Aven Eternal better than Eldrazi Skyspawner? +1 toughness versus +1 mana if needed. Arboreal Gazer is interesting for ramping decks Return to Nature is the catch all sideboard card if people play sideboard cards Sky Theather Strix probably one of the better creatures in the set? Evasion + pseudo-prowess
a couple of cards will go into T3 which will make it a pretty decent counter themed cube at least.
overall disappointing set, especially with the "exciting" announcment. powerlevel wise the set is horrible and i also fail to see a shift to more complex commons.
Apart from the auto include Law-Rune Enforcer I'm also interested in the following cards for my cube: Ahn-Crop Invader: This will probably make the cut for me. It doesn't have the blocking properties of Fault Riders, but I really like the offensive capabilities paired with my swarm theme. Aven Eternal: I think Eldrazi Skyspawner is better in blue, because the mana can be very important, but this is obviously also very solid. Jaya's Greeting: Not being able to target the player is definitely a real bummer, but considering, that most burn spells aim for creatures anyway, this is just incredibly solid. Spellgorger Weird: I don't really support the spells matter theme and I'm not a big fan of the prowess ability in general, because it requires you to constantly play spells with a forced timing (pre combat or mid combat), if you want to get the value out of it. Keeping the Counters negates this downside. You can threaten to pump it mid combat, but you still get the value, when you counter a spell or play instants in your opponents end step. Considering, that this card already has a decent card with only a single spell being cast makes this a lot more exciting than Pyre Hound. A minor upside is also, that this triggers of any noncreature spell, not just instants and sorceries. Trusted Pegasus: It will again be hard to squeeze this in, but I really like this kind of card. Wardscale Crocodile: This actually has a higher amount of total stats than Rubbleback Rhino, even though it's generally better for hexproof creatures to have higher thoughness to start with, I think this will probably make the cut for me aswell.
Edit: Lazotep Reaver: This is mostly interesting for my cube, but it's just a very good token maker and with my highly supported sacrifice theme, this will definitely make the cut for me.

Perhaps "shift towards more complex" really means "shift away from generic/vanilla commons". But they've been taking on pointless abilities to our Grizzly Bears for years..
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Mana Geode. Am I the only one using Darksteel Ingot in my commons cube? Since artifact removal is not very prevalent in this format, the geode seems like a clear (if minor) upgrade.

You might. The only 3cmc mana rock I have is Pristine Talisman, for life gain shenanigans, but I've weaned that down on that.

I run the Ingot. But I also run about 3+ Artifact kill bodies and a few others because I have powerful equipment
As a whole, if you do not need support for fringe archetypes, I think the set is the usual ho-hum. Nothing breaking it all apart. I like a 6cc Phy Rager, but tgat is like a 4cc Lifelink in Black. It is fine but better in Sealed than Aggressive draft.
I don't even think it would be great in a 45 card draft.
I cannot wait to hear how wrong I am. But, I really don't see anything knocking me over
Not that anyone here really reads these things. But most of his comments initially seem lukewarm, or passive. I had that feeling weeks ago. If you are not increasing fringe archetypes, then most of this set isn't as appealing
not that i give a damn bout this guy, but we share the same analysis that counters are only worthwhile when the cube is build around them.
but wotc seems to be the masters of manipulation since he also mentions the asTouNdInG increase in powerlevel/complexity, which has absolutely not happened.

I let all the sympathetic have their shared kool-aid.
From a purely power level discussion, I would say the boundries were really not pushed. If we argue card by card, they did allow direct planeswalker interaction, as well as Proliferate in all colors now.
But this set for Cube's sake is just putting into a glass
I don't get why you switch the Enforcer for the Harrier. In my eyes, the Harrier is way better. It taps everything, and the fact, that it needs white isn't relevant that often.
Humprey puts great value in not dying to pingers. But besides that, the amount of creatures with cmc 1 is minimal. Even if the Enforcer is not strictkly better, I think it's better most of the time.

I personally think the Enforcer is better, but time will tell because I could be wrong. I think there will be situations where you only have 1 white mana which would force you to choose between casting white cards or using the Harrier/Lawkeeper.
I mean, this set is one of the most powerful limited environments ever, and the power across the board is part of that. While our own additions for this set are limited, I think that has more to do with our different metas than anything else.
I haven't decided on final additions yet, but right now I'm still feeling around 5 cards. Enforcer seems like a lock, I like Pegasus at least as a foil Quiln, I like Aven Eternal for token/sacrifice support, and I'm kind of waiting until we see Modern Horizons for Spellgorger and Ahn-Crop. There's also a lot of stuff kind of on the cusp, but definitely worse than existing options. I don't know, this set isn't the stone nuts, but in terms of overall common design and power, I am extremely happy with this set.

Ive been wondering this myself, or if struggle to keep both.
We already have Elvish pioneer and Sakura-Tribe Scout but i dont think they're played much.

Not needed really. But I am a sucker for more Phy Ragers. Especially as it is a high curve vanilla otherwise. I may try it.

- Goldmeadow Harrier -> Law-Rune Enforcer
- Ambuscade -> Band Together
- Generator Servant -> Burning Prophet
- Oketra's Avenger -> Trusted Pegasus
- Ghoulcaller's Accomplice -> Lazotep Reaver
On a watchlist (in order of interest):
- Ahn-Crop Invader
- Callous Dismissal
- Spark Reaper
- Kronch Wrangler
- Vivien's Grizzly
- Invading Manticore What's the consensus on this one? It's been pretty good for me in it's own limited, and in our environment it's a curve topper with a good body that comes with a 2/2 attached
With the addition of Trusted Pegasus to the cube I'm also tempted to revisit Trained Condor to go alongside Heavenly Qilin, Pegasus Courser and Aerial Guide for a massive amount of fliers that grant flying. On the same note, Stitched Mangler and Master of Diversion for a critical amount of tempo tappers is also something I've been considering for a while, but all the cuts I can possibly make are archetype cards.
