I like the changes a lot, especially the Red and Pox archtype additions.
We should do some Cubing soon once my GTC order comes in!
I'm really busy at work nowadays, but I'm always free on saturday nights, all day sunday and mondays (most of the time). So if you're ever free then hit me up
Is there a reason you're at a 4 card guild section at 540? I've been at 5 for the longest time and it just feels right.
I had it at 6 per guild when I moved up to 585, but I didn't like the cards that I had in there, too many multicolor cards were tabling, so when gatecrash came around I felt like trimming it back down to pre RTR levels. I've had to make some hard cuts to get down to 4, but I like all of my guilds currently (Izzet finally!) and don't plan on moving up to 5 just yet. And I'm not overly optimistic about DGM yet, but if it includes some solid cards I'll definitely consider moving up to 5.
I cut simic sky swallower so I brought pelakka wurm back to keep the natural order targets level. And I've heard from a lot of people outside this forum on how good craterhoof is, so I'm testing it out now as well.
I'm going to try out some more gatecrash cards, since I feel like I've been too harsh on the set. I'm optimistic about all of these additions, and I'm very happy to have sarkhan back in the mix, I miss a good fires effect.
You won't be disappointed with Craterhoof Behemoth. Trust me. I'm still looking for one for my cube, but I've played with and against it in two other cubes and I've been blown away. I played it in a Bant ramp deck last week that used a mix of artifact and creature mana, and I was usually able to play it with 2-3 untapped dudes and it was game over every time.
Even when you play it with just 2 untapped dudes (not hard to do, even if they are just 2/2s or whatever), you are like "I untap, play my Craterhoof, attack you with an 8/8 and two 5/5s. Oh yeah they all have trample". It was particularly awesome with Garruk Wildspeaker, as he helped me get some 3/3s on the board, and then when I hit six mana, I used his untap ability to ramp me to 8 mana and cast the Craterhoof. Booyah.
[/CRATERHOOF FANBOYISM]
Secondly, I'd be sad to lose Unburial Rites, personally. I think it has some really fantastic interactions. For one thing, it's a card you can put in your deck to instantly make Gifts Ungiven insane, without needing any other support. I even got to live the dream of playing Gifts, Unburial Rites and Elesh Norn in the same deck, mimicking a popular constructed play. Obzedat is just another cool big dude. Despite Obzedat being really good, I think you miss out on a lot of fun losing the Rites imo.

