I dont really like this. Vigilance is not enough of a keyword to push this over the edge. The costs are just not good enough. Makes me want badly a boggart brute with embalm.
I can tell you from running Hallowed Spiritkeeper in my unpowered that a 3/2 vigilance for 3 that gives value after it dies plays out rather nicely because you actively want to trade it off in combat. Five is a bit steep for that embalm cost, though, I'll agree.
This might be too much to hope for since so far Embalm cards have all been white, but I'm hoping to see a cheap Embalm creature with deathtouch.

Technically speaking sixth sense isn't strictly worse. While doubt it will come up all that often changing opponent to player is technically a slight improvement
It's combat damage and it gives the ability to the creature. There's no way to benefit from Sixth Sense and somehow hitting yourself in the face (Fireslinger comes to mind).

The two Embalm creatures thus far are OK. I never actually tried the similar effect dudes from SOI/EMN because they just seemed underwhelming. Maybe a 2/2 for 2 followed by a 2/2 for 3 is enough better than the 1B dude whose name I forget, but I really doubt it.
Hallowed Spiritkeeper is kind of a different world of value altogether compared to this...
Yeah, it's not a great comparison. 5 mana for a 3/2 vigilance<<<<zero mana for 1+ evasive 1/1s
Obviously Hallowed Spiritkeeper is much better, so there's a limit to the comparison. However, the idea of a 3/2 vigilance body was pooh-poohed at first glance, but it turns out that sized body matches up surprisingly well when you're actively looking to trade it off for value.
I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if I saw people cubeing the new duals.
Yeah, I got really excited about these until I saw the gold symbol.

I know people cube the KTK duals. These new lands are definitely better than those. The basic land types have fringe benefits too (Farseek, Wild Nacatl) but they're not the real reason to cube them.
I just don't understand why they're STILL favoring allied colors
looks like they're alternating every block/set now. except they're not completing the in standard cycle, but older cycles. 10 rare lands is too many for a set
Yeah they seem to want to have, in one "full" standard, i.e. right before rotation hits: 10 "slow" dual lands (i.e. lands that cannot etb untapped on turn 1, like Canopy Vista, Glacial Fortress, Temple of plenty) and 10 "fast" dual lands (i.e dual lands that can produce coloured mana on turn one like Hallowed Fountain, Shivan Reef, Port Town etc.)
These lands in Amonkhet were meant to replace some of the 10 slow lands that would have rotated with BFZ, but now things will obviously be a bit "off" since they changed the rotation-structure.
WCS 4/3 haste for 4, could possibly shrink an irrelevant 2/2 in the mid game for a 5/4 or even target a sakura tribe elder (:o). Could even reset a strangleroot geist or howlgeist. I actually like this a decent bit if you push green aggro. would not play in your winding constrictor deck tho.
At a glance, the Trials/Cartouches might be interesting, especially if you support blink or enchantress for the Trials (not sure what blinks enchantments outside of Felidar Guardian) or the Cartouches all give extra value to keep them from being 241 magnets. A compulsive for 4 that can still help you hit your land drops isn't quite playable on its own imo, but if it plays with some synergies you have it might be good.
I don't like the Trial or the Cartouche. Cartouche's effect isn't big enough to warrant a card, imo, and the blowout potential is too great I think. Drawing three and then discarding for 4 also isn't my cup of tea, especially not on an enchantment. Yes, the blink synergy is there (Flickerwisp anyone?) but synergy with one or two cards isn't enough to convince me to play one bad card. I am, however, a huge fan of the 3/2 exert guy. Think this one might be about as strong as Goblin Heelcutter, perhaps slightly weaker, since you won't be able to attack every turn with it if you want to remove blockers. However, it doesn't cost you 3 mana every turn. Certainly an interesting card. I think I might also get the new Act of Treason, replacing Blind with Anger... Not 100% sure tho. Thoughts? Oh and the token lifegiver embalm guy is cute, but perhaps too cute. EDIT: She's certainly too cute. No includes but the Minotaur thus far.

Also, not all embalm creatures will be white. The mothership article said emablm creatures become white "no matter what color they were before".

They're also rare and not a complete cycle of 10.
Like, they're about as good as the Temples, which are behind basically everything that has the option to enter untapped.
It's giving me a headache
