So we're snowed in today, and I'm anxiously waiting for the start of Masters 25 spoilers... figured I'd channel that excitement and my extra free time into a fun little project: a bracket of some of the best candidates for a new Peasant-legal reprint!
There's 32 cards -- four of each color, plus gold and colorless, plus four extra "wild" cards. Everything is paired off by those colors, and we have five rounds of head-to-head voting.
Each vote will be up for 24 hours. Get your choices in now! Final winner will be chosen Monday afternoon, which is the first day of spoilers!
I'd settle for a cool 2 out of 32 success rate, and I'm sure we'll get other stuff from left field (not like it's really playable, but I never imagined a world where Bladewing the Risen was uncommon prior to IMA!).
Then there's first-time foils of Commander cards, silver-symbol paper version of e.g. Prophetic Bolt for people who care about that, lowering the cost of stuff like Sinkhole or Berserk... lots to look forward to!
Looks like my votes aren't working. Spinning circle of doom!
A few of those look too powered I think for a downgrade, but as you've mentioned sometimes we get surprises. Avatar of the Resolute looks silly. Dungeon Geists looks like it will function somewhat similarly to Control Magic (deny them a creature while adding one to your board) while also getting synergies from being a creature.
Slagstorm would be cool for us, but I have my doubts about them putting such an effect at uncommon in a draftable set. Wouldn't that invalidate too many creature decks?
r/mtgcube is great like that, I shared a video on the main one and it got over a thousand views in a day with only like ~10-20 upvotes. I post there quite a bit, really trying to centralize my cube and puppy picture intake into one spot, y'know?
Also, it's claustrophobia on a body, a lot further than control magic than you'd want but still pretty good.
I would imagine that, as great as call of the herd is, I would vote galepowder mage over almost everything. We don't have anything like it and it supports one of the most fun archetypes that also needs support
I voted Galepowder Mage since it is a very unique effect that's missing at Peasant and would fit nicely into my WU blink archetype. However, I was also considering the Blade Splicer. I run 4 out of the 5 Peasant splicers since they fit into multiple archetypes that I support (WU blink, WG big tokens, and WR go-wide), and Blade Splicer is far better than any of the Peasant ones so would also be a snap include.
That said, I think Blade Splicer is an extremely unlikely downshift in A25 since the Splicers were just reprinted in MM3 (with Blade Splicer at rare).

And yeah, it's what you want the most of the given choices.
Dungeon Geists would more likely be Niblis of Frost, I suppose. Which would also be sweet!

Everyone who chose Tradewind Rider over Harbinger of the Tides is a goober.
Warning: Not for the durdly-hearted!
Harbinger might be needed more, but I like the build around aspects of Tradewind more.

No idea! After I set the poll options up it just gave me the link to see it and vote, no other "admin" stuff available. I'd guess just a coin flip?

A little sad that Chimeric Mass didn't make it. I really do love that card and think it would shine in this format.
