I'm looking for an archetype that for Izzet colors in my cube. The original idea was to go control but blue black lends itself to control much better than blue red can in a peasant enviroment. Counterburn is a little to bland for my tastes, you just draft as many counter spells and burn spells as you can and hope it works. I'm looking for something a bit more flavorful, something you can notice with relative ease.
Unfortunately every try hard from Sacramento to Shanghai preaches from the top of their 27 lands + Mana Reflection that Tooth and Nail and Time Stretch are fine to play in the same turn but Armageddon is unfair.
I'm not sure I agree that blue black is "much better" at control than blue red. I mean, the two archetypes share a color, so the card pool and strategy are similar. Red has some excellent control-y burn spells; for example Flame Slash, Pyroclasm, Breath of Darigaaz, Arc Trail, and many more of these riot stopper cards. Some premium izzet choices are also best suited for control, such as Electrolyze and Jilt.
Blue red and blue black control have tended to be so effective in my cube that I've cut back on support for these archetypes.
I enjoy aggro strategies, especially blue aggro, so I've tried to give Blue/x aggro support in every color. Red is a natural combination for blue aggro in many ways. Red has many cheap threats to compensate for blue's skimpy cast of creatures, and the combination of cheap reach (burn) and disruption (counterspells) has carried U/R delver strategies in many formats. In the izzet department, I'm trying out Frostburn Weird with this archetype in mind. Really, though, many izzet all-stars, like Fire // Ice and Electrolyze, work fine in an aggro deck.
Blue's creatures are far far far superior to red's. It has latch seeker,a couple of 3/1 fliers for 3, welkin tern and vaporkin, the three suspend 1U guys, Guys who draw cards when they hit, hexproof guys, inkfathom infiltrator, man o wars, Sea drake, illusory angel, and so on.
Blue is at worst the third best aggro color. Red's ability to clear blockers synergizes with blue's ability to slow the opponent down and make the most out of an empty board.

I do agree, Leelue, that blue's best aggro creatures are better than red's. There's little in red that looks better than Man-O'-War, Riftwing Cloudskate or Welkin Tern. But red, in my opinion, has more depth at the 2 and 3 drop spot. It's not uncommon for cube lists to play twice as many cmc <3 creatures in the red section as are in the blue. This is important, especially if your cube gets a decent amount of sealed play, as mine does.

Isochron Scepter is great in these colors: my cube list has Blue at #1 and Red at #2 for colors with the most eligible scepter spells.
the most efficient archetype for u/r (IMO) is aggro control. take the blue evasion creatures highly followed by the tempo sticks like aether-adept, man-o-war, followed by distributive burn, then burn, lastly counter magic and flicker effects.
archetype is solid.
in u/r I value bonesplitter and co. very highly as well as mask of memory.
I'm fairly new to cube construction (this is my first post in the cube forum!) and in my cube I made the enemy color decks a bit less obvious, but the u/r aggro deck in my cube does fantastic while still being a little glass cannon like. I just draft all the blue fliers and red enchantments and get to work. You could always highlight it using cards like magefire wings and pursuit of flight.

An alternative archetype for blue red is 'spells matter.' You can go deep on this strategy by including cards like Nivix Cyclops and Spellheart Chimera. I prefer to just give the blue red decks opportunities to gain value with cards like Young Pyromancer, Izzet Chronarch, Surreal Memoir, & cetera.
