More flexible Flametongue Kavu that can also do a Bonecrusher Giant impersonation. Can't snipe large creatures like FTK, can be played on an empty board, and can be used as a 2-cmc Shock from your hand.
This looks great. I don't like it more than Bonecrusher Giant or Flametounge Yearling, but I'm still running Arc trail, and think I can slot this in that place.
I'm still running Magma Jet, so if there's any card that this could beat out, it's that. But I think scry 2 is worth more than the creature mode of this card. It's cool that it can pitch itself for Welder, but that comes at the cost of spells matter synergies. Also, it's a pain to try to play from exile. If only the creature half cost 1 less, then we'd be talking.
It looks good on paper, but I think both the channel/ creature are a bit too weak.

I love this card. Does it make it into cube on power alone? probably not.
But the flexibility and artifact synergy makes this an auto test for me.
I look forward to casting this off mishra's workshop or weldering it into play after channeling it
Good card, but I like Bonecrusher, Fury, and FTK more. Might be better than Flametongue Yearling, but the Yearling can come down earlier. I don't see myself having room for this.
This is essentially red's Shriekmaw. I think this is worth testing over FTK, which hasn't aged too well besides being able to snipe / trade with Questing Beast and pre-ultimate Hexdrinker. This offers a lot more flexibility and synergies with artifacts matters both in play / in the graveyard, as well as being fetchable with Imperial Recruiter in Kiki-Twin shells. Also helps a lot at enabling delirium if you run something like Dragon's Rage Channeler.
I was looking for a cut for generic Lightning Strike so I'll run this. I think I do like this over FTK thanks to being able to hit players, come down on an empty board, pitch to hit something at cheaper than 4 mana, and has more interesting synergies.
I've been playing Twinshot Sniper ever since it was released and have liked it a lot. Having a channel mode, being able to hit anything, and randomly being an artifact makes it really versatile.

Flametongue Kavu is still a very respectable card, but I was comfortable cutting it. There's a lot of redundancy in this effect now with things like Flametongue Yearling / Bonecrusher Giant / Twinshot Sniper / Fury / Mawloc / etc. As new cards came out I wanted more diversity in red, and it was FTK that ultimately got cut. FTK definitely has some strong advantages to it, but it being the least versatile of the bunch is why it was the one to go. Venser, Shaper Savant was also cut in blue for similar reasons since there's a lot of redundancy between Brazen Borrower / Subtlety / Aether Channeler / Otawara / Ertai Resurrected.
