i don't know that i've seen a mono colored deck drafted using our cube... granted i don't think we've ever had more than four people drafting at a time. :/
i'd rather have either of the two cards i put in than crag puca. he's too hard to cast when not in u/r and not always the type of creature you want when you are in u/r. and to be honest about call the skybreaker when my group first saw that card, we were all like, "whaaaat?? that's nuts! make a 5/5 evasion creature and it's got repeatable flashback? sign me up!" seriously, i think one of us cracked the pack w/ that as the rare and it immediately went in the cube. but i'm pretty sure the card only made a second 5/5 once in any game. seven mana ends up being a lot (it's more like eight the second time around). if i've got that kind of mana in u/r i can just as easily burn their face or hold back for the suffocating blast. blast can be a total blowout. i love 2-for-1 spells. not only did i just counter your game winning play, but i killed your elephant while i was at it. i really feel that both of those are better choices for u/r... at least for now, until we see what arb brings us.
the random panorama came out because we're trying to eliminate them by adding in ten mono colored nonbasics and the five mirage fetches. i added in the g/w fetch so i took out a g/w panorama.
also, i took out viridian zealot for wickerbough elder. i don't think we had room for both, and honestly i just like elder better.
scroll rack is the absolute nuttiest card ever. if this is not in your cube... put it there asap.
we also discussed ARB inclusions and replacements and after mulling over the set and the "good stuff", here's what we feel is worthy of inclusion and what we'll probably take out for it.
we really like all the charms from shards, but i think a permanently pumpable angel and a better than teferi (in the right colors, that is) are both better than their respective charms.
we haven't gotten to play much w/ invoke the firemind yet, but as (i think) wermine stated earlier... invoke is the worst of the X damage spells, and it's only good as a draw spell in the super late game when you can tap out and refill your hand. the dragon seems good. it lets me loot for just attacking (that's good enough for me), plus i get the option of pumping him w/ my discard. i'll take it!
the cobra was originally set aside to be replaced by apocalypse hydra. now this isn't to say that hydra won't eventually make it's way in. i really want to try that guy out. but the elf just seems to do what r/g does best.
I just wanted to throw in my two cents. For one, I always liked Contagion. It has been good removal and it is almost never a dead card (late in the game when you can't pitch you can hardcast). That card has won me games when another removal spell like Terminate, Slaughter Pact, etc, wouldn't have been as good.
Also, I like Volcanic Hammer. I think 2 mana for 3 damage is good, even if it is a sorcery. Although! There is burn in our cube we are missing, like Chain Lightning, and I guess I could see us cutting it if we had more optimal burn.

I like all the changes (other than cutting the Viridian Zealot and the Bottle Gnomes... I really like those cards, and would've found something else to cut in their place).
I just wanted to put in my $0.02 abut Suffocating Blast. I think the card is amazing and I definitely would not cut it from your cube. Even with the casting boundaries, I've never held this spell because I've been unable to cast it. I've always had an [opponent's] target for it, and it 2-for-1's MOST of the time. Outstanding. I do agree with Wermine that Invoke the Firemind is bad; horrible even... and I'm glad to see you cut it for the new dragon.

i like both these spells too. but i can't think of anything in our black that contagion is better than. and mostly we're just testing hammer of bogardan to see if it's what it should be. if bogardan proves to just sit in the yard and rarely be recurred, then we'll probably go back to volcanic. we're also not running chain lightning, but it's on the list for inclusion.

i totally agree w/ viridian zealot. it was hard to take him out. feel free to browse our list and find something significantly worse than zealot and i'll put zealot back in. wickerbough elder is really really good though. bottle gnomes, on the other hand, mostly just sat in sideboards. it's a fine creature and i've been playing it both maindeck and sideboard in constructed magic for years. but in cube, it's just not as good. for the most part, i'd rather have something else in that slot. our choices there were either bottle gnomes or scuttlemutt, and we just felt that at least the scuttlemutt could serve as a mana fixer.
i too am excited to try out the new dragon... when we get one, that is.
I agree with all your adds and all your cuts except for Viridian Zealot and Trip Noose doesn't look that bad (you added worse cards). I'll also add that Lorescale Coatl doesn't excite me at all though it's still better than Gaea's Skyfolk.
Cut the Mirri, Cat Warrior instead of the Viridian Zealot. In aggro... I'd rather have the Zealot. In mid-range or control? ...I'd still rather have the Zealot.

