nice since the body on iguanar was always a bit sketchy.
stone haven pilgrim looks ok but way too narrow of a trigger, unless you support the enchantment theme in g/w.
how do we feel about chained brute? feels like the next most cubeable card out of the new cards. maybe not amazing, but honestly the untap isn't as costly as it could be, and it's a slight variation on a sac outlet. not saying it's particularly good though...
Wow spiteful prankster is 10 dollars wtf.
And the thriving lands are 8?
I wouldn't worry about prices before release. They fluctuate so much. And considering the quality of reprints in this set, I think it will sell well enough to make the cards we want significantly cheaper and more widely available.
bloodrage brawler has been really really good for me, it’s possible the brute could be tested If you support sacrifice themes... I’m going to pick one up, not sure it will make it in though
I feel like Chained Brute could have its uses without the mana cost on the effect. With that tagged on in addition to the sacrifice, the cost is way too high for something that never scales up beyond that baseline; unlike the other devil that gets counters from sacrifices and has trample. It catches up to the brute in two activations, doesn't require them to operate, and scales up with every subsequent activation.

I don’t think either are particularly strong unless you are pushing sacrifice in red, but the brute does come down untapped on turn 2 as a 4/3 which is really strong.. the long game sure it’s possible for hobble whatever to be better and it doesn’t have the “does not Un-tap” phrase, but idk, seems like the brute still might just be better as It can push huge early dmg

pass.
Spiteful Prankster however is sick.
Draft it on Cubetutor here, and CubeCobra here.
Treasure Cruise did nothing wrong.

Chained Brute in addition to other recent support might be able to help facilitate an aggro aristocrats style deck? Spiteful Prankster obviously helps in addition to Hissing Iguanar and the already existing black support, but we've also gotten a lot of decent support in Hobblefiend, Traitorous Greed, and Claim the Firstborn. With other recent red midranged support like Tibalt, Rakish Instigator and Light Up the Stage it might have enough pieces? Noticeably Heartfire Immolator also triggers Mayhem Devil (or Havoc Jester) if you want to go deeper. Seems a bit hard to justify playing it without a decent number of those pieces though.
And the thriving lands are 8?
