Mono black Edric seems cool. Black doesn't exactly go the widest by itself, but paired with black / red / green it can. Edric only being a 2/2 and being blue held it back a bit, although the tradeoff with Gix is that the draws cost you a life. Random mana sink ability seems cool too. I might try this one out, I always like the high ceilings of Edric type effects.
Seems solid. I always loved edric and the 1 life downside seems almost a worthy trade off to make it a 3/3.
I reallllly wish it was 2B as it could be played in mana dork decks or splashed in W/R Agro. As is I’m currently not going to test as it’s a B Agro only card that doesn’t directly support aristocrat synergies.

I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
I don't love that this is a pretty mediocre creature in combat. Like edric, it has the problem that it does nothing when you're behind and doesn't brawl super well on its own. The 4BBB ability will rarely be relevant (you'd want to have, like, 2+ lands in hand I guess?). I think the phyrexian wurm thing is a better 1BB card.
This is sort of exactly what I’m looking for in black aggressive strategies. I wish it had a single relevant keyword to make the creature better, but that’s asking a lot when this is already a 3/3 instead of an ogre.
I feel like they could have pushed Gix a little more, but this is still powerful. I like this in my U/B evasion/ninjas tempo builds which already splashed green for Edric and Toski. I’m not sure I’m really super thrilled with either of those, though, and this isn’t much better. I feel like This is exactly the kind of card I was looking for to glue that together, but I’m close to the point of scrapping them all, so I’m not sure where I’ll land. Probably all or none.
This is probably solid, but it's very narrow and has a feast-or-famine play pattern with how bad it is from behind. Black 3-drops are pretty tight, I'd rather include something more versatile over this.
This is great! I anticipate Gix will excel in stax/attrition style decks, getting you some much needed cards after you spend resources keeping the opponent down. Like it'll be cool to swing in with Rankle to force a mutual discard but then recoup what you lost with Gix's trigger.
Edric was a very competitive card in a tiny Simic slot, and suffered from being in suboptimal colours. Being vaguely on-curve is much better as a 3/3, and black has great aggressive options to make the most of it. The ability is usually going to be additive distraction. I don't love my black 3's so this will likely get a test run.
Our black aggressive decks aren't particularly low to the ground, and don't rely as highly on curving out with one drop creatures on one. Our black section also lacks early token producers, which is another strike against this card.
With that said, this is definitely a playable aggro and midrange creature in a thin cmc slot, and specifically rewards token strategies. Not sure if we try this, but I think it looks intriguing. Might have to give it a whirl since if you're the aggressor this can easily get out of control, even in just a single combat step, but I could see this being too slow a lot of the time too.
I don't expect the last ability to get used almost ever, but it being instant speed and there being no timing restrictions on playing the spells or lands could be an occasional game changer when paired with green.
