A problem with Jace's Phantasm and Wight of Precinct Six is that they make all automill decks worse. I think that maybe I don't want them in my cube for the same reason I don't want landwalk and protection from X.

I really like Skaab too, I'd keep it. It's a monster in combat, and it can finish games by itself. I can imagine a few too many scenarios where Jhessian Thief gets stonewalled, and it doesn't have quite the finishing power of Skaab.
Abzan Battle Priest was probably too strong for pauper - a lifelink lord is very swingy. Crowned Ceratok is confirmed common though, and Lowland Giant with mass trample strikes a good balance at pauper I think.
Prey's Vengeance and Virulent Swipe both add a lot of oomph to tempo and prowess decks. Being able to remove a blocker and still have a bigger creature or more damage next turn is strong.
Jace's Phantasm is a trap, but Wight of Precinct Six could see play as a budget Goyf. I don't see it being smaller than 3/3 in the average game, but that's assuming its role as a midgame, midrange beater rather than an aggro bear. Maybe even helps the inclusion of Undergrowth Scavenger.
Lead the Stampede looks like a green Divination with upside, but mathematically I don't think it's realistic to expect you'll have enough creatures in your deck to draw 3 cards consistently.
Should Riverwheel Aerialists see play alongside Benthic Giant? I originally dismissed it since it doesn't generate value, but as pointed out, it's the biggest creature in the skies and should end games in a hurry - as long as there aren't any flying tokens or suchlike to stall it.
Riverwheel Aerialists will be going in for me. I wanted blue to have a finisher (but dislike lots of hexproof). So i was using Gearseeker serpent. But this procide the evasion without the huge mana cost.
It's possible that your buddy doesn't support that kind of blue deck strongly enough, as I've found jhessian thief to be at least average in my peasant cube.
Also, Mero, theres something to be said about the difference between being good against an archetype vs being good arbitrarily against a color. And I hate landwalk just as much as you do.
Oh he had plenty of red/blue spells to make Jhessian thief "work." I just never took it over other spells/creatures, I was also never afraid to block a "2/4" threat. And if the spell was played was a pump or burn on the same blocking creature, then i would likely have lost the creature regardless of prowess (and was fine with a 1 for 1). If it had trample to go over the head, or flying instead of prowess id be happy to take it. I just never saw this draw cards.

You are right. I've been thinking about this very thing today, and got to the same conclusion.

yeah that might be a problem. usually ur spells matters wants to play the tempogame and close the game quickly. the thief virtually deals no damage at all if any. i have to test it.
So does anyone have a full list of the cards downgraded to common in EMA? My pauper cube is kind of wonky compared to others I've seen so I often include cards others probably wouldn't.
Love me some tempo though so seeker of the way made me extremely happy.
I only play with cards with common symbol in my cube, but if you don't have that OCD trait, go for it. Cube is not a sanctioned format nor anything like that.

Phantom Tiger was already a common.
Also, masters 25 will probably have plenty more old school cards than this did.
It's a work in progress

i was thinking the same and might go back to skaab at one point. the thief is pretty strong in the spells matters and bounce archetypes though.
