our new enchantress overlord makes me want to focus on a slight enchantress/pants build in GW.
I had tried Goblins as a tribe a while back which required 3 slots for goblins "lords". With Volley Master I might reconsider Goblins as a tribe as we have a bit more support for them as a solid mono red tribe.
Our discounted clone seems like a solid test that im almost positive will yield positive results.
I like how you have to build to enable Mirror Image, but I feel like it's almost too gimmicky to be good. I'm definitely going to test it since clones make for interesting lines, but I'm a bit skeptical.
I mean, we’ve had a similar effect for a while in Miming Slime. This is probably a fair bit better, but the downsides there were pretty significant and it wasn’t even great in limited if I recall. I highly doubt this makes it, although considering I’d definitely play it at 2 CMC, maybe I shouldn’t be so certain.
I might have to start cutting from somewhere else for these two amazing new blue three drops.... even possibly three if I count the bird wizard.
Atm I am using Warfire Javelineer which is very similar to Volley Veteran, I think it is still better without strong push towards more goblins (there is more instants and sorceries than goblins). The difference in wording of the two cards is really interesting though.
I used goblin General and our two Wackers as 'Lord effects" but focused on enabling goblin recruiter shenanigans for the archetype. But any other discussion we should make another thread for.
The card that I haven't seen too much talk on that excites me a bit is Draconic Disciple. The mana fixing for any color seems really nice even if in a guild slot as my drafters always seem to have one of them try for a 4-5 color deck. Making a dragon is just gravy on top of a good fixer and means it can also slot into a RG ramp deck.
Alloy Myr is not good fixing, no. Tacking on a seven mana Dragon is certainly nice upside, but the Disciple is not a top... twenty? Gruul card unless you want the color pair to be exclusively ramp (which is hard when the other top cards are Bloodbraid Elf, Voltaic Brawler, Ghor-Clan Rampager, etc etc etc)
My heart melts from seeing the joy for the new enchanter.

I also like the diciple in principle, but there are probably just too many better options. Also, fixing once you already have two mana is a lot less valuable.
What about the black horse though? Annoying and surprising that they put color-hosing abilities again.
I mean we just had the two Knights in Dominaria, not-full-blown-Protection seems to be alive and well.
Agree that the black horse is the best of the bunch by far. When it's "off" you have a hard-to-cast Gray Ogre, but I think most of the time you'll get some good mileage out of the trigger.
I think the horses have a good deal of potential, but they’re really hard to evaluate. Blue does so much, but the color restriction and activation cost gives me pause. Green compares interestingly with Blastoderm, but that toughness is a real liability against aggro. Black’s less finicky than Minister of Pain, but messing with the mana cost is annoying and the blocking clause seems pretty dang irrelevant.

I will be testing it as part of my GUR ramp archetype (over scab-clan giant), it's like the gruul version of spring to mind which I have in simic for my other guild card for the archetype (I have two guild cards for each of my 2 and 3 colour themes (some of which overlap))
The black horse says neigh to lingering souls. Well if the tokens player fails to find an anthem quite a lot of the time plus shirking the opponents whole team before an alpha strike to give them only bad blocks is relevant. More pips is good in black because of Gary.
2/2 and 3/2 is the difference between a trade and straight dying to 2/3s which are quite common but I still feel like that extra power isn't really as big as more toughness plus that unblockable against white will be relevant.
So, Ghost Pirate anyone? 1U for a 2/2 that can only be blocked by spirits, is sacrificed if it becomes the target of a spell and can pay 3U to give another create "can only be blocked by spirits" is interesting for sure. Can't use enchantments on it, but works just fine with equipment, and making other creatures (almost) unblockable is a nice mana sink for aggressive decks.
I dig Departed Deckhand. Basically being unblockable is great and granting that ability to other creatures for an ultimately pretty reasonable cost (compare to Coralhelm Guide) is even better. As was noted in relation to Labyrinth Guardian, such a relatively small creature would pretty much die to any kill spell sent its way in CU/be anyway.
I stylistically hate the fact that the Deckhand makes you check your opponent's board of creature types every turn before you attack, but the card is definitely strong and very clearly my favorite from M19 thus far.
But, just gonna preemptively complain before someone attacks it (or another buffed creature) into a Carven Caryatid...
"More pips is good in black because of Gary."
Having one copy of Gray merchant doesn't make up for more black mana symbols being much worse in a 3 drop.
Uuuuh, Heroic Reinforcements might well make it. On an empty board, it still represents 4 haste damage but it does both the things a token deck wants at once. Me gusta.
I might even end up running Suspicious Bookcase since its effect is pretty nice if your control deck finisher lacks inbuilt evasion, and it clogs the ground pretty efficiently in the meantime.
I feel the same squirrely!

The Horse cycle is intresting but most seem weak.
nightmare's thirst seems really dope for those who play lifegain in W/B. the same goes for epicure of blood.