i took out trip noose and added in scroll rack. i took out yet another creature tapper (which isn't horrible, don't get me wrong) and added in a card that can let me control my draw step in ways that no other card (excpet top) in magic can do. i fail to see how scroll rack is worse than trip noose.
wickerbough elder is more splashable then viridian zealot since it only costs one green compared to zealot's gg. it's two more cmc, but it comes down as a 3/3 and becomes a 4/4 after disenchanting. that's nice when a blocker is needed or when i need a creature to apply some serious pressure. the zealot, on the other hand, is more vulnerable to any burn spell, doesn't survive any sort of combat, and has to sac himself in order to disenchant. i'd say all of those are good reasons why elder is better than zealot. i'm not saying that zealot is bad and i do agree that it should probably go back in, but i definitely don't agree that it's the better card when compared to wickerbough elder.
Cut the Mirri, Cat Warrior instead of the Viridian Zealot. In aggro... I'd rather have the Zealot. In mid-range or control? ...I'd still rather have the Zealot.
this was actually the card i figured you would suggest. and sadly enough, i think i agree. it will be tough for me to remove mirri. i've really loved that card ever since i pulled my first one from a pack so long ago. but it's for the greater good of the cube, so i think it's her time to step up to the chopping block... so to speak.
I didn't compare each card only for the card you took out. For example, Trip Noose seems waaaay better than Lorescale Coatl. Yes they compete on different slots but it's better than some of the cards you added; not specifically Scroll Rack. I'd expect any cube that plays that many multicolored cards to also play more artifacts respectively so Trip Noose is good enough.
wickerbough elder is more splashable then viridian zealot
Use both. Again, don't compare the cards in the narrow scope of one card vs. one card without looking at your other green cards (and other cards in your cube in general). I also think Zealot > Mirri, good suggestion wtwlf.

i don't even see trip noose as being better than lorescale coatl. trip noose is at best a good draft card and a decent cube card. regardless, there's no point in comparing the two because they compete for two very different slots. it doesn't even remotely begin to make sense to say what went in was worse than what came out when you're comparing two totally different cards from two totally different sections of the cube. so even if i agreed w/ you and thought that trip noose was better than lorescale coatl, it wouldn't matter because the artifact section has absolutely zero impact on the multicolor section. sylvan library is better than blade of the sixth pride (arguably), but that doesn't mean i'm going to make my white section smaller than my green to add in library. so the only cards that sylvan library would need comparing to would be green cards; specifically those that only have green mana symbols in their mana cost and more specifically those that aren't creatures.
Journeyer's Kite is really good and generally underrated.
It creates card advantage, deck thinning and fixes the splashcolors as well.
It's a welcome addition in any controldeck and most midrange decks.
it's not that i hate the card, i just don't think it's as good as the rest of the stuff in my artifact section.
aether spellbomb gives me tempo and card advantage. i think it's right on par with what it takes to make a cube worth artifact.
journeyer's kite is amazing. it thins my decks and keeps me in land drops. it does a lot more for me than trip noose ever would.
moonglove extract is colorless removal that any deck can run, but so is the trip noose. this one may be a toss up and worth mentioning next time i see my group.
serrated arrows is again, colorless removal.
scuttlemutt is a sub par card all around, but number one it's an artifact creature and so i didn't really compare it to anything in that section, and secondly it's a mana fixer and we like mana fixers. this is one that should eventually come out for something better, we just haven't gotten those cards yet.
quietus spike is an equipment, so again, i didn't compare that section. but if i had to i don't think spike is worse than trip noose on any level. that card wins games. i'll equip it to my 2/2 flyer and swing. you take two and then lose half your life, so you go to 18 and then you go to 9. assuming you don't have an answer for my dude or my equipment, i swing again next turn and you go to 7 and then you go to 3. i just hit you for 17 in two turns. how is that bad?

How does it create card advantage? It's just a Seal of Removal with the option to cycle itself and +1 to it's cost.

Except for keeping you alive long enough to win with that card advantage.

You don't compare anything to what you have cut except for what you decided to replace it with. Both are artifacts and I'm pretty sure I would take Trip Noose higher than Scuttlemutt in each deck I draft (I don't like to rely on creatures for fixing as they are too unreliable, and for ramp he's slow and expensive).

Because it does nothing if you cannot break through, it doesn't even make your creature bigger so they can attack and kill a creature (merely trade usually) and it costs a lot. Would you pack it over a burn spell? I wouldn't. Also, if it's relevant, the tapper destroys it.

