Ok... So for some reason, I'm getting really confused about Wastes.
Can I play Spatial Contortion off of 2 Islands? Or do I need a land that specifically produces colorless mana. I don't know why this is confusing me so much! haha
The bushwhacker is interesting. I like the effect and I like that it's at least alright if cast unsurged. Turn 3 casting a 1 drop creature and this guy seems solid.
Bdog pretend colorless mana production is another color of mana like indigo or something. That's all it is: there are no longer mana sources that tap for "generic" mana. Everything is assigned.
Also, mana costs are either <> or (X) where x is a number and can be paid by any type of mana, including colorless, but <> has to be paid by colorless only
Well, Reckless Bushwhacker will have me test it since I have been on the edge about Pyreheart Wolf in any case and it supports tokens nicely. 4 mana for Gather the Townsfolk and a surged Bushwhacker seems like a nice deal. When the best case scenario of Fateful Hour comes across, it will be memorable.
I might actually add a small package of colourless matters spells, and Spatial Contortion seems decent enough. I already like Nameless Inversion for its versatility but black has no room for it. Too bad Walker of the Wastes is too parasitic to actually work properly. Scion Summoner might be worth a look, though, since it is 3/3 for 3 over two bodies (with an upside, no less). Not optimal but green 3-drops are still pretty shallow. Then there is the good old Crumbling Vestige, of course. I agree that it does a decent enough impression of Tendo Ice Bridge for most intents and purposes in the deck that needs it the most.
Two-mana white removal is usually good enough for us to consider. Unlike Pacifism or Temporal Isolation, it's only defensive, which is pretty rough, but it's not vulnerable to things like enchantment destruction or later bouncing of the creature. I don't think I'm currently running any worse white removal, so I doubt it gets in my cube.
Our preview for today is the Allied gold uncommon cycle. Quick thoughts of mine:
Reflector Mage is very, very strong. That can be a considerable tempo advantage both early and late game PLUS it's a reasonable body. Easy replacement for Dauntless River Marshal. Mindmelter feels like it plays offense and control pretty well for a slower UB deck. I don't know how easy the colorless mana requirement will be to meet, but I like quite a bit and will definitely consider. Flayer Drone doesn't seem to present enough upside for us. Likely pass. Relentless Hunter compares OK to Ebony Treefolk, which was a little underwhelming for me in a shallower color combination. Another likely pass. Joraga Auxiliary feels a little slow for what it does. I play Sunblade Elf now and likely would not replace that with this.
Immolating Glare and Reflector Mage look great. Not interested in any of the others however. There are some great options if I ever made a cube that had a colorless focus though.
Reflecting Mage compares pretty poorly to Lyev Skyknight. Better ETB effect by a smidge, but a 2/3 grounded dude is so many miles worse than a 3/1 flyer for most decks.
I would contend it's a much better ETB effect than Skyknight. Skyknight is not going to force them to re-cast the creature you target, nor remove auras or +1/+1 counters, nor kill tokens outright. Plus there should be a fair number of situations where you lock them out of doing something significant for the following turn as well. I agree the body is better on Skyknight, but I feel comfortable with Reflector Mage over Lyev Skyknight.
Momentary Blink is easily my favorite blink spell, and I have no problems with it taking up a guild spot.
I'm not sure on a cut yet, but the Mage is very good. Bouncing their 6-drop that they just tapped out for is nuts. Plus he's such a great blink target! hehe
