I wont add any Modo-only commons to my cube, at least not before modo-pauper allows paper-only commons like hymn. As is, those are two different systems for me.
Agreed. If you're playing both Hymn and Phantom Monster in your cube, your cube is simply not Pauper.
That said, I can respect people wanting to stick with just paper commons. For me, however, if a card was made Common by Wizards at any point, in any form, it's all good.
Man, I dunno how I feel about putting MODO Commons in my cube - I'm with Metalevolence on this too, I don't like having the little Silver set symbol amongst all my Commons
Honestly though, this set is going to be insane for Pauper online too I think, if any of those cards are going to be Pauper legal.
I agree I don't like having the set symbol disparity but I got over it for the sake of having foils of Pyrotechnics and Crypt Rats that don't exist in black symbol foils... I'll probably get past it for the sake of casting Battle Screech which seems so so good. And hey, no one is going to know Nightstalker was uncommon in Portal!
(I'm talking myself into it)
Crypt Rats has a common printing, it was in Visions - that's what I use.

I will always stick to paper commons.
I'm not running Phantom, but Hymn WAS printed as a common in Fallen Empires. So, it is Pauper.
The point Izor was making is that Hymn was never made as a Common online, while Phantom Monster was. Thus, anyone using both in their cube is being inconsistent with his view of what constitutes Pauper (only cards printed at Common are allowed).

I think you missed the word "foil" in there
I chose to just not foil those cards rather than use uncommon printed foils. But the only reason I foiled (mostly) my cube was as a joke that has gone way too far so whatever

Elephant Guide has a new artwork and most cards that got new art were printed soon after, be it in a PW duel deck or some other special set. I think we will see it soon.
Drafted a deck with predatory nightstalker in it tonight, and he was solid, exactly as expected. It was a controlling deck with lots of card advantage in the form of creature recursion, which is probably the best home for him. Went 3-0, beating UR control, mono white and mono green. It was not a particularly amazing deck, but I guess it was good enough.
Crypt rats and pestilence were underwhelming. It seems like they are often too slow, and the life loss too painful, against decks where you will kill multiple creatures. And they were bad against mono green when their guys were just too big. I lost a game to a wickerbough elder with leafcrown dryad on it, with pestilence on board.
Not 100% Confirmed but it seems as Kor Chant is getting a reprint at common in Conspiracy. It was name-dropped in Sam Stoddard's most recent Latest Devolpments article.
This is big news since Conspiracy contains foils! (At least I think it does!). Which is sweet since Kor Chant hasn't ever been foil until now.
As I run cards based on whether the card can be foil or not(So close to 100% Foil including lands) that means Kor Chant could maybe find it's way back into my cube
Yeah whydirt got it right, I've even had Kor Chant in my cube, but since I'm close to 100% foil I took it out.
But now that it's getting a Modern Border foil it's going to find it's way back in.
Maybe it's just me, but I've found Kor Chant to be less and less good over the last couple of years. Right now I'm trying out other lower-cost combat tricks in its place.
Some of the conspiracies are common. Obviously the commons are weaker than the rares, but since they don't go in your deck they are 100% gravy even if you only get a weak effect out of it. Winner seems to me to be Secrets of Paradise. It makes *any* one-drop into a birds of paradise. So as long as you have any one-drop you're basically guaranteed free ramp.
Custodi Squire seems rather good in pauper. It basically retrieves any artifact, creature or enchantment of your choice (in 1v1 your opponent will always vote teh same as you, or else you get *two* cards back).
I would assume he meant second behind Guardian of the Guildpact and I would agree with that. I think this card is significantly better than Seraph of Dawn. This thing is Gravedigger on performance enhancing drugs for just one more mana. It's a 3/3 flier, will always get back a relevant card, and is splashable.
Standard Bearer is usually just a small hindrance to remove via pingers or small effects. It's annoying sometimes, but not dirsruptive like Coalition Honor Guard, which soaks up most of the good removal and still lives on. That said, you can treat Standard Bearer almost like a "Seal of Willbender" to protect an important creature for a turn (though I like Benevolent Bodyguard more for that effect).
My thoughts on Conspiracy Reprints: Brainstorm
I wish this was the mirage art but oh well, always a nice reprint. Kor Chant
Sick new art, love it in the modern frame with flavour text. Basic Land cyclers
I will be replacing all of mine with the foil conspiracy reprints. Most notably this is the first time for chartooth getting a foil(with the DD art). Rarity Shifted Charging Rhino
Pretty damn solid, but I'm not sure there is something worth cutting, still mulling this one over. Pretty terrifying with a morningstar equipped. Elvish Aberration
I think this guy is really strong and should definately make it into some cubes. In my cube I can't really see playing this guy and Krosan Tusker, and I wouldn't cut Tusker for it. WakeDancer
~4/4 for 3 is awesome, morbid isn't too hard to trigger, I'm very excited to see if this works out as well as it looks. The new stuff
Dethrone
Abilities that help you catch up from behind in limited tend to be really awesome, but these guys are all situational, and mostly crummy topdecks late. Emissary seems like a decent but totally unexciting finisher.
Cogwork Librarian
I feel like this guy is a staple. He does so much work. Been cubing him since he was spoiled. Cogwork Spy
Seems pretty marginal, but wind drake is almost never bad in limited. Custodi Squire
Staple this guy to the cube. Guardian>Custodi Squire>Fetters>Honor Guard Lurking Automaton
I think this guy is great, he should always be a 5/5,6/6, or 7/7 for 5. Whispergear Sneak
I really really really like this guy. But when it comes to cube a 1/1 for 1 isn't at all playable, and so I don't think the effect is worth a slot. The Conspiracies
I feel as though all of these are cubable. However, finding space for them seems hard. I'm still on the fence as whether or not to "maindeck" them in the cube or just have an extra set. These are also the only cards I think breaking the multiples rule might be worth it for. Brago's favor
Super great with flashback/buyback/fatties Immediate action
Good on most creatures, especially fatties. Secrets of paradise
Solid all around. Muzzio's Preparations
Probably the weakest one. It does combo though. Sentinel dispatch
Unexciting but very solid.
For sure going in:
Cogwork Librarian
Lurking automaton
Custodi Squire
Wake Dancer
Anyway. I think you are overestimating wakedancer. Being able to trigger morbid is not in the least bit reliable, especially if you're hoping to cast her on curve.

Luckily for me, I don't run Hymn to Tourach (since nobody liked it, no matter which side of casting it they were on) which makes these online Commons fair game. Now I'll get to put Elephant Guide on Hunting Cheetah and discard Arrogant Wurm to Waterfront Bouncer to bounce their blocker! Whee!
That said, I can respect people wanting to stick with just paper commons. For me, however, if a card was made Common by Wizards at any point, in any form, it's all good.

Pyrotechnics I use the Legends print since the symbol is black, even though the art leaves something to be desired.

If the black colorshifted one in Planar Chaos was reprinted as common that would be awesome.

Amirite?
I don't know about second best ... I'd probably rank at least Seraph of Dawn, Guardian of the Guildpact, and Coalition Honor Guard over it. But it's certainly a fantastic card, and I can't wait to get a copy.