In control deck I'll definitely prefer the tapper anyway. In ramp decks I'm not so sure.

as i said, if i'm replacing something in my cube i look to that section of the cube to find something that i feel is worse than the card i want to put in. in the case of colored cards, if i'm putting in a spell i go to the spells of that color. if it's a creature, i look to the creatures. in the case of artifacts, though, there are utility artifacts, mana artifacts, artifact creatures, equipment, and removal. i'm not above removing artifact for artifact, but if i can i try to remove equipment for equipment, or mana artifact for mana artifact, etc. and so when i had to put in scroll roll i looked at the utility artifacts. trip noose looked to be the worst card in those slots and so it got the cut.

saying it's bad because it does nothing if you can't get damage through is like saying jitte is bad and we all know that is not the case at all. it's more expensive than jitte, but even w/ no mana accel i can still have it equipped and active as early as turn four. i'm not saying it's as good as jitte, i'm just comparing your reasoning behind saying it's bad.
would i carry it over a burn spell? maybe. it's situational really and dependant on what my draft pool looks like. i'd prefer to pack it alongside those burn spells and hopefully i've got a lot of evasive creatures to boot.
I agree the Quietus Spike is a little subpar.
It's just too expensive according to it's effect - look at Loxodon Warhammer at excactly the same cost.
6 mana is a huge investment, and if you play turn 2 creature, turn 3 spike, turn 4 equip, you are setting yourself up to a quick loss.
With Jitte you don't care if the creature is blocked, and it works on the defense.
so compare it to something like sofi. obviously that's one of the best cards in the cube and i'm not saying spike is anywhere near as good because it's not. but in order to take full advantage of sofi, you have to push damage through. granted, the sword gives a p/t boost, but it's the ability that makes it shine. if it were just an equipment that gives a p/t boost it might as well be vulshock morningstar. the spike isn't my best equipment at all, but it's up there and i think it's way underrated. the potential ability to deal ten damage on turn four with one guy is nuts. it makes every single creature a bigger threat than it was before and something the opponent simply must deal with.
Right. The SoFI helps you get through because it provides TWO color protections before it's effect triggers (not to mention the +2/+2). The Quietus Spike does nothing of the sort, which is why I agree that it's really terrible. I too would prefer the Trip Noose in pretty much everything.
I think you could pull the Moonglove Extract too. It's... meh. In fact, have you Seen Aeolipile? It's still pretty bad, but it's a straight-up upgrade from the Extract...
I think you could pull the Moonglove Extract too. It's... meh.
this i agree with. but i also think that trip noose is sub par as well and would still need replacing with something better.
so on the chopping block for the next update are mirri for zealot and extract for trip noose.
i guess there's really no way i can make a better case for the spike. i think it's really good, you guys don't. i don't think it's as good as a lot of other equipments in my cube, but i still think it's good enough to make the cut.
Do you run a Ring of Gix? It's better than the trip noose by far. Don't worry about the echo. In control, the tempo advantage and the future investment of only 1 per activation makes it better. As does its ability to tap artifacts and lands. The card's amazing.

i totally agree here. we do not run ring of gix, but i will definitely be adding it to the want list. i would also love to see scuzzlebutt replaced w/ a better artifact creature. i thought about epochrasite, but i don't really see it as being all that great either. darksteel colossus is another good one, but i don't push the reanimator archetype in my cube at all (nor do i want to) and eleven mana is often hard to come by.
first of ill say im lazy and card tags are not me so ya with that said
i agree that mirri is worse than zealot. i was against really taking him out in the first place but id love to see him back in.
on the spike arguement actually from all the talk that has been done no one noted that it has deathtouch. to me thats an evasion ability. so either ur gonna kill a guy or ur gonna make ur opponent lose half thier life. either way imo thats good.
trip noose is just strictly worse than alot of cards, its activation cost is to much for me. i love control decks but i dont like devoting 2 mana every turn.
journeyers kite is jsut amazing its really one of my favorite mana fixers. i dont expect many ppl to put up an agruement that will convence me that it should come out of the cube.
the rest of the artifacts i really could care less if they stay or go theyare good in thier own right but they are also bad in thier own ways
lorescale coatl seems fun i wanna try this dude. UG in our cube as some stupid synergy so im lookin forward to makeing this dude huge its something that our UG needed.

