So I figured we could use a thread just for these types of questions.
We have so many threads about individual cards and archetypes, but I think this is the most important thing we don't have. This comes pretty much directly from a Browndog draft report, where he ran perilous myr in an aggro deck much to my chagrin. I wondered what was missed out on instead and this would be the kind of place where we can get people's deckbuilding scrutinized.
Don't mock the Silver Knight. He's my man and I'll run him in any deck!!! hehe
Anyways, this deck is definitely lacking some power. I hate seeing Black curse in the sideboard. I almost considered splashing for it. If you had a few on color nonbasics in your pool to splash for it, I would have.
Why would Yavimaya ants have no supporters for it in this deck? I have a decent amount of removal in my white and I want to kill my opponent relatively quickly. It may be as good or better than phantom centaur in this build.
I avoided running the visionary because of the number of GG costs I have at the 4 spot. Even if, running the visionary is just another reason to run mask of memory.
Deftblade elite synergizes well with blastoderm, wildsize, master of diversion, bonesplitter, ulvenwald bear, lashknife barrier, yavimaya ants, and mask of memory. I don't understand why I wouldn't run that either.
--
Alik, why would I cut Tower above? I'm not swamped with removal and it is the end of the game with either berserk or fencing ace.
--
Safehold elite, however, is a card that I should probably be running simply because I don't have enough early game action.
yavimaya ants - my problem with this card is that in my 4 slots for green I don't want to just push through damage but I want resiliency and versatility; this card does not have either.
tower above - precombat spells are extremely inconsistent and lead to easy 2-for-1 blowouts; the only effect that I would consider is overrun
sylvan library - the deck is geared to be faster; not set up your drawstep.
hungry spriggan - card is mediocre on curve and significantly worse on the draw.
mask of memory - unless I had early evasive creatures guaranteed to push through damage I would not consider this card; this card excels best in aggro/evasive-tempo decks
deftblade elite - I see the obvious in removing your opponents best blocker, but I rather advance the board then push through the occasional 2 damage from a white based deck. — this is one of those cards that's "mediocre to good" in a board stall but, if you're stalling in white in peasant cube you're most likely falling behind so it's not something I would want to play in general.
heliod's emissary - this card has the potential to trade up in certain matchups, it can remove blockers on offense and it has late game play with the addition of bestow. "strong"
soltari visionary - 2/2 evasion for 3 is a fine rate, it's nothing special.
beast within - synergies well with safehold elite, and is a cure-all for problematic cards this deck suffers to
safehold elite - synergies well with beast within, adds to the bear count, persist allows it to be versatile on offense and defense.
I would even consider removing the barrier [this deck is not weak against splash/split removal to favor more beats in pierce strider — there isn't enough tempo support to consider justicar beyond it's first etb.
First, I'll say that G/W decks in my cube tend to focus on midrange or ramp strategies - that's partially due to having Enlisted Wurm and Trostani's Summoner in my guild section - but I do think it's one of the weaker aggro pairings.
That said, I think the deck is decent as-is and would only make a few changes if I had that pool. I'd swap out Ants and Druid Familiar against decks with a lot of instant speed removal in favor of some of the ETB 4-drops.
Cut:
Mask of Memory - not enough evasive dudes to make good use of this
Sylvan Library - another body is probably better in this particular deck; Library needs at least 2-3 scry/shuffle/draw effects to help dig and be worthwhile
Add:
Safehold Elite - bear that you're guaranteed to be able to play on T2 with additional value
One extra land (I'd do a singleton Mountain for surprise value on Nacatl, but that's just my preference) - you have too many 4-drops to go with 15 land, in my opinion
yavimaya ants - my problem with this card is that in my 4 slots for green I don't want to just push through damage but I want resiliency and versatility; this card does not have either.

That's an argument against the ants for the cube, not the deck.
Tower above: Your opponents will tap out
Sylvan library: I thought one of the arguments for this card was that in an aggro deck you can pay the 8 life and keep your foot on the gas. I don't fully understand this card, fwiw.
The elite also does a mogg fanatic impersonation. The card isn't perfect, but it can run a game when alongside the aforementioned cards and the tappers. I have shaky experience with this card, but with a supporting cast like this I have seen it greatly outperform what a 1 drop usually performs.
Since my guys aren't evasive, lashknife barrier is even more necessary than usual. The main upside isn't to keep tokens free from flames of the firebrand, the upside is to make sure you can't lose combat.
No argument from me about mask of memory though. I didn't really finish the pool, I just stopped halfway and decided to make the thread.
15 lands is definitely too low for this deck. I don't even think I'd go with 16 to be honest, but I may cheat and run 16 anyway. Or 17 in a 41 card build.
---
As much as I love arguing about my own decisions (no sarcasm at all), I did make this thread so more people can argue about their own pools. In case that wasn't clear. I will, however gladly talk more about this pool since it has been interesting so far and I would hope that any future pools get around this many responses or more.

