I really want to start supporting morph in my cube. It is such a cool mechanic. I think it's still a very valuable and super entertaining mechanic to support even if your opponent can figure out what morph creature you're playing with both the color(s) you're running and the morph creatures that are in the cube.
What a letdown. I think these are the only playable morph cards...
I think you've found the reason why nobody really supports Morph these days - the cards just aren't good enough. If you had to force it into your cube, your best bets would probably be stuff like:
I'm fine with running just gathan raiders...I'm interested in it more as a colorless tool for both aggro and occasionally a reanimator deck that's low on discard outlets. It'd be great if there was some surprise, but it's pretty good without it.
I forget the last 3 cards that were in the deck. In the like 6 or 7 games I played, I played Zoetic Cavern out as a 2/2 every single time and never morphed him back up as a land. But I did play him out on turn 3 quite a few times. It allowed me to keep hands that maybe I wouldn't have been able to keep due to lack of land. I don't think I mulligan'd once. A hand with 2 land and a Zoetic Cavern was keepable. If I didn't draw up the 3rd land, Zoetic Cavern was there. If I did, Zoetic Cavern was there as a 2/2. Also, a hand with 3 land and Zoetic Cavern was keepable. I dunno. I thought about sharing that with you guys. What do you think? Zoetic Cavern was very fun. What other experiences/thoughts do you all have specifically on Zoetic Cavern?
I used to like it, but it reminds me of chartooth cougar. A land when you need one but... a bad land and an alt mode as an unplayable guy? I don't think the tradeoff for flexibility is worth it here
I have been wondering recently if the Woolly loxodon and Pine walker are better than I thought. I'm not cubing with them now, but I don't really have a proper gauge to judge big morphers by
I haven't added them because I still don't think morph translates well to cube. The thing I find most fun about morph is that you never quite know what it is, but based on your knowledge of the format, you can figure out which cards you should play around. This isn't nearly as interesting in a format where there are only seven morphs (not to mention that I'd have a big advantage over everyone else).
A few of these cards are probably strong enough to justify running on their own, even without the morph mystery.
Yeah that was pretty much my list as well. As well as Skirk Marauder being a reverse Ghitu Slinger.
I agree with Bike though. Part of what makes morph great is not knowing what is underneath and I don't know how many morph cards you would need to register that feeling. It also feels like an all or nothing scenario. I wouldn't want just one morph since it feels like it defeats the purpose. And I don't want all of them because some are just not good enough for cube by themselves. Oh well. Maybe the next morph set in 10 years will have enough to justify adding morph into my cube.
I dont have any problem with running morphs that dont need to rely on their "mystery". Out of all the morphs we have, Gathan raiders and Horde ambusher are both probably fine at just being what they are. Same with maybe nantuko vigilante. Icefeather aven interests me as a 5th option in Simic and that's about it after that I suppose.
When there is only one morph in each color, it isn't very hard to guess what a face-down creature is. I have morph creatures in my cube, but only in blue. Voidmage Apprentice, Willbender, Shaper Parasite, Fledgeling Mawcor, and Brine Elemental all require your opponent to play around them to some degree, so the threat that a blue deck could have any one of the five creates interesting choices and opportunities for bluffing and next-leveling.
If my cube played at a tempo closer to that of a real draft format, I'd probably consider doing something similar. Too bad there aren't more good morphs.
i still think we need to have some pushed morphs in the rest of the block to have a chance of them being cubeable, especially since 360s are so tight that they need to be better than so many good cards. i mean i love me some janky archetypes but it's just too hard to cut cards.

- Reya Dawnbringer // - Mistform Ultimus // - Balthor the Defiled // - Urabrask the Hidden // - Mirri, Cat Warrior
Most of these are pretty mediocre Magic cards, but they're not completely embarrassing.

There's something to be said about how you have so much advantage over your players because you know all the morphs in the cube.

Only real winner there was Icefeather Aven...
Anyone have any luck incorporating morph into their cubes?
My 540 CU/be thread
Aven is decent but only in a larger list in my opinion.

The morphs I'd likely include would be:
Willbender
Shaper Parasite
Ruthless Ripper
Horde Ambusher
Gathan Raiders
Nantuko Vigilante
Icefeather Aven
and maaaybe Zoetic Cavern
