Ditto! The Easter Island head makes it all come together. (Aside: I have four tiny Easter Island heads arranged in a circle on my desk. Inside the circle, there is a ring of 12 rubber poison dart frogs. A rubber toad is in middle of that circle. Obviously, the toad is being sacrificed by the frogs. Yeah, my coworkers must think I'm nuts).
Me too, I was thinking that this was going to be the hardest alter for Demonium because of how cluttered the original picture is, but he did a great job recreating the clutter in a unique way.

That sounds incredibly awesome. I second the request for pics.
So I recently put together a list of cards that still need to be altered (cards that can't be foiled or that have recieved the horrid FTV treatment...)
If anyone has any cool ideas for these, I'm all ears. I'll be contacting Klug here in the next few weeks with about 5 cards to alter and need some cool ideas.

Do you prefer completely new art, extended borders, or just slight alters? I'd personally prefer slight alters or extended borders.. something that still give semblance of the original art..

It really depends if the original has good art (which is extremely subjective I know haha), but I ususally prefer new art, ala many of the alters on the past few pages. The extended art just doesnt have the WOW factor I'm looking for, but I've seen some well done partial alters.
If I was to get my Control Magic altered, it would be a faerie (or maybe Meloku or Rayne) with a glowing blue leash around the neck of Inferno Titan or Thornling.
I love the art on Fire Imp and would only get it altered to fill up the horrid white border. Sylvan Library has pretty wicked art too.
Those demonium alters are friggin' incredible, along with the poxy ones above. Demonium is probably the best alterer on the site IMO, though poxy is not far behind.
This is the control magic the cube I play with (Cuttup's) uses:
Masamune did it, he does some good work though he isn't around as often...
Overall Impressions of White: A little shallow on the cube front, but understandable since this set is supposed to highlight the monster invasion and humanities continued downfall.
Blue:
Nothing
Overall Impressions of Blue: Another extremely dissapointing set for Blue. Nothing really of note unless your playing an aggressive Blue section.
Black: Black Knight --> Gravecrawler: The CC 2 drop purge continues, thanks Gravecrawler! I really like the resiliency of this card and the fact that he acts as another combo piece for black.
Overall Impressions of Black: Another solid 2 power 1 drop is always appreciated, especially when we just got one in the previous set.
Red: Instigator Gang[/c] --> Torch Fiend: Not entirely sure on this cut, but Red got bombarded by interesting cards throughout the preview weeks, and then this little gem appeared at the end, making for a tough couple cuts. If anyone has another suggestion, I'd love to hear because I actually enjoy the OG IG. Bogardan Hellkite --> Hellrider: The dragon just didn't get played much, so I think another aggro curve topper will do just fine. Chaos Warp --> Faithless Looting: Red has been waiting for this effect for quite a while, and thankfully, it's arrived. Chaos Warp took the dive for it, but I'll be looking to include it at a later date if something else begins underperforming.
Overall Impressions of Red: Sweet Jesus, thank you WOTC. Some solid upgrades and exciting new cards add another dimension to red and give the color a fresh new outlook.
Green: Pouncing Jaguar --> Wolfbitten Captive: I cannot express how much my group and I hate echo creatures, so if I have a chance to replace one, I will. Terastodon --> Strangleroot Geist: The geist is a strong aggressive card that combos well with sacrifice effects. I've decided to decrease my 8 drop section to just Woodfall Primus, though this may change if I see a noticeable change in viabilty for Ramp. Albino Troll --> Deranged Outcast: The outcast looks interesting and may play better than I think he will, so I'm giving him a shot. As for Albino Troll, see above. Kodama of the North Tree --> Vorapede: I love Undying and wish more strong cards were made to take advantage of it. This plays a similar role in rewarding heavy green drafters by providing a hard to deal with body that can get in for damage. The upgrade comes from the increased durability of Undying and combat flexibility of Vigilance.
Overall Impressions of Green: Again, thank you WOTC. Green made out even better than Red did, grabbing some extremely solid early beaters and a new Finisher thats sure to bust heads in the coming months.
Guild: Stillmoon Cavalier --> Lingering Souls: I'm beginning the push towards token strategies, so this was an easy addition. Stillmoon has been solid, but not as solid as those he's contending with in the W/B section, which is becoming extraordinarily deep. Mortify --> Sorin, Lord of Innistrad: Whats there to say other than Hell yes, Sorin is back in a big way. I honestly think he'll be one of the premiere PW's in the next "Rank the PW's" vote we have. Giant Solifuge --> Huntmaster of the Fells: Overhyped? Yah, but still worth a look. I really like the card for w/e reason, but will consider this a testing slot, with the Solifuge coming back in if HotF underperforms. Psychatog --> Havengul Lich: 'Tog has been in and out of the cube more times than I care to recall, but it keeps coming down to one thing: No one drafts him. Regardless of whether or not he's an allstar, if he's being left in the sb then I'm going to try a different card in his place. For us he ressembles an odd mixture of aggressiveness and game ending potential in a color combination that normally ends the game with extremely strong late game bombs, which tend to outclass the 'Tog and make him unneeded. On the Lich, he looks like he has some extremely high potential, but it will come down to how often he survives to your next untap step, which is where he'll break in half if you've built your deck correctly. Bituminous Blast --> Falkenwrath Aristocrat: Bit Blast has been solid, but was often a very expensive removal spell with an unreliable upside. I'll take the aggro push from the hasty 4/1 flyer and see how things fare.