Thirdly, when you gonna post dem pictures.
I'm definitely excited for the kinds of plays that craterhoof is going to make :). In the first deck he's been in so far, the guy had a survival engine, and he got a t4 deranged hermit, followed by not paying echo, playing gaea's cradle, then casting craterhoof and winning on the spot, it didn't always happen that fast, but he was closing games out with that card like nothing else. Gaea's cradle can be stupid crazy if you build your deck right.
I really like unburial rites as well, in fact it's my favorite orzhov card, but I've heard good things about obzedat so I figured I'd try him out for now, but if he fails to perform I'll bring in unburial rites for sure, that card can do very nasty things.
I'm actually ordering new sleeves and waiting on some alters to come in, once those are done I'm going to post pictures, I was planning on doing it when I had all my stuff altered as well as pimp. But the alter guy I've been using does great work, but at a slow pace.
I want to try out standstill since I've heard people have had success with it, I love blue tempo decks so it should be a fun card. Topsy Turvy has been insane and I recommend it to anyone with uncards in their cube.
Crypt Ghast didn't work out, so I reversed the cut, I'm trying out graveborn muse again with all the added zombies since innistrad. Kojiro has had success with cabal therapy so I want to try it out as well. So far it's been ok, nothing spectacular.
Hearth Kami and Ghitu Encampment haven't been cutting it lately, so they got cut. The two adds are just good aggressive cards. Not sure how long the loyalist will stay though.
I cut some more aggressive elements in green for some more ramp cards, I'm still trying to figure out the right mix for aggro and ramp in green and I'm getting closer to finding the right number.
Epochrasite was always solid, but never great, a 0 mana pump spell could be sweet. I moved maze of ith into the colorless section since it doesn't tap for mana, so it shouldn't be in lands at that point.
I'm going to test out the strix and see if I like it more than psyachog, the tog used to be one of my favorite creatures but lately nobody has been playing him, this is a change I'm most likely to reverse. Prime Speaker is a cool card but I want to try a more tempo oriented U/G, while it's not liked on the cube forums here, a lot of other people have liked it so far.
I've had some awesome times with all the filter lands in my cube, so I decided to try out some more, the bouncelands were all cut because I wanted all of my lands equally playable in control and aggro alike. Reflecting pool is in over maze of ith's slot, I might make it tectonic edge at some point.
Thanks for reading and let me know what you guys think :). I was also thinking of cemetary reaper in here, do you guys think it's good enough?
I'll talk to my playgroup about swapping back sublime archangel for fiend hunter, since the last time we had the hunter in it wasn't great, but wasn't bad either.
Cabal Therapy is in for testing, so I'm keeping it in for now, diabolic servitude was always an OK card but never anything exciting. Bloodline keeper has taken over games when he's resolved, and is a good creature producer for the pox decks.
This is also a test swap but I still don't like oblivion stone anyways so I'll find another artifact to add in if the growth ends up being bad. A zero mana pump spell warrants testing though
This is also a test, people outside of this forum have had a lot of success with it so I want to try it out, but I don't think this swap will last very long. Prime Speaker is insane.
I don't like bouncelands anymore since they aren't as good for aggressive and tempo oriented decks. Do you have any other ETBU fixers you'd recommend instead?
This card is just insane and should definitely be in my cube, Ghor-Clan is really good as well and would be my next addition to the section. But Huntmaster was a card I should have been running for a while.
After reading wtwlf's reasoning behind cutting pyroclasm, I've decided to do the same, and earthquake is a good card I've never run before, because it is worse than rolling earthquake, but that doesn't mean earthquake is good as well. The 7th art looks pretty good as well.
I've realized that keiga just isn't as good as she used to be. Nowadays it's only good in the control matchups where if they attack with their finisher you get it. Against other decks it never takes anything worth it. With Aetherling coming in the new set as well, I'll be able swap frost titan for it. So I'll get rid of the two worst finishers in blue.
I want to test this after hearing how good it's been in other people cubes (mostly outside this forum). I don't think it will last long but I've decided to at least give it a chance.
Been listening a lot to the magic box podcast, and they really like sphinx, so I think I'll give it another shot. Gifts was a cut because I don't like the amount of 4 drop blue cards I had.
Decided to move some of the cool 3 color cards to the colorless section because they're never really played on power, but more on fun. Broodmate and Rafiq were not played however, so I get to get rid of the bad ones and even get to try out maelstrom wanderer, who, while fun, hasn't been that great so far.
Here I just made some swaps for cards I want to give a chance to. I'm open to suggestions on other cuts. And I've been looking to add trinket mage into my cube but I can't find a cut for it, what would you guys suggest?
Thanks for reading :), my alterer is running late on my last batch of alters, but once I get those I can finally take some pictures of my cube!
Given that I run Trinket Mage over Shelldock Isle and Ancestral Visions I suggest cutting one of those. How good is Topsy Turvy? I admit to not understanding why this is good. Manipulating effect that end at your end step?
How good is Topsy Turvy? I admit to not understanding why this is good. Manipulating effect that end at your end step?
I haven't play it, but I can see why it's good. Think about what the card does. It untap your land at the end of turn, effectively giving you a fresh new turn next turn you play. Your opponent land remained tapped until his end step, so he can't cast anything the turn you play Topsy Turvy. It's pretty much work as 3 mana time walk. If you can bounce it, then all the more crazy.

I'm going to talk to my group about those swaps next time we meet. Though after a few drafts with pyrewild shaman I'm going to cut him, I probably didn't give him enough credit, but if others have success with him I'll try him out again. I'm going to be bringing back in blistering firecat instead. It's probably the better card anyways. Electrolyze is a pet card of mine, and a running joke in my playgroup, so it stays for that reason.
I also like P bolt more than Electrolyze, but really, all the old big 3 of izzet are probably not all that difference in term of power.
I wouldn't cut Worldly Tutor either.

I've never been a fan of wordly tutor, it's like the 5th best tutor in green and I never felt like it was the right card in any of my decks.
On topsy Turvy, after playing with it for a while I noticed that it was very powerful, but nobody liked to play with or against it, because of what it does to the game. I'm going to cut it like I did magical hacker and richard garfield. They are all powerful and playable, but they carry a bad stigma when cast, and they're un cards so people feel cheated by them. I'll be adding trinket mage in instead.
I'm also going to cut molten tail masticore for the OG masticore, molten tail was never good enough for the aggro or midrange decks, so I'm bringing in the OG to see if control and midrange decks play it against aggro.
I'm not sure on a lot of these cuts so if you guys see anything completely out of whack let me know. I'm not including chandra in this update because I've gotten burned on the last few planeswalkers I bought and tried (liliana, vraska, domri). I'll be just proxying her and testing her out in red decks she should be good in. That way I still get to play with her and don't have to upfront the money only to have her underperform. I'm excited to see what a small spell matters subtheme will do. Talrand is the only card I don't think will be that good on his own but standstill has been pretty awful so I'm not losing anything there. Cheers!
I would keep Ring of Gix in instead of Gut Shot. Also would try to find a way to keep Masticore in but that's just me. Gilded Drake I would avoid cutting also.

