I would *love* to draft this sometime. Will likely never get a chance, so I'll settle for finishing my standard cube with proxies in the next few weeks...
Also, love the cube invitational tournament idea mentioned earlier. Wish they would do a PT: Divergent Formats, with some wacky sealed (6 different packs) + build your own block day 1, a couple of different full set rotisserie drafts in pods to start day 2 followed by something oddball constructed, and then a top shelf cube for T8 Sunday. I can dream, right?
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
If you were to choose an artifact "terminator" card that isn't Umezawa's Jitte, what would it be?
I kind of want to remove it from the classic cube.
Oh man, I don't know. Something else with a cool keyword that wasn't used in classic magic that's both powerful and iconic. That doesn't share a keyword/ability with one of the other terminator cards.
I'd take Mimic Vat over Scepter. It's more consistent and makes the final 40 more often. It's also more fun. I find that Scepter pisses me off more than any other card in the cube.

yeah, I like the idea of mimic vat. I can't believe it isn't in my Legacy cube yet!
I just don't like Jitte because more often than not, it wins every game it sees. We joke that if you are playing Jitte and at least 1 creature, you're playing a combo deck.
I like the classic cube because of the different styles of decks it forces you to draft. Jitte just made it unfun, but maybe that wasn't the concern of the classic cube...
I played Mimic Vat in a goofy Red/White deck the other night and while I didn't win, it was really fun coming close with Siege Gang Commander imprinted making blockers and sacking for burn.
I play QL Magic (www.qlmagic.com) a variant where players can only play with cards with the old Magic card frames, in contrast with the Modern format. As such the format allows players to play with cards from Alpha up to Onslaught block.
The format also uses an older version of the rules, which incorporates rules that have since been altered or simplified. In principle, QL Magic adopts the 6th Edition Rules, dated 1 June 2003, except for some modifications. The main rules differences of QL magic are: Combat damage goes on the stack; Feedback damages: also known as mana burn, for what concerns mana still in the mana pool and that has not been used within the end of a phase; and Artifacts are turned off while tapped.
@ The Knight who say Ni: I love classic Magic, and if you guys wanna use this list for your format go ahead! The list is a bit antiquated now and could use some upgrades from other cube gurus that also only use old-school cards. But it's definitely still draftable as is, and is a blast to play!
I don't know man, I haven't managed this cube in years. Cut whatever your playgroup likes the least and keep the ratios more or less the same.
Hi wtwlf123,
You are without a doubt the greatest Cube designer in history and our playgroup regards you as a god.
I really like what you have done here with the Classic Cube. When you get some time is it possible for you to please update this to 540 cards so it can be Glimpse drafted with 4 players.
There seems to be quite a few strong cards that other peoples classic cube have been running that yours doesn't.
With Glimpse drafting in mind, I think that opens this back up to further archetype support that you have left out, and will enable 540 cards with ease.
I just read through the last couple pages of this thread and man, what a blast from the past. As a fellow old fogey this cube was (and still is) a really cool idea. Old Magic is best Magic.
My playgroup have been constructing and play-testing an Old-Bordered cube for the past 12 months which we feel plays pretty well, but we are always looking to improve. If you get a moment would you be able to have a quick look at the list and see if anything looks out of place, or should be included.
Your list looks awesome man. It's been like a decade since I've put any effort into balancing an old-frame cube, so my only suggestion would be to play a smaller list if you can, and make sure to include cards you guys love seeing in the drafts. All the best!
Those 2 don't seem to get picked much because of fear of getting mana screwed.
Also thinking of dropping Sneak Attack, our analysis shows that the lack of Big Targets with Enter Battlefield effects in the old boarder Cube is very limited. Was that your experience with your Old-boarder cube?
Anyway, I finally had time to decorate the case for your OLD FACE cube:

Maybe Isochron Scepter? It has imprint... and so does Mimic Vat now.

I guess I just didn't notice at the time.
It was a card that was visiting from the future to destroy the cube!
There was one in each color that provided a power/fun/unique mechanic/effect.

For example, Blue tempo could have cards included like Parallax Tide, Equilibrium, Standstill, and many others.
Really hope you are able to take this on
This list is woefully outdated, and even with a fixed card pool, it still needs to undergo massive changes.
I don't have the time to take that on right now, since it would be an outrageously lengthy process.
If anything, I would reduce the cube size to 405, which works perfectly with 3-player Glimpse and works well with 4-player Sight drafts too.

We have decided to stick with 540 because it enables us to continue to support a wide range of Archetypes with strong emphasis on cross-pollination.
Cheers, and happy cubing.

I don't remember about Sneak Attack, honestly.
I haven't cubed an old-frame cube in over a decade.