the comment regarding ants was both pertaining to the cube itself as well as the card's function within the deck. [i believe it's a bad card and I wouldn't play it]
playing barrier to keep your creatures alive in combat I get, but not at the expense of further developing the board and trading for equal value >> playing a card like lashknife barrier does not have the same effect like sledge and/or hammer of inevitability [which we know are not the same] but just reminds us that these sort of cards require a certain timing and finesse on "when" to play these cards and not just throw them down [+equip] and say go.
you seem to value lashknife barrier relatively high from previous conversations I've seen you talk about this card — [i respect our differences//evaluations]. [my self personally, saying that playing barrier to ensure that you 'can't lose combat' seems a bit to narrow because it doesn't mean you win combat either]
I think I'm purposefully going to post a crap > mediocre draft to push this thread more. I like this one... good constructive talks as always mr. leelue.
I value lashknife barrier absurdly high.
And as one last comment, the ants have performed very well in their small sample so far. Limited in scope perhaps, but good.
I'm glad to know you like my style, alik.
I'll be sure to give you a run through of this deck as soon as I have more than a moment
41 cards now, which is reasonable with the added acceleration.
Emphasizing an early crusher or pelakka wurm and a ridiculous hour of need seems much stronger than the random midrange dorks. Neither BTE or Breath of Darigaaz seem great here. I would've liked to have one more big guy in the deck...something like a Deadwood Treefolk would've been ace. Mist Raven seems decent here to stall, reuse a random flametongue, or bounce a token of theirs (perhaps from hour of need?)

Here's a crazy pool I got from Inscho's cube (With rare attachment.) Really not sure if I built it right, but I had a ton of good stuff. http://cubetutor.com/cubedeck/135359
With that pool, I'd commit more heavily to the aggro strategy by lowering my curve and adding some more removal/reach.

In the aggro mirror, I'd side out some of the more aggressive red cards, keep Cloudgoat, and add Shrine, Spectral Procession, and some other white cards to make a more midrange deck.

i wouldn't even bother to play red at first glance [no point in sacrificing consistency to add 'minimal' power creep]other than helix and charm, I would jam all of the white and be perfectly content in playing weenie. if I'm short on playables [I haven't done a count, I'm heading out to draft :)] then I would consider cards like keldon champion and reckless charge. then work my way down into the 3 and 2CMC. no R-CMC creatures.
Yeah you could actually run a pretty decent mono-W deck with that pool - it'd certainly make the white Shrine a super bomb. I'd probably still splash Lust for War, Boros Charm, and Lightning Helix (the latter two still trigger the Shrine!) just to have lots of removal, but you could do that off of the painland plus 4-5 mountains.
Here is a U/W shell to be constructed
disclaimer: the posted deck is not my final evaluation//iteration of this pool, this is simply a departure point for discussion.
Seems like you're gonna have some mana issues, ALIK4, with that little fixing and so many UU and WW costs. I'd opt to keep white as my main color, while focusing more on blue cards with a single blue in their mana cost. I'd do the following swaps:
Into the Roil over Snap. You're not really a tempo deck, so the draw is more important than the mana savings.
Epochrasite over Frostburn Weird. This guy would love being blinked as early as Turn 3 to get a fast 4/4.
Boomerang out for anything. Take your pick of the aforementioned Wing Splicer or for Feudkiller's Verdict. The Verdict will almost certainly be an amazing game-finisher in this deck, and you have the Propaganda/Ghostly Prison to get you there.

I appreciate you addressing this to me, but all I did was pick the cards and push 23 playables into the box to submit ;). I'm much more clean when it comes to drafting and constructing a deck than this [inside chuckles]. I'll post my iteration [which is already done] after a few more people have decided what they think is best for this pool. :thumbs up:
Leelue, are you saying people are posting in this thread just to be judged?
I thought this was just to discuss what could be made from pools and advise for/against each other's choices.
Not to say you're wrong. Either way we should be trying, if nothing else to learn a mistake.
Cubetutor's not up but I made some decent changes to my list last night and want to give it a good shot and see what people think.
EDIT:: Directed to Alik's most recent UW pool, I really think Wing Splicer is too good to pass up in here. You have some good blinks, and snap can get you some value off it too. I'd play it over Ascended Lawmage (who in my opinion is better with equipment and auras than naked). With your prison effects, they will likely have a cluttered board, and finishing with flying seems to be the best option. Serra Angel alone is probably just not enough. This is assuming even minimal interaction from your opponent.
To be fair, the decklist also has an Errant Ephemeron, and a ton of bounce so you'll be able to push through damage. If both players stall up hard, save protection for Azorius Guildmage and just win off its tap ability.
@Leelue: I think it's important that players who post decklists in this thread make at least a marginal effort to make the list representative of their actual opinions. The whole point of this thread is to learn about each other's deckbuilding styles and maybe improve at making builds out of each pool, right? That's predicated on trying to make a decent deck.
