Sure 2card combos of 2 individually strong/fine cards are cool with me. I am actually thinking about adding in ThoperSword because:
a.) Pet cards
b.) Nobody plays Esper Charm as anything other than Divination except me and 1 other person really and I want to run 1card per shard. Thopter is the most interesting and unique option
c.) I like non-creature win conditions in control decks
d.) I think sword *might* be fine on its own anyway

I write about cube and run cube drafts on magic online.
If you're looking for unique and interesting build around cards for esper, have you considered Dreams of the Dead? It fits into gy and blink strategies (because it's best at returning etb creatures) and seems slightly less narrow than Thopter Foundry. It's still pretty narrow though.

May be less narrow but is worlds worse when you get it going. ThopterSword is just busted when online. My blue decks can pretty consistently hit cards too, I am literally trying to put Gitaxian Probe and all the cycling lands in because I just love 1 mana cantrips that much.

It has become that time of year when we all must include another combo in our repertoire. Maybe not our cubes, because you don't have to, but it deserves respect.
In the same vain as Nivix Cyclops, Wee Dragonauts was just bursting in flavor and playability. Just not in practice or card advantage or being good. I was so sad but after putting in Fluxcharger, the itch for a combination of those two has been scratched. It just does everything i want those two to do and more
Other cards that have seen their days in my cube are
Viashino Heretic - I really thought this would actually be able to get rid of any artifacts. Little did i know the extra turn it took to do that would make it so unplayable.
Brutalizer Exarch- both functions substantially worse than i thought they would be for that amount of mana with a 3/3 body to boot
Delver of Secrets - How could a card that is played in legacy be such a bust? 90% of it's life it was a 1/1 in my cube. Never really thought about how unstable it would be.
Coastal Piracy - turning all of my creatures into drawing machines gave me such a value boner but in practice 4 mana for something that doesn't effect the battlefield and is often just a divination was just not meeting my expectations. The only times it would do anything was when i was already winning
Fireshrieker - double strike gives me such a double boner but the number of times this was equipped let alone useful was close to 0. The costs are just all off.
In the same vein as Fireshrieker, I recently had to cut Inquisitor's Flail from my cube because it just... was not even close to how awesome I remembered it being in Innistrad sealed+draft. One of my favorite cards in INNx3 draft, absolutely god-awful in c/ube. I was astonished and kind of upset at discovering that the (2) cmc and (2) equip cost were somehow too high to be playable, but that's just how it ended up shaking out.

My 360 Peasant+ Cube!. Modern borders where possible, usually with the newest (or "best") art, and always the most readable card text. I also run all 10 painlands. My playgroup is super casual, as we have a fair number of newer or less experienced players. Typically we draft with 4 to 6 people, using 5 packs of 9.
card seems bad for anything more than bonesplitter payments. It's not often going to be pumping more than vulshok mornongstar and you can actually put that on a grounded threat or a wall.
I keep breaking my heart with complicated incremental-advantage cards for decks slower than the format permits. Things like Civilized Scholar, Bane Alley Broker and Etherwrought Page that sound like the most fun and complicated decisions you could be making - even if it's only for the amount of text and complexity on them. Then they go last pick and do nothing except turning on maybe once out of four matches.
Even writing this and knowing better, I'm feeling tempted to shove Broker back in and give it another chance.
The "my draws from now on are better than yours" advantage is the selling point for elixir of immortality, but it is hard to tell how much that actually affects a game compared to drawing whatever other random cards you have in your deck.
Worse, you have to remember that you could have just played a better card instead of spending a card on 5 life an a spin of roulette.

I used to consider a couple of the kicker battlemages but now I don't think that any (besides thornscape) are even better than something bad like heartstabber mosquito.
I play Thornscape of course, because the card's good, but I also play Sunscape. It can get pretty costly, but I enjoy him in my 5-color decks. It's not the greatest, but he's seen enough play for me to feel okay about him.
One of the biggest busts for me lately have been the Genjus, not including the Red one (I love him in my aggro decks). I figured they'd be decent and play somewhat similar to the manlands, which have been having good success. In the end, I hated wasting a card to enable it and then having to spend mana on it again. The set up felt too long. I love the cards and the idea, but it was never an efficient game plan.
Yah! I move to make this a sticky tread for both [Peasant] and [Pauper], as well as in the main cube forum, where people can post cards that seemed awesome but failed.
It is particularly important reading for me, because if a card seems good, I am likely to go OOOOOOOO-HEHEHE-OMYGOD-THISWILLFINALLYMAKEMYDEEP SPAWNDECKWINTOURNAMENTS.
I disagreed with you on the elixir. But I love your name and avatar!
Mega Man 3 music in my ears! (If you code A6 you start with 9 E-tanks. Whooo)
Glad to find another MM fan out there! I'm still not sold on Elixir, maybe I'll swap in something like Vulshok Morningstar or just wait until we get another playable Artifact.

Ok, so I know this thread is pretty dead, but I have a nice Elixir of Immortality story. When drafting my cube with friends, one friend thought to himself: I'll just draft good control cards, and maybe I'll pick a finisher later. Once he got passed Elixir he started to grin. He ended up with counterspells, removal, two creatures (Man-o'-War and Dinrova Horror) and the Elixir. He killed and countered all his opponents creatures and activated Elixir like 5 times per game on average. After the draft I found out that the other drafters have been picking synergy cards over interaction, so all the interaction in Black and Blue ended up with the control player.
If hes able to activate it more than one or two times per game on average (never mind even 5 times), I think there's likely an issue with the drafters or the cube. Games probably shouldn't go on for *that* long, even without a large win condition.
Black drafters at the table undervalued removal spells and blue drafters at the table undervalued card advantage/selection. If you can keep control over the board and recycle all your removal and carddraw, you can do whatever you want.

Counterbalance is unplayable on its own. Top is below average but acceptable on its own. The combo is fine but unexciting.
I hatehatehatehatehate 2 card combos in cubes with very few exceptions.

Lashknife barrier + Pestilence & pyrohemia.

I don't think Riot gear is cubable. So sword of the meek isn't either.

Of course, i must also chime in and add reassembling skeleton + sac-outlets as a combo. In ascending order of power (from my perspective) Nantuko husk, Stitcher's apprentice, Carrion feeder, Mortarpod, goblin bombardment, maw of the obzedat, thoughtpicker witch.

I'd also say the //gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?output=spoiler&method=visual&action=advanced&name=+[Battlemage">&text=+[kicker]"]kicker battlemages, but those at least see pretty routine maindeck play, usually do something useful and occasionally help Crystal Shard or Phyrexian Reclamation take over games.
Worse, you have to remember that you could have just played a better card instead of spending a card on 5 life an a spin of roulette.
