Cumber stone is something I just kinda assume people aren't running. If you want an unusual answer for control decks that isn't totally dead in other matchups, it can be pretty backbreaking.
It doesn't seem like a lot of actual time, but we drafted a lot last night
I'll gradually add some tools for control until it's where I want it.
What are people's opinions on these cards? Anything stick out as broken / decent / rubbish?
I wouldn't run anything else there in my list. Triskelion has no synergy with peasant, bottle gnomes isn't as good as it used to be when combat damage stacked, pierce strider is better than peace strider, there are better ramp cards than chalice, raven's crime is a bad late game draw, narcolepsy is okay, arrest is outclassed (run the second oblivion ring over this, or prison term). Seraph of Dawn is great if aggro is a thing, otherwise there are better white cards to play. Aetherize is better in draft/sealed than in cube (cube aggro decks are aggressively costed with quality creatures 90% of the time. Chances are they will just dump their hand again on the second main).
I want the ***** out of Land Tax (especially that Judge's promo version).
I want to support prison in peasant, because **** fun. The below are cards I already run.
Triskelion has no synergy in peasant? Why you feeding oglor those lies? If you don't consider trike an uncommon that's one thing, but if you do, you should absolutely run it or at least test it out.
I run: Temporal Isolation - Great white removal spell. Instant speed, check. Low mana cost, check. Blanks the card entirely, pretty much. Land Tax - Card Advantage galore! Easily a 3-for-1, and if it triggers more than once you're so far ahead in cards. Broken synergy with Forbid, looting, retrace, landfall effects, and sacrifice-a-land effects. Blinding Beam - White reach for aggro. Tap down your opponent's two untapped dudes, and they can't untap ANY OF THEIR CREATURES next turn, giving you two free swings. Playable in control too, for buying some precious time. Narcolepsy - Blue removal spell. Great if you don't need to attack on the ground immediately, which is most blue decks. Raven's Crime - Repeated discard that can also enable reanimator. Turn 1 raven's crime on my Jetting Glasskite, turn 2 Animate Dead on it? Yes please. Chronomaton - This little guy seems so benign and underwhelming. He's a bad topdeck, sure, but so is pretty much every other one-drop. However, Chronomaton is almost always relevant throughout the game if you play him early. Got extra mana? He's getting bigger. Being walled out by an opposing dude? Beef up Chronomaton while he blocks until he gets big enough to overcome the obstacle. He's always as big as you need him to be, eventually. Everflowing Chalice - It's a mana rock or a cheap man's Thran Dynamo. It comes into play untapped, so if you drop it on T3 you'll have enough mana for removal or a counter. Perilous Myr - I love this dude. It's a colorless arc trail that can occasionally lightning bolt things. He can also carry equipment if it comes to that. If you have a way to recur him, he's a menace. If you're looking for a colorless way for Control to fight back versus Aggro, he's your man. Darksteel Sentinel - A control finisher that's colorless. Not the fastest clock and he gets walled out by things, but he stabilizes you like no tomorrow.
So yeah, I recommend all of these.
Cumber stone is not unbeatable for aggro decks unless your aggro decks are all 1 power guys.think about it this way: you paid 4 mana and nothing died. Plus it can be undone.
Plus I have 5000 posts so obviously I'm right because that matters.
Someone buy me a cake.
There are a few cards from around this time that are really interesting but then for some reason there is a colour-hose sort of "tagged on" which makes me not want the card.
The random hosing seems like a huge problem in my book.
What do people think of Spirit en-Dal? It has really struck my interest. Giving one of your guys unblockability every turn or making it so one of theirs cant block seems really good on top of having a 2/1 shadow dude. I think I am going to give it a test.
I play her. Being able to push through damage with a single high-power creature or getting in with a mob of creatures when they have one scary blocker is great. You have the versatility of choice with Spirit en-Dal. She's also a mediocre beater if it comes down to that, but hey that's pretty good on top of the ability.
I just discovered Tempting Licid and I never saw it mentioned here. What do you guys think?
It seems pretty interesting. It is a 2/2 for 3 with pseudo regenerate and it can function as a multiple turn Lure. It is like "Sacrifice a creature: creatures can't block this turn." with the added benefit that you're probably taking a creature of your opponent down with it. In a ramp deck, if you're creatures lack evasion, you can sacrifice a mana elf per turn to get the damage through, same with token strategies. Moreover, it is never a dead card being a 2/2 guy by itself.
How do people feel about Dream Fracture? Compared to Arcane Denial it is one less card for your opponent for one more mana. 3 mana for a counterspell might be too steep but at least it cantrips

I'm thinking about running Triskelion.
I don't have much support for it, but I do have Flicker for support, Curse of Predation, Contagion Clasp, and Undying Evil.
