This is all wonderful news!
The thief is probably better than Stealer of Secrets? The Javelin would have been cool at scry 2 or at -1 mana and instant.
We've got the whole future of magic for them to come out and print an undercosted spell with scry. Just knowing it will happen one day is enough to make me happy.
if there was a world where flamespeaker adept was cubeable i would be so happy.
i'm wondering how they're going to use scry and prowess. hopefully the use of scry won't continue like theros block where we just have infinite overcosted junk with scry 1 tacked on. prowess can be tacked onto anything as well so we'll probably get the same sort of thing happening.
I like how Can't be blocked by two or more creatures is a mechanic now. Very pleased to see that, especially because we may be able to snag a few good Menace creatures out of this set. Let's see what the uncommon Menace creatures look like. I still think the Brute is pretty solid.
Naturalists for sure. The brute is a ? for me. I really really really , did I say really?, really like Menace. I've always loved that ability in the aggressive red decks.
What are people's thoughts on the Brute? No haste.. but 3 power and hard to block gets me close to playing it.
I cut Stomphowler months ago, keeping Rec Sage / Slime / Wickerbough. I still like those three over this new guy and don't think I want a fourth effect like this at 450.
Bogart is a worse attacker than Splatter Thug but probably better overall. Though might be a different cut for it, since red needs more quality 3s.
The white 6 is huge and strong, maybe cut Feudkiller's Verdict for it? That card has been mediocre for months.
Prowess ophidian is cool-ish. Still salty Shadowmage wasn't uncommon in MMA2.

Seeing as it is a common, I think a 3/2 for 3 that has (psuedo)evasion is pretty good. Plus it's in the the creature color pairs of green and white so you could potentially be the one dictating the board states to your advantage, for an even bigger gain.
Personally if I would have liked to see maybe a 3/2 for 1RR with haste and menace.
Yeah even that would have been nice. This might be better served in the "Print this..." thread, but I would say that as a 3/2 hasty menace he's just as relevant as a 3 drop as he is as a 6 or 7 drop (for a red deck).
Will definitely be adding Jhessian Thief and Conclave Naturalists. In my list, I think Wing Splicer is a pretty easy cut for the Thief, and of course Stomphowler --> Naturalists.
Shambling Ghoul has a solid body for its cost. It's not amazing, but it's probably an okay replacement for Blind Creeper, which I've been needing to cut for a while.
The 3/2 Menace guy interests me, but I don't know if I have an easy cut for it. Blood Ogre is probably too similar to Splatter Thug, which is superior. I think I could get away with swapping the Ogre for the new Menace buddy.

My 360 Peasant+ Cube!. Modern borders where possible, usually with the newest (or "best") art, and always the most readable card text. I also run all 10 painlands. My playgroup is super casual, as we have a fair number of newer or less experienced players. Typically we draft with 4 to 6 people, using 5 packs of 9.
There are at least a half dozen cheaper cards that I'd replace in white before I'd sniff cutting the giant sorcery. That would probably put me at capacity on white high drops, but I'm perfectly happy with playing both in the same deck.
Like, serra angel is a card I respect less than the verdict and it'd be my choice for a high drop. Luckily for her, goldmeadow harrier is more unattractive. Or syndic of tithes. Attended knight (if I'm running it for some reason) white is so full of mediocrity
The prowess one is an autotest for me.
I don't understand how io says splatter thug is both better at attacking but a worse card. It doesn't die to as much removal either. The card could be okay though and is worth testing certainly.
if this is what i can expect from the initial release of cards, I am very excited. MENACE is the exact mechanic i want in my cube. I love the CANT BE BLOCKED effects and this does that to great effect.
Regarding Enthralling Victor, is a super cool effect on an uncommon card but i'll have to see how useful it would really be (as in what creatures it can snag that are super worth, like a Mother of Runes or Goldnight Commander, how does that work w/ the stack?
Conclave Naturalists, are obviously BETTER than Indrik Stomphowler, but damnit if I haven't loved that card since the day I first drafted Dissension. It has been in my cube since the beginning (and you know how i profess to suck at cutting cards) this guy has nostalgic appeal with me. I like the art. Naturalists being a "DRYAD" is a copout by WotC though, Dryad's don't mix with anything. At least they had recently created a BEAST friendly card if you were going to go tribal. O well
Splatty can attack through/into two 2/2s and shrugs off tokens
New Boggart can attack with similar but worse evasion, but also block. Though I guess a "leashed" Splatty isn't as dismal of a card as I was thinking, so... Overall back to favoring Splatty.
If Mom is untapped, you can't steal her. If you steal a commander, nothing triggers (until you get another creature to ETB). That red 4 seems fairly crappy overall. Needs to be a 2/2 with Haste or able to hit 3 power dudes.
What are people's thoughts on the Brute? No haste.. but 3 power and hard to block gets me close to playing it.
I'm pretty down on Splatter Thug so I'll be making that swap pretty happily.
I'm not currently using the Stomphowler but I'm always up for more of this effect so I guess I'll start testing the Dryad when this set comes out.
I expect if past printings are any indication, we'll see plenty of aggressively costed cards with prowess in the future (Monastery Swiftspear, Seeker of the Way - I'm not playing either but they're both cubeable). I'm mostly worried that they'll mostly use Scry as an excuse to add 2 and Scry 1 to cards that already exist though.
What's this about cutting Splatter Thug? Thug has always been great for me. It doesn't do anything fancy, but it's very often a relevant threat that isn't easily beaten in combat. As for the new cards, I'll definitely add Jhessian Thief, Conclave Naturalists, and Boggart Brute immediately, and I'm considering Sentinel of the Eternal Watch and Seismic Elemental. Also Reave Soul would be great at instant speed, modern-playable for sure.
I'm at least pleasantly surprised that they went with power rather than CMC on the Victor. Probably not gonna make a ton of difference in peasant cube (Stealing their Penumbra Spider and sacrificing it to Goblin Bombardment perhaps), but I'd half expect them to play it safe, and go with CMC. I guess it's because since it is their stuff you can't build around it.

Brute might edge out Splatter Thug. The phid might be good too? (probably not)

also in my multiplayer section Sentinel of the Eternal Watch will be an auto-include. Malakir Cullblade might find a home in the multiplayer section as well.
These seem like they will both be auto included at the VERY LEAST for testing.