IN -> OUT
Terminus -> Akroma's Vengeance
People have been having some success with terminus, and akroma's vengeance is only decent.
Thought Courier -> Jace, Architect of Thought
Jace hasn't been performing, and I think looters are great cards for all sorts of decks.
Abyssal Persecutor -> Bloodline Keeper
For the pox package, so it can have a giant cheap creature.
Pelakka Wurm -> Explore
Craterhoof Behemoth -> Terastodon
I cut simic sky swallower so I brought pelakka wurm back to keep the natural order targets level. And I've heard from a lot of people outside this forum on how good craterhoof is, so I'm testing it out now as well.
Noxious Revival -> Basilisk Collar
I've missed this card for quite a while now, and the collar really needs the equip and casting cost switched.
Duskmantle Seer -> Baleful Strix
Obzedat, Ghost Council -> Unburial Rites
Sarkhan Vol -> Stormbind
Ghor Clan Rampager -> Tattermunge Maniac
Prime Speaker Zegana -> Simic Sky Swallower
I'm going to try out some more gatecrash cards, since I feel like I've been too harsh on the set. I'm optimistic about all of these additions, and I'm very happy to have sarkhan back in the mix, I miss a good fires effect.

White:
Syndic of Tithes -> Leonin Relic-Warder

Honor of the Pure -> Mikaeus, the Lunarch
Midnight Haunting -> Entreat the Angels
Straightforward changes here, all the cards cut didn't see much play so I'm swapping them for some oldies and some new ones.
Blue:
Thought Courier -> Standstill
Cyclonic Rift -> Topsy Turvey
I want to try out standstill since I've heard people have had success with it, I love blue tempo decks so it should be a fun card. Topsy Turvy has been insane and I recommend it to anyone with uncards in their cube.
Black:
Crypt Ghast -> Bloodline Keeper
Diabolic Servitude -> Graveborn Muse
Death Cloud -> Cabal Therapy
Crypt Ghast didn't work out, so I reversed the cut, I'm trying out graveborn muse again with all the added zombies since innistrad. Kojiro has had success with cabal therapy so I want to try it out as well. So far it's been ok, nothing spectacular.

Artifact/Colorless:
Epochrasite -> Mutagenic Growth
Oblivion Stone -> Maze of Ith
Epochrasite was always solid, but never great, a 0 mana pump spell could be sweet. I moved maze of ith into the colorless section since it doesn't tap for mana, so it shouldn't be in lands at that point.
Multicolor:

Pyroclasm -> Earthquake

Graveborn Muse -> Raven's Crime
Trying out another discard spell. Ended up not testing graveborn muse that long, but it was the most expendable anyways.
Obzedat, Ghost Council -> Gerrard's Verdict
Needed more discard spells, and verdict is a great card, this swap is more of a sidegrade.
Gifts Ungiven -> Sphinx of Jwar Isle
Been listening a lot to the magic box podcast, and they really like sphinx, so I think I'll give it another shot. Gifts was a cut because I don't like the amount of 4 drop blue cards I had.

Sphinx of the Steel Wind -> Artifact
Broodmate Dragon -> Mortar Pod
Rafiq of the Many -> Basilisk Collar
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker -> Artifact
Wild Nacatl -> Maelstrom Wanderer
Decided to move some of the cool 3 color cards to the colorless section because they're never really played on power, but more on fun. Broodmate and Rafiq were not played however, so I get to get rid of the bad ones and even get to try out maelstrom wanderer, who, while fun, hasn't been that great so far.
Bogardan Hellkite -> Goblin Welder
Eternal Dragon -> Honor of the Pure
Blistering Firecat -> Imperial Recruiter

I don't like the cuts of Phantom Centaur, Blistering Firecat, and especially Worldly Tutor. My cuts would be Pelakka Wurm, Ohran Viper, and Mogg War Marshal or Shrine of Burning Rage. I like Prophetic Bolt more than Electorlyze but it's not a big deal.
