Black's answer to Fire Imp! I don't think this cracks into most cubes here and will most likely find it's home in c/ubes (if even there) but maybe those few of us who have 1,000+ card cubes will find this interesting. It's a good card, after all.
It's a solid uncommon, but it being a sorcery as opposed to a creature doesn't really play into black's strengths.
I'd be interested if it was an Infest variant (at which point it would probably be too strong for a Standard set), but as a Disfigure variant, it leaves a lot to be desired for cube.
It's funny how the amass cards get worse in multiples. Like this making a 2/2 is pretty good (although probably not cubable). Making a 1/1 into a 3/3 is a lot worse.
Not a bad card at all. But I think black's removal suite is better than a harder to cast Fire Imp variant. Though I do think Fire Imp is a better card than its representation in cube lists implies. Red's 3's just got really stacked really fast. This card is probably pretty close.
The same thing happened to black 3 drops, maybe just to a lesser extent. I think this would have easily cracked my cube back when Vampire Nighthawk and Hypnotic Specter were the best options and many of us ran Dauthi Marauder.
Black has serious issues with too many B symbols. I love Fire Imp in my cube, but I wouldn't play it for 1RR, and 1BB is worse.
This would be a lot better if it were a creature with an ETB instead of making a creature, since black has tons of creature based recursion synergy. Fire Imp would ironically be great as a spell that made a token since it's red.
On a creature it's something to consider, but not great. As an instant it would get a slot in most larger cubes since being able to take out an x/4 is reasonable enough when it has upside in so many other situations. As it stands I wouldn't even bother testing it.
Fire Imp variant that competes with Dark Salvation, not bad. Double pip and not being a creature hurts though. I feel like Fire Imp hasn't aged well. This really needed to give -1/-1 counters like Skinrender, IMO.
