I'm of the opinion that sometimes to make removal good, you have to put work into it. I find situations where I kill a nessian asp with last gasp because I had a bear sitting around to be the most rewarding part of drafting and that situation comes up often enough to be relevant when considering last grasp. True, your S.O.L. when your opponent drops a 4 toughness flyer, but you're screwed with doom blade when they drop a fallen angel. We could provide counter examples until we're blue in the face, but I think last gasp is a little better than people think and doom blade isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Currently trying to think up a way to abuse giant oyster
So far, red has the most concentrated selection of cards compared to the rest. Also, check out all the color's average votes from like ranks 1-4. Specifically red.
That's quite a dramatic drop from Lightning Bolt to Arc Lightning. 5.5 points is a significant amount. I'm sure there's some information to be pulled from it, but I just don't know what.
It probably has to do with everyone agreeing that those cards are amazing but where they rank with cards like fire imp and incinerate and keldon champion and sweepers and one drops is hard to say, because the value of tier two burn, one drops, and control only red cards is hard to place.
Did every red voter have a pet card?
and
How the asdlyfflubsfubl was staggershock not voted on by two whole people
Why did you choose that tiebreaker for jackal pup? If the variance on the votes for flame slash was higher, and they shared total voters, I would think that flame slash earning a higher placement on someone's list would be the deciding factor (eg. "But flame slash's highest placing, 12, pushed it over the top")
It was partly that I didn't want to vote for two spells that are nearly identical, and partly that I recently cut Lightning Strike from my own cube for precisely that same reason. I didn't want to have scenarios where someone would open Lightning Strike and Incinerate in the same pack and go "Well... okay." and obviously have to ship the Strike. Leelue discussed cutting Bolt at some point in another thread due to it always being the "right" pick no matter what else is in the pack. And while I can't say I ever plan on cutting the best burn spell in the game, it has made me think a bit more closely about which spells I include (and in turn, which one I vote for).

My 360 Peasant+ Cube!. Modern borders where possible, usually with the newest (or "best") art, and always the most readable card text. I also run all 10 painlands. My playgroup is super casual, as we have a fair number of newer or less experienced players. Typically we draft with 4 to 6 people, using 5 packs of 9.
Searing spear is 98% a functional reprint of incinerate which is close enough to be considered a reprint for this ranking as far as I'm concerned. If incinerate is #10, then spear is #10.5. I'd rather see another card ranked in the list. Definitely a flawed logic for this listing, but that's how I've been going about it.
Maybe you were wondering why I chose to use standard deviation? I dunno. It's just another common measurement in statistics. I could use the mode. or median.
No, I mean why did you choose that a smaller variation between voters is better than a larger one? If three people voted on card A, and they each ranked it as #10, but another card was ranked at 2, 10, and 18 on those same lists... I don't understand how you make a judgment as to which deserves the spot using this kind of variance as a metric (since one important and obvious kind, people not voting for it at all, isn't at hand here).
Chalk it up to another case of people not voting for cards that aren't in their cube?
Kind of. If I'm not using a card or even familiar with it, it's not on my list. I'm also not going to list a card on the spot just to appease the masses. Case in point, Shriekmaw is good, very good in fact, but I don't think it's the best black card in Peasant. In can't hit roughly 30% of the creatures in my cube. As for Staggershock I cut it a long time ago because paying 3 mana for 2 Shocks wasn't actually doing much.

Can you name all of the creature types with at least 20 cards? Try my Sporcle Quiz! Last Updated: 6/29/20 (Core Set 2021).
You don't have 2 creatures with 2 or less toughness in play? It wins on the spot a lot. It's like if arc trail had a baby that was flashy and obscene.
Also, it's hard for there to be more than 2 decks running black creatures at once in a standard 8 man so the % of creatures shriekmaw will hit in practice goes up from 70%. Killing dead 80+% of the competition, including virtually every fatty in the cube that is targetable is crazy. Even if it doesn't hit a black creature, they probably have a nonblack creature to kill and you sit breezy on your 3 power usually unblockable clock.
But this exercise is plagued by people having banlists for whatever reason other than "not good enough". Behemoth sledge is going to be a problem.
I find it quite funny that no person voted for Flames of the Firebrand (note: i didn't myself) but everyone and their mother voted for Arc Lightning

So everything up to red is up to date for rankings. Green will be a little behind schedule on postings; moving back onto University campus + school etc will make the postings take a few more days for me. Sorry for the delay. Go check out the results though!
Also swing by the voting thread and perhaps get a headstart (if you want) on the multicolor section.
I found green a bit odd compared to the other colors. Identifying the top cards was pretty straightforward but actually ranking them within that was more difficult. I guess the lack of removal might be a part of that; it's easier to compare like-with-like when it's e.g. Lightning Bolt vs Incinerate vs Arc Trail, or Path to Exile vs Journey to Nowhere or whatever, but green's top cards are a lot more diverse than that.
Nahh, Limited Edition Alpha up to Conspiracy is up for voting. Feel free to update your list if you want, leelue. I have a Alpha Berserk in a binder, but I'd rather be playing Giant Growth, but that's just me. I've been thinking about removing it and putting in the ... what's it called.. Mutagenic Growth. But it's not that big of a pressing issue.
I actually just haven't had enough play time with predators howl. It would've been based on pure speculation. I'd seen custodi squire in action before so I felt a little more qualified to rank it.

Jackal Pup, Flame Slash and Searing Spear all had 37 points. This pushed the number of voters (popular vote) into consideration.
Jackal Pup and Flame Slash had 5 voters while Searing Spear had 4. This put Searing Spear out of the race. So I was kinda content with just saying Flame Slash and Jackal Pup were tied. But then I was bored so I started calculating standard deviations..
A larger standard deviation means more variance between voters.
A smaller standard deviation means less variance between voters.
Jackal Pup had a standard deviation of 3.782.
Flame Slash's standard deviation was 6.309.
Jackal Pup's standard deviation < Flame Slash's standard deviation.
I mean, just a look at the 5 votes for Flame Slash:
1, 2, 6, 14, 14
compared to Jackal Pup's 5 votes:
2, 5, 9, 10, 11
Visual of Votes and Mean
Mode would be 14 and nothing for Flame Slash and Jackal Pup respectively.
Median would be 6 and 9 for Flame Slash and Jackal Pup respectively.
If anyone has any other ideas, shoot them my way.
