I saw in the Modern-section that someone took a list from a recent (SCG?) tournament and took it for a spin. He was pleasantly surprised about how the odd-looking Darkslick Drakes performed, but felt the deck was somewhat light on mana. Turns out there was a typo from the tournament report, and the were supposed to be Darkslick Shores.
Off-topic perhaps, but I felt it was an amusing anecdote.
On-topic, without experience with the card I believe I agree with Leelue. Paying 4 for a 2/2 is so lackluster in itself, and chumping to draw 2 isn't that much better than just Divination. When it works it is probably sweet, but like I said before I would really preferred it if it opened up for blinkbounceshenanigans. Then the potential upside could perhaps outweigh the sad moments, but as is, I don't think I'm interested. 3/1 would also make it more attractive.
Think of it kind of like Skullclamp. Trading your worst guy for 2 cards isn't a bad deal and a 2/2 flyer is a decent body. It's obviously at its best in some kind of Blood Artist deck.
2/3 with flying. That will lock down the sky against the majority of flying guys in your generic peasant cube. The card goes up in value the more you support a sacrifice archetype (I support it so I like the card, your mileage may vary).
I've only been able to play once since I added the DTK cards, but I put together a grindy B/G midrange deck in which Gravecaller performed admirably. The exploit was rarely awkward for me though I did focus on drafting quite a few exploitable creatures. A question for all of you: Anyone test Swift Warkite yet? It looks like the bee's knees but I haven't seen it in action.
It worked great the one time it showed up this past weekend. The draft was all newish and less-experienced players, so when I explained that you can sacrifice the Sorcerer to himself, it got sort of an "ohhhh, that's pretty crafty" kind of reaction. Haven't had a chance to cube too much recently aside from last weekend, but I expect this card won't be leaving anytime soon. I like his versatility.

My 360 Peasant+ Cube!. Modern borders where possible, usually with the newest (or "best") art, and always the most readable card text. I also run all 10 painlands. My playgroup is super casual, as we have a fair number of newer or less experienced players. Typically we draft with 4 to 6 people, using 5 packs of 9.
Hey I have been wondering how these are doing, so generally, are you seeing you are able to exploit something like a 1/1 token or a creature that is nullified via Temporal Isolation?
I just feel like having them in my hand and having to WAIT for there to be an opportunity is a fairly large drawback no?

Gravecaller has been fine so far for me too. The "waiting for an opportunity" factor hasn't really come up, finding a spare Sea Gate Oracle/Arbor Elf/Reassembling Skeleton/whatever hasn't been too difficult, and the absolute worst case is still a 3/6 or two 2/2s. Got quite silly with recursion engines a couple of times in testing. I'm a bit more skeptical about the Aven but I haven't seen it in action much yet.
majikan pretty much has it. It's pretty easy to have a random dude laying around. Gets way better with tokens from stuff like Imperious Perfect and Attended Knight, or stuff that likes getting sacrificed like Reassembling Skeleton.
The Aven has been pretty much the epitome of value midrange.
And yeah, I think the card is fine on its own.

I agree. I have only played with it or seen it played a few times, but everytime it has been solid.

Vulturous Aven is the money.