Overall Impressions of Guild: I just saw someone post this (I don't know who sorry!) that their gold section represents a home for some of the more interesting cards in Magic and brings a unique feel to the gameplay when they make the final 40. I think WOTC did a great job providing strong, but unique guild cards in this set and can't wait to try them out in a week.
Colorless:
Nothing
Overall Impressions of Colorless: I wasn't expecting anything, thankfully.
As always, let me know what you all think. Feedback is always welocme.
I'd try to find other cuts than Albino Troll and Pouncing Jaguar. If your playgroup hates echo creatures so much that they refuse to play them in an aggro deck, that's reason to cut them, but aggro in cube has got to play bad cards over better expensive ones in order to make the archetype work, as unfortunate as that is.
I guess if Albino Troll and Pouncing Jaguar aren't getting played, they are good cuts. However, I find them to be great critters for aggro decks, and midrange will happily play the Troll.
I like Stillmoon and Psychatog much more than what you are bringing in for them, and I'm not sure about the Bit Blast/Aristocrat switch. I'd much rather cut Oona for the Lich.
White: Yosei, the Morning Star --> Restoration Angel: Taking out a redundant finisher, and arguably the worst of the remaining white ones, to add a very flexible creature that adds a lot of utility to any deck, CITP effects or not. Weathered Wayfarer --> Silverblade Paladin Mana Tithe --> Entreat the Angels: More of a test spot at the moment. Mana Tithe has never been bad, but I think Entreat the Angels is just awesome and want to at least test it out.
Blue: Theiving Magpie --> Tamiyo, the Moon Sage: I'm running the Horsemanship version of Magpie, so I can afford to lose his worse half, especially in the face of another awesome walker.
Inkwell Leviathan --> Dungeon Geist: More of the "culling redundant finishers". I have enough Tinker targets and more than enough end game threats in blue. Dungeon Geists however will be a more consistent inclusion in anything running blue, due to its dual purpose utility (locking down a threat and swinging for 3). Sphinx of Jwar Isle --> Consecrated Sphinx: I think the draw will be more relevant than the Shroud/peek abilities, and the bigger butt allows it to be a more viable blocker in the air. (Baneslayer Angel I'm looking at you.) Palinchron --> Timetwister: I wanted the blue power to return, so these were the sorry souls that got the boot because of it. Frantic Search --> Time Walk: See above. Forbidden Alchemy --> Ancestral Recall: See above.
Black: Plague Sliver --> Griselbrand: Want to try him out as a Reanimation target and decks that utilize Plague Sliver have been far and few between.
Red: Goblin Ruinblaster --> Lightning Mauler: Unsure about the cut, as the Ruinblaster has been fine. But I didn't want to cut another 2 drop (though maybe it is Blood Knight's time to go), and the other 3+ drops are nigh uncuttable in my opinion. Moltensteel Dragon --> Zealous Conscripts: Too many ways to kill it (artifact/creature removal) and not really worth the life investment most of the time because of it, making this an overcosted finisher.
Green: I've decided to go with the "ramp green" build, removing many of the 1-drops that played a role in aggro. I've also decided to focus more on the creature ramp aspect (elves/bird etc) as they lead to more explosive plays in my experience and therefore need the redundancy. After hearing some positive reviews, I'm also trying out Birthing Pod.
I don't like cutting fixing lands for lands that tap for colorless or for spells. I'd cut spells for those lands if I really wanted to run them all. I really think only Slayers' Stronghold, Desolate Lighthouse, and maybe Kessig Wolf Run are cubeworthy.
I'm almost done with my cut down to 450, but I'd like some input on a cut for red and black. Maybe the top 5 cards you'd cut from the colors (because some are in that I'm testing at the moment). On top of that, I'm trying to find room for Birthing Pod and Triskelion...
Also, if there are any cards that are blatantly missing that I looked over, let me know as well, Thanks!
Hello all, just had a great cubing night with some German friends at GP Strasburg. Here are the two Finalist decklists from a 6 man:
After three great games, the Reanimator came out on top!
Sweet alters man! The mono-W artifacts build is just crazy, I'll have to give drafting that a shot!
Thanks
Yah I had never seen something like that drafted because I was always of the frame of mind that 2color would just be superior always, but it worked out really well. He was able to accelerate into the Catastrophe a lot of times and blow out the lands while the opponenet had minimal board pressure, then just metalworker into a huge threat the next turn. It was pretty beastly!
Nice! The Voice is my favorite by far. It looks like a tattoo.
