Looks like we have ourselves another contender for the red two-drop slot. At first glance this appears to be excellent to me. It serves as the first activation of Dismissive Pyromancer right away without needing additional mana. Can be the discard outlet that cards like Bloodrage Brawler acts as (trades size for replacing the card). And with a little bit of black mana, it can serve a similar role to Bedlam Reveler (trading P/T stats and prowess for no instant/sorcery requirement and more flexibility). I think this is probably a serviceable mono-red card if you categorize it there, and a contender for precious Rakdos gold slots. Thoughts?
I really like this card, but am unsure what I'd cut for it. I definitely *don't* think I'd categorize this as a guild card, but would rather consider the alt-cast as a reward for drafting Rakdos.
I think that I'd need a bear to Loot instead of Rummage on ETB for it to be there on its own. This would have to compete against the cards to find a slot in the cube, I think, and I'm not quite sure if it's enough to push one of the other cards out at the moment.
Good card though, and I like the flexibility. I'd probably test it out over a lesser gold card in a larger cube.
It's worth noting that if you're hellbent, the ETB trigger is just "draw a card". It makes it marginally better than a looting effect in a guild that (especially on Ravnica) is all about having no cards left in your hand.
This doesn't push it over the edge, I think, but is still relevant.
Ya, but the majority of the time, the trigger is just worse than a loot. I like it more on the pyromancer for several reasons. I have control over the window where I rummage, and I can do it multiple times. I'd probably play a 1-off ETB loot, but looting is quite a bit better than rummaging, especially in the early game.
Like I said, I think the card is quite good. But I think it's the access to the Spectacle trigger that really pushes it over the top.
The base mode is not good enough By itself, but it’s not embarrassing. It still has a lot of value in reanimator strategies.
The spectacle upside is very real, as 2BR get a 2/2 , draw 3 is super powerful.
but I believe the parlay of doing damage to the opponent AND not having a card in your hand you wish to keep is a bit too uncommon... considering the base mode is quite a bit under par for the most common red archetypes.
As of now I’m not testing, but it has sleeper potential. Could be underestimating the versatility of having both modes.
This card is okay. I see it as a decent red card with high upside if you're splashing black, but I was higher on it before I realized it is a "must" ability. Considering there are about to be a whole lot of new rakdos cards coming out over the next month, even if you currently have space in your guild section, that'll probably change by the time Allegiances hits the shelves. Im guessing that if you want to cube with this card, you'll have to classify it as a red card and that will probably force it out of most cubes.
This card is pretty nifty. 2/2 ETB rummage is a good floor, and its spectacle is strong. I wish the rummaging was optional, but at least you straight up draw a card if you're hellbent. As a red 2-drop, I think it misses the mark for me and I'd probably rather just play Abbot of Keral Keep / Dismissive Pyromancer over it. As a Rakdos card, this really can't compete.
This is one of those that I'll be happy enough to play if I open a copy, and happy enough to pass up if I don't. I always evaluate these kinds of cards as mono-color. It makes life easier.
I think this card looks really sweet for standard, and although I'm less enthusiastic for it's success in cube, I think it still looks quite good. I don't expect it to stick at 360, but I'll probably test it.
