It's been about a month since the last cube!!! Rough days. I was going through withdrawals, but as you know, life sometimes gets in the way. I've been super busy.
However, I was able to fire off a 4-man last night, satisfying the Cubing itch.
I ended up drafting U/B Control, and we also had Boros aggro, G/B/u, and Mardu.
I won Match 1 against Mardu, relying heavily on my Falkenrath Noble against my opponent's tokens. Undying Evil on the Noble poured salt in the wound.
The finals was between me and the Boros deck and it wasn't close. I got smoked 2-0. He came out too fast. Game 1 he Turn 1'd a Village Messenger, on the draw even, and flipped it... Then just kept curving out into aggressive creatures. I couldn't keep up. Game 2 was another quick one. Came out of the gates too fast and whooped me. Ha!
I'm a little curious what other cards could've taken the spot from Ainok Bond-Kin. There's literally no other way for that deck to make +1/+1 counters, right?
The decks were: Junk (me), Jeskai, Rakdos, Orzhov, Selesnya, and Dimir.
Round 1 I played the Jeskai deck. I rode the value train all the way to a 2-0 victory, as I continually grinded out the games with cards like Lingering Souls, Temur Sabertooth combined with Shriekmaw (bouncing with sac trigger on the stack), and Custodi Squire. The deck was absurd.
Round 2 I played the Dimir deck, who was able to 2-0 me this time, as I couldn't get my value train going as fast as I wanted to. He just beat me down with Welkin Tern and Vaporkin..... sometimes those 2/1 fliers get you... haha.
The finals was between the Dimir deck and the Rakdos aggro deck (only playing 13 lands... )
The Rakdos deck got there though, with a Demonic Tutor for Stoke the Flames, into a tapped out opponent. He tapped his creatures instead of his lands, and had 1 open mana.... Opponent reveals Daze... well played... (He saw it Game 1, but still a cool play).
Here's the winner (as much as I hate 13 lands... it worked for him... haha):
Hey everybody! We got a 5-man cube draft on Monday!
It was 2 rounds since the pair down lost. (That's how I like to run my drafts... instead of doing 3 rounds and having weird things happen with breakers.)
The decks were: U/B (me), Izzet, Mardu tokens, 5-color, and Simic aggro (yeah... very pumped to see that one).
My deck was absolutely absurd, and I ended up winning the draft 3-0.
In the finals I played against the Simic aggro deck and lived the dream. Turn 4 Murderous Redcap killing one of his creatures, and then turn 5 saccing the Redcap to Emerge Abundant Maw, killing his x/1 creature with the Persisted Redcap.
It wasn't close!
I added all the Eldritch cards into the pool. I was able to get Curious Homunculus (who was great), Abundant Maw (was good when I casted it to live the dream.. however, I played some decent 2/3 drops which would have made it solid), and Wretched Gryff (didn't see it once).
We were able to get the coveted 8-man draft on Monday night!
Logistically it was a bit of a nightmare, since we had one of the winners of Round 1 drop, since he had an emergency he had to attend to and had to leave. This messed things up quite a bit, since after the final round we were left with a bunch of 2-1s, since the only 2-0 left lost his last round.
So we had a bunch of 2-1s at the end. The guy who went Round 1 loss, Round 2 Bye, Round 3 win against the only 2-0 left won the draft.
So take this deck with a grain of salt, since we had a bunch of decks sitting with the same record, but technically, this deck won the draft. Perhaps next time, we won't have an emergency!!!
Cool side note: The store we played at was able to sanction this draft!
Let's get the OMG SOMEONE PLAYED 18 LANDS IN YOUR GROUP, and lol@Bloodhunter out of the way first ;). (All jokes aside, I think it's great that you guys keep getting succes with Bloodhunter. Shows that unusual card choices have merit, which is what makes cube great)
Good to see Smoldering Werewolf doing well the last drafts for you. I was wondering, how have you been liking Weaver of Lightning and Wretched Gryff?
I'm sorry! I just saw you're post.
I don't have much experience yet with the Weaver, but I've played the Gryff a few times and have liked it. It's relatively easy to cast for cheap.
Season 6 (Draft #19 of 24):Crumbling Necropolis gets its 5th win, joining the tie for 3rd.

Has anyone played with Ongoing Investigation? I added this card last night before the draft, and ended up drafting it. It was insanity. I generated sooo much value of it. It almost felt overbearing. It's insane since you can investigate off the 2nd abiliity... and do it more than once in 1 turn. It just felt raunchy... almost ban-worthy raunchy. Granted, it was only 1 draft, but it felt absurd. Perhaps I just used it correctly in the right deck? Anyways, it's a great, great card and I'm excited to test it further. I will keep my eye on it though.
Thoughts on Ancient Tomb? I recently added it to my cube, and everyone I've talked to about it is convinced that it's too strong relative to everything else in the cube. I had it in my deck on Saturday, and while it wasn't insane for me, I never drew it early to have a chance to make it insane.

It's been far from "insane" on a consistent basis. There are moments where it can generate some speedy starts, but I never feel like I've lost if someone plays it turn 1.. unlike someone playing .. say.. a Library of Alexandria. It's strong, but not oppressive... in my experience at least. Plus, I've found the life loss can be a liability at times, which can keep the card in check.
A few people from my playgroup think ancient tomb is way out of league with other cards. Also Sylvan Library.
Any Kaladesh updates for this cube coming soon? Me and my friends love playing your list.
I think it can be very good, but it's not overwhelming. I'm surprised to hear that about Sylvan Library. It's a strong card, but without the shuffle effects to really take advantage of it, I find it hard to believe that it's doing some SERIOUS work. I like the card and will continue to cube with it, but I don't think it really shines in Peasant, especially since we lack the fetches.
As for Kaladesh, I cubed on Monday night with all 19 cards added in. I'm just about to post my cube results from Monday, so I'll include my Kaladesh update as well.
Plus it's great to hear that you play my list and enjoy it!