we also discussed ARB inclusions and replacements and after mulling over the set and the "good stuff", here's what we feel is worthy of inclusion and what we'll probably take out for it.
PUTTING THIS IN -> TAKING THIS OUT
lorescale coatl -> gaea's skyfolk
lorescale coatl could have been almost any of our u/g stuff. it came down to skyfolk or infiltrator and unblockable > flying.
jenara, asura of war -> bant charm
sen triplets -> esper charm
we really like all the charms from shards, but i think a permanently pumpable angel and a better than teferi (in the right colors, that is) are both better than their respective charms.
maelstrom pulse -> consume strength
we thought about cutting putrefy for pulse, but pulse > consume strength, so now we have both.

bloodbraid elf -> voracious cobra
the cobra was originally set aside to be replaced by apocalypse hydra. now this isn't to say that hydra won't eventually make it's way in. i really want to try that guy out. but the elf just seems to do what r/g does best.

as i said, if i'm replacing something in my cube i look to that section of the cube to find something that i feel is worse than the card i want to put in. in the case of colored cards, if i'm putting in a spell i go to the spells of that color. if it's a creature, i look to the creatures. in the case of artifacts, though, there are utility artifacts, mana artifacts, artifact creatures, equipment, and removal. i'm not above removing artifact for artifact, but if i can i try to remove equipment for equipment, or mana artifact for mana artifact, etc. and so when i had to put in scroll roll i looked at the utility artifacts. trip noose looked to be the worst card in those slots and so it got the cut.
saying it's bad because it does nothing if you can't get damage through is like saying jitte is bad and we all know that is not the case at all. it's more expensive than jitte, but even w/ no mana accel i can still have it equipped and active as early as turn four. i'm not saying it's as good as jitte, i'm just comparing your reasoning behind saying it's bad.
would i carry it over a burn spell? maybe. it's situational really and dependant on what my draft pool looks like. i'd prefer to pack it alongside those burn spells and hopefully i've got a lot of evasive creatures to boot.

It's just too expensive according to it's effect - look at Loxodon Warhammer at excactly the same cost.
6 mana is a huge investment, and if you play turn 2 creature, turn 3 spike, turn 4 equip, you are setting yourself up to a quick loss.

so compare it to something like sofi. obviously that's one of the best cards in the cube and i'm not saying spike is anywhere near as good because it's not. but in order to take full advantage of sofi, you have to push damage through. granted, the sword gives a p/t boost, but it's the ability that makes it shine. if it were just an equipment that gives a p/t boost it might as well be vulshock morningstar. the spike isn't my best equipment at all, but it's up there and i think it's way underrated. the potential ability to deal ten damage on turn four with one guy is nuts. it makes every single creature a bigger threat than it was before and something the opponent simply must deal with.

I think you could pull the Moonglove Extract too. It's... meh. In fact, have you Seen Aeolipile? It's still pretty bad, but it's a straight-up upgrade from the Extract...

this i agree with. but i also think that trip noose is sub par as well and would still need replacing with something better.
so on the chopping block for the next update are mirri for zealot and extract for trip noose.
i guess there's really no way i can make a better case for the spike. i think it's really good, you guys don't. i don't think it's as good as a lot of other equipments in my cube, but i still think it's good enough to make the cut.

i totally agree here. we do not run ring of gix, but i will definitely be adding it to the want list. i would also love to see scuzzlebutt replaced w/ a better artifact creature. i thought about epochrasite, but i don't really see it as being all that great either. darksteel colossus is another good one, but i don't push the reanimator archetype in my cube at all (nor do i want to) and eleven mana is often hard to come by.

Then, add Tinker and put in Inkwell Leviathan as a blue finisher (it's amazing anyways). And bingo! You've got another archetype. ;-)

I agree with this completely. I actually like Epochrasite a lot but he is no Sundering Titan.
first of ill say im lazy and card tags are not me so ya with that said
i agree that mirri is worse than zealot. i was against really taking him out in the first place but id love to see him back in.
on the spike arguement actually from all the talk that has been done no one noted that it has deathtouch. to me thats an evasion ability. so either ur gonna kill a guy or ur gonna make ur opponent lose half thier life. either way imo thats good.
trip noose is just strictly worse than alot of cards, its activation cost is to much for me. i love control decks but i dont like devoting 2 mana every turn.
journeyers kite is jsut amazing its really one of my favorite mana fixers. i dont expect many ppl to put up an agruement that will convence me that it should come out of the cube.
the rest of the artifacts i really could care less if they stay or go theyare good in thier own right but they are also bad in thier own ways
lorescale coatl seems fun i wanna try this dude. UG in our cube as some stupid synergy so im lookin forward to makeing this dude huge its something that our UG needed.
