What's up! After taking last week off, we got back together for a 5-man draft last night. The decks were: GW tokens (me), Izzet spells, Orzhov midrange, 4-color zoo, and... the winner below!
Nothing from the Grixis deck was able to join Breath of Darigaaz with three wins, so it's still our clear leader! Six of the Grixis cards join the giant tie at two wins each, though:
Ah the good old double Mind Control. Solid looking deck for Rise from the Tides, love having the mana rocks in that type of list.
First time seeing Tides in a deck (only after 10 or so drafts). All the blue cantrips went to the Izzet drafter, but there was enough crazy value plays at 4-5 mana (and a general dearth of aggro in opposing decks) that it still worked beautifully.
Though, amusingly, I had just added Razaketh's Rite (among other HOU cards) to the cube before the draft, with Tides very specifically in mind... it was in that player's pool, but never left the sideboard.

Yeah, I did the same with Rise from the Tides and Worm Harvest in mind as well. When test drafting the cube, not once did I feel like Razaketh's Rite was even close to being good enough to add to a deck, so I just removed it yesterday.
Huh, Razaketh's Rite was a card I'd forgotten about from spoiler season. Eh. I think I'd rather just play draw spells instead of a 5-mana tutor.
How has Worm Harvest been? Not sure how well my cube dumps lands into the yard.

I assume you are asking me since _i0 does not seem to run Worm Harvest. It is a really fun archetype that can be supported by a surprising variety of colour combinations. Worm Harvest is one of the more inevitable win conditions there are if you manage to get it going without having already been pushed to a corner.
I don't really have high hopes for Rite, but I think it's worth it in a deck with one or two super important pieces, a la Rise from the Tides.
Also, the cube is up to 600 now! It was almost physically painful to find the last few white and red cards (looking at things I already own, there's a few other/better candidates I have in mind for next time I place a card order )
Hey! Low attendance again for cube night yesterday, but we did a three-player Winston draft then a head-to-head Winston Not my favorite way of playing, but still plenty of fun!
First, the 2-0 Sultai deck from the three-player session:
Neither deck would really hold up to an average 6-person draft's deck -- especially the Esper one, in which I literally couldn't build a 2-color deck at the end of drafting But still enjoyable... will probably try a Grid draft next time we have just a group of two or three!
Power Rankings update
Counting both the Winston winners (which is kinda iffy, but heck I'm gonna do it!)... the leader is still Breath of Darigaaz?!? Nothing from last night's two winners was previously on the two-wins list, so, yeah. Still Breath, which has won three of the eight drafts, then a 31-way tie behind it among cards with two wins each.
With forty cards added to the big compiled decklist, we now have a few challengers to Breath of Darigaaz at #1 -- it's currently a three-way tie between the Breath, Reclamation Sage, Kor Sanctifiers, and Arcance Sanctum with three wins each.
Meanwhile, one combined win for FTK/Shriekmaw/Skinrender... go figure
So many questions...why 61 cards? Why only 22 lands? Why 3 color with only 3 pieces of fixing? Where's the worldknit?!
But seriously, this is a great example of why magic is a great game. Conventional wisdom tells us that deck should not go 3-0, and yet the results speak for themselves. (Even though you should probably pull them aside and explain some limited concepts next time lol)
The three new drafters made 40, 50, and 61-card decks. They were a group of kitchen-table players with some pretty weird ideas about Magic; the 3-0 deck finished the night with a lethal Pestilence activation, and there was some big kerfluffle (in good spirits) because apparently one of the dominant decks in their kitchen table meta is also a Pestilence deck and one of them had apparently said (before coming to the LGS) "oh we can draft and get away from Pestilence for tonight!"
None of them had heard of the scry-after-a-mulligan rule. They all wanted to 'mana weave' before shuffling. The 61-card player was absolutely ecstatic that he was playing with a signed Legends copy of Fallen Angel.
Another small turnout, unfortunately, so we ran back the Winston draft. And I once again went with a heavy emphasis on nonbasic lands, and was able to go 2-0 thanks to a timely Pelakka Wurm lifting me up from one life against an aggressive Izzet opponent!
Another slight disappointment at the weekly cube event, with just three drafters meaning another Winston format. But the night did provide a sweet 2-0 Azorius deck, which took down two kinda trainwreck-y three color piles
Took one week away from our ongoing event, but got it back last night Another small crowd of just three drafters, but we had time for a grid draft which was SUPER fun!
I was the lucky 2-0 player, with a very solid almost mono-white tokens deck:
1x Murderous Redcap
1x Skinrender
1x Gray Merchant of Asphodel
1x Jetting Glasskite
1x Dark Hatchling
