It's possible that was me?
High school, special ed, North Carolina public school.
The kids are pretty stressed at the moment. (They have exams in two weeks.)
But it slows down quickly after that.
Then I'll try to do some travel over the summer. If I pass through NYC I'll let you know.
There is a peasant archetype thread, which is a good starting point, but it's a bit outdated. Squirrely's cube makes extensive use of enchantments and I run a control-oriented enchantment theme in Abzan. I may be forgetting other cubes here, but that's what I can think of of the top of my head.
I've got most of the updates to that thread sitting in a Word document ready to be updated May as well scour through Battlebond and add any other oddities and do a single update. I don't imagine there would be much from an enchantment perspective in the last several months since I did an update, but the recent cards that come to mind that might suit the enchantment theme are Danitha Capashen, Paragon and Valduk, Keeper of the Flame.
So, Global Series is really underpowered. As in, they have strictly worse versions of usual commons all around as terrible wastes of genuinely awesome art and card names. However, I did see some (minorly) interesting (though not very promising) cards:
Heavenly Qilin: This effect might not be good enough in Blue but in white, can it still make it on a body which itself hits for more than 1 damage? Earth-Origin Yak: Almost certainly not but the base stats seem better than what this effect has come with in the past, no? Leopard-Spotted Jiao: This is the first straightforwardly 3/1 creature for 1R, right? (Not that this makes it playable.) Fire-Omen Crane: This is no Shockmaw Dragon but then again, how often would that get more than a single creature? Being a 5-drop still means at least something.
I could kind of see Heavenly Qilin working out alright, given how good Pegasus Courser is in Dominaria Draft in the right deck. I'm not even sure I would want it to lose the third toughness for another point of damage though.
I dont get to play much anymore, but a friend said he was coming over today to get matches in.
I spent 13 hours (1am-2pm) working on cube stuff, then he cancelled on me.
Man... Getting older sucks
I feel you, man. My group and I went from cubing about once or twice a month last year to only about three times total this whole year so far. People just have different priorities. It kind of sucks.
I have a decklist on cubetutor for a black and white rare-invlusive cube that I've wanted to build, but there's no way I'm dropping 1,500 on this thing if I can't expect to use it
I have tried repeatedly to get 6-8 people together for a cube and herding Uni students is like herding cats, I give them two weeks.
Two weeks ago "Hey guys, lets cube this day, tell me if this is the best day and I could change it"
Fast foward to the day.
"Err sorry too many assignments"
"I can't go I have a D&D campaign that day"
"Oh yeah I forgot"
*sleeps ins* (sleeps in when its at night)
"So yeah I told my friend i'd get him dinner so I have to go and can't cube tonight"
Argh! people! can't commit to things, things that are hard to organise, I hate organising things for this exact reason. So much time and effort put into these things for nothing.
I am not actually at uni any more but its a large pool of people that might be willing to cube, that I at least sort of know, but its not like I am just hanging around uni any more waiting for 8 people to turn up so I can convince them to cube. When I was at uni there was no way I could transport my cube on the bus and train.
The problem with playing at my LGS is that, well there are store events going on, seems like I'd be hijacking some other event... maybe its just my anixeity talking though and I'd just have to plan it at a random time away from the events I normally attend. Both my LGS and my house are away from the central city, while my Uni is near the centre (and well connected with public transport).
I've certainly noticed as I've been getting older that cubes are harder to make happen. I've almost been absent from posting on the forum for a month or two now, which I actually kind of regret, since I have a lot to add since I've been cubing so long.
I still get cubes in. I'd say about 1-2 a month at this point. I remember in my prime I was getting 1-2 a week. Times change. I moved into my new apartment, so things got busy. When my wife and I decide to have kids, I'm sure that'll muddle it up even more.
I still try to stay up to date and cube when I can since I really am passionate about it and love it a great deal. It's certainly a hobby of mine that I hope I can always make time for.
I'm going to try to be a bit more active on this forum since I feel like I have a lot to add (not just a love for Bloodhunter Bat), especially to the new players, considering I have over 300+ cubes under my belt.
Get the wife to play. My wife and crack open 6 packs of 15 when we're bored on the weekend. I guess I was lucky that when we started dating like 12 years ago, she already played magic and was more into it than I.
It's surprising how many people here *dont* cube at least once a week. I thought you all played as much as I did. How do you all formulate opinions about cards without ever playing/testing them yourselves?
I could count the number of 8 man cubes I've played on one hand, and the number of times I've drafted it in the last year on one finger.
The only people I've been able to find that play magic in this part of the state are (bad) commander players who get pissy when I ask them to follow the rules.
