I'll be interested to see if Banisher Priest takes over for Fiend Hunter next year (I assume it's too recent to garner a lot of support this time around).
After comparing the 2013 ranks to 2014's ranks of white, Fiend Hunter went from 18th to 21st, and Banisher Priest found his home at 16th place.

Nothing terribly surprising in the white results. I wonder if Custodi Squire is getting a little bit of a bump since it's new and on everyone's mind, but other than that the list seems to make sense.
Oh..and very happy Harm's Way snuck in. The card won me a game last night as I redirected 2 damage from a lethal "tap out" Fireball and won on the swing back next turn.

I used to be on the fence about Custodi Squire. She's only a recent inclusion to my own cube. He's pretty cool. She's almost like a white flying Eternal Witness. She's just got a lot of value on her.
I'd guess that part of this is driven by the aversion some people have to creatures with Shadow. Similar to creatures with protection they don't lead to interactive gameplay, so some people shy away from them, myself included.
It's too bad only a couple of us use squadron hawk, because that card is awesome, and really deserved to be on here. I was also surprised I'm now the only one who really likes goldnight commander.
Preordain being replaced with Ponder is quite surprising. I mean, I'm surprised either of them were ever on a top 20 list, but even more surprising that Ponder outclassed Preordain, even if it's only by 2 points (Ponder 34, Preordain 32).
I can automate this spreadsheet to do a lot of things. Would anyone be interested in seeing who's pet cards are whos? Or is that over-excessive and useless information?
Black is up if you wanna go look at it. It's still unformatted, as I just copy and pasted the final cell in my excel spreadsheet into the forum page. It's a little sloppy looking, but you'll get the idea. I'll update it tomorrow.
I added a "On The Fence" section, which is just seeing which cards half the voters voted on (example, 10 voters total, 5 voted on specific card). Interesting that Pestilence was part of the "On The Fence" section, I thought.
Also something that caught my eye in blue was Compulsive Research and Tandem Lookout. I've known about these cards for a while but didn't know they were so popular. Anyone wanna elaborate on why? I seem to be out of the loop.
Tandem lookout is often a phyrexian rager but with immense upside. If this draws 2 or more cards you basically win. It combos and curves with a few red creatures, namely ones that say keldon.

I'm pretty sure I had Goldnight Commander on my list. Maybe not as high though. I'm disappointed that no one seems to appreciate Heavy Ballista. But Squadron Hawk is kinda silly. So people draft a single card and then they're just given more? It sounds like you're forcing a card that plays poorly with the format.

I don't understand why you're surprised that they even made it into the top 20. Drawing cards and manipulating your draws seem pretty powerful in my book.
Sorry for the double post, but Fettergeist received two votes, one from myself and the other from revengeanceful. And nobody else even put Brainstorm in their lists?! That seemed odd to me. Also, I feel like I'm really skewing the results on some of these, so I'll just reiterate that I'm not doing it on purpose.

I think we talked about Brainstorm in the one-mana cantrips/card selection thread. My take on it is that it's less consistent than any number of other options for the 1-mana blue card selection slot, so it will likely never make my list. I'd rather have any of the following than Brainstorm:
On another note, Heavy Ballista actually looks really powerful. Screwing with combat is something I should push more heavily in white to give it more of an identity, especially given how powerful Lashknife Barrier has proven to be.

Heavy Ballista has been a pet card of mine since its release in Weatherlight, and it does a lot of work in my cube. It pairs really well with Serra Advocate for combat silliness. And I totally get your point on Brainstorm, but I really like that it's an instant, too.
I'm slightly surprised I was the only voter for Terror. It really isn't that much worse than Doom Blade, which scored fairly highly. I can only assume lots of people only voted for cards in their cube (and not running Terror is fair enough, I don't cube it either, as Black has plenty of better/more "interesting" removal options. But purely from a power-level perspective, I hold that it's a legitimate top 20 card).
I don't know about top 20, but I definitely run it and pick it highly. For me though, it skims the edges of the top 20 and would probably make my top 25.

Yeah, I only voted for cards in my cube because they're the only ones I have a perspective on in my cube's environment. Terror would probably make the list if I was voting strictly based on my perception of pure power level.

I don't run either because I don't run a very powerful cube, but in the other cube I play I wouldn't pick doom blade over removal like last gasp or nameless inversion because not being able to target more than 1/5th the creatures in a cube is incredibly relevant, even if you are playing most of the black creatures in the best possible scenario (and good luck if you're splashing for removal). last gasp hits more creatures (and definitely hits the utility dorks which require you to spend removal vs the dudes that are swinging), except they can't regenerate in response when they could with doom blade, and last gasp is actually a combat trick. I don't think terror belongs in the top 20 (or anywhere close) when nameless inversion isn't included.

Nothing terribly surprising in the white results. I wonder if Custodi Squire is getting a little bit of a bump since it's new and on everyone's mind, but other than that the list seems to make sense.

Why wasn't I running this card?
Oh..and very happy Harm's Way snuck in. The card won me a game last night as I redirected 2 damage from a lethal "tap out" Fireball and won on the swing back next turn.

Update your list, my friend!I see you updated it! I'll update the list right now I got you
Another thing that surprised me is Stormfront Pegasus/Mistral Charger tied with Soltari Trooper with 5 points. Clearly they didn't make the top 20, but I guess the evasion and ability to block with Stormfront Pegasus/Mistral Charger and the inability to block/be blocked by Soltari Trooper breaks even. Interesting. I would have thought that Soltari Trooper would edge out Stormfront Pegasus/Mistral Charger, even though they were nowhere near the top 20.
I used to be on the fence about Custodi Squire. She's only a recent inclusion to my own cube. He's pretty cool. She's almost like a white flying Eternal Witness. She's just got a lot of value on her.

I'm more surprised that people are still having rampant success with counterspells.

Sorry. I also didn't vote for Swords to Plowshares or Cloudgoat Ranger. I'm not an intentional contrarian. Promise.

On another note, Heavy Ballista actually looks really powerful. Screwing with combat is something I should push more heavily in white to give it more of an identity, especially given how powerful Lashknife Barrier has proven to be.CubeTutor: www.cubetutor.com/cubeblog/72

Heavy Ballista has been a pet card of mine since its release in Weatherlight, and it does a lot of work in my cube. It pairs really well with Serra Advocate for combat silliness. And I totally get your point on Brainstorm, but I really like that it's an instant, too.
I don't know about top 20, but I definitely run it and pick it highly. For me though, it skims the edges of the top 20 and would probably make my top 25.
