Whenever Otharri, Suns' Glory attacks, you get an experience counter. Then create a 2/2 red Rebel creature token that's tapped and attacking for each experience counter you have.
2RW, Tap an untapped Rebel you control: Return Otharri from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
3/3
-------------------------------------------
Likely this one does not break the top 3 Boros section, but in large cubes it seems to be a really strong card as well. haste and Lifelink and 2/2 token generation in a progression are not something negligible IMHO. Thoughts?
It's extremely difficult to recur if the rebel you create dies. Even then, it ETBs tapped. I think this is a lot worse than things like Phoenix of Ash / whatever the 4-cmc Phoenix from Ixalan was called. Red and white have no shortage of recursive threats.
Cool card IMO. Very snowbally since the number of attacking rebels (missed the etb attacking part on first read) keeps growing and further phoenixes pick up at the point the older one ended. 5 mana is soooo much though.
Decent for sure.
The lifelink makes this a bit better of a midrange card than other pure Agro finishers.
It can spiral out of control if left unchecked, but perhaps not at the consistency it needs to in todays high powered environment.
Overall I think there’s plenty of strong red 5’s and don’t think this is any better.
Occasionally this will eat a lightning bolt or a snuff out and feel pretty bad for 5 mana.
I get more and more interested in jamming all the experience counter counters in a lower power cube since they have very strong synergy with each other, but aside from that thi s is an easy pass, 5 is too much.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Yeah CalebD going crazy about it, calling it a top 20 cube card non-sarcastically lol. I'd be shocked if that was true, but I watch him stream enough to know he knows what he's talking about when it comes to cube.
I suspect there's some mania going on when a "new" card is clearly way better than initially expected.
There's enough situations where this card doesn't do much for it's mana cost that despite the hype, I'd double down it's being a little overrated. Happy to admit I under-rated it tho (thought it was ~= thundermaw hellkite at first glance)

So this was dead wrong, top 3 Boros card for powered cube and perhaps too strong for unpowered

What's really funny is I never really viewed Thundermaw Hellkite as a finisher, but more as an "answer" to planeswalkers, that more midrange red decks have struggled against.
I think this is a good card, and definitely justifiable, but competition is tight.
How are people comparing this bird to Riders of Rohan, another boros 5 drop?
Honestly I prefer the latter, since it's better on defense, versus removal, and as a more rounded card. The Phoenix is reliant on attacking and is rather fragile by itself, even if it snowballs better - doesn't that feel a bit win more?

I'd also much rather have Riders of Rohan than Otharri for the reasons you mentioned. Otharri ain't bad, but I feel like a lot of its praise comes from being able to take advantage of the inefficiencies of the MTGO Vintage Cube / the poor competition in leagues in general (very "bring a knife to a gun fight"). Put any other similar card in its place and you'll roughly get the same thing.

I wouldn't categorize a card that can easily win the game by itself a win more card
I think the lifelink on otharri makes it deceptively good "on defense". If the lifegain is relevant it's up to an 8! point life swing literally the turn it enters play.
I agree it's weaker in more situations, but if your opponent doesn't have a big flyer or an immediate answer, it's so much more devastating.
Imo Otharri is better, but the gap between the two is sensitive to the cube it's in.
Eomer king of rohan has tested really well for me fwiw.
Ya, if you're in the market for a 5-drop that actually slaps, Éomer, King of Rohan is a baller.
Got a copy of this guy so I might drop him in and see. Doesn't seem too hard to have a couple of humans about. Even the floor doesn't see unplayable for the stats, ping and monarch.
This outraced a turn 3 Exhumed Griselbrand where I was on the draw. My opponent made a few mistakes and I drew well, but that fact that it could do it at all is a testament to it's power. I'm going to give it a thorough testing.
