Graveyard Marshal BB
Creature — Zombie Soldier (R) 2B, Exile a creature card from your graveyard: Create a tapped 2/2 black Zombie creature token.
3/2
Two mana for 3 power that can create bodies is worth looking at. I feel like this will often be a BB Borderland Marauder though, which may mean its floor is too low to warrant inclusion.
This is very reminiscent of Despoiler of Souls to me. I don't know which one I like more but Despoiler is pretty far from being in my cube which is a pretty good indication of where I think I will fall on this guy. The BB cost is pretty steep I feel like.

The second toughness and the dramatically lower cost for the GY activation (only removing one card in your GY??) makes this much better than Despoiler of Souls imo.
I think this is a fantastic two-drop for larger cubes. I recently added Relentless Dead and I think this is probably better, especially since it doesn't rely on the tribal synergy.
This isn't bad, but I think it's best in larger cubes (probably 630+), or those that feature a strong Zombie tribal theme. Probably a miss for me at 540.
This is good enough to get a trial run at 720 for me. Nezumi Graverobber has been showing its age lately and this could provide some, but not all, of its concept. Wish this could target a creature card in any graveyard.
I like this card a fair bit, but the BB mana cost stops it from being anything special.
Solid beater and can generate a lot of value for it's mana cost but... it really only shines in agro-midrange attrition battles where your creatures are trading off and neither player is going way over the top of each other.
If you are trading off resources and slam this guy in the mid game, he will take over the game extremly fast. I like that you can activate it the turn it comes into play and at instant speed. Means if you are hellbent and have 5+ mana, can cast it AND activate it. Can hold up removal, counter spells, other activations etc and EOT use the ability.
If they are trying to cast a wurmcoil, or a titan or something, your 2/2's for 3 mana aren't going to matter. If you have a full grip of cards, you aren't going to want to spend 3 mana to make a 2/2. So.. it is pretty matchup specific.
This guy is going probably going to be busted in limited.
It's decent, but the BB cost is prohibitive, and I want creatures that can recur, not cards that eat my recursive creatures.
But it has a decently powerful activated ability that carries into the late game. If mono-black aggro is a thing and it can reliably resolve early, it'll be great. I'm just not sure I have the environment to maximize it myself.
Don't get me wrong I don't think this is broken, but I think it is way better than the average take here. I view this card as modal as much as a 2 drop with upside.
I think the sweet spot is a 5 mana 3/2 that also makes a 2/2, with the ability to make more. But wait this card is better than that as it can be dropped on turn 2 but doesn't really need to as you are probably playing aggro or attrition with other 2 drop plans. I find it very unlikely you don't have a creature in the graveyard by the time you play a 5 drop. And yes some black creatures want to come back but also some black cards self mill.
Scrapheap scrounger is the only good 3 power 2 drop, and the rest are really wimpy (pack rat and bob are slow on the beat down)
Aggressive creature that takes over the game in the late game... Yea, easy slam into my cube.
I get what you mean but I don't know if I consider making tapped Gray Ogres limited to the amount of creatures in my yard "taking over the late game". How many activations do you expect to get off this in the average game it's cast? Even if I get 4 zombies I have sunk 8BBBB into it and I've been eating creatures from the yard I could be using for other ends.
It's a source of bodies for the agro decks but I can't help think more often than not it will hit once and maybe make a zombie.

I think the best way to look at it is a more aggressive and narrow Pack Rat.
This is a black 3/2 creature for 2 mana that can block. This is pretty unique, and it also can do some serious damage - just like any 3/2 for 2 mana creature.
What pushes this card for me to the top is that it has a very good mana sink ability. You don't have to sink it all at once, you can do it eot, holding removals on your hand as you're using the creatures you're traded before.
This card worth testing, it's unique if nothing else.
BB is too restrictive in my experience. I'm at the point where I'm on the edge of cutting all the heavy B cost cards cause the near mono-B deck never seems to come together for us.
I totally get that. Fortunately in my group there are a couple guys who love mono black, but not so much that its fought over. It is a really fun archetype to play with and against.

I also dislike that they have gone back to tapped zombies aswel.
It's a miss for me.

I used to write for MTGS, including Cranial Insertion and cube articles. Good on you if you can find those after the upgrade.

If I'm playing 2 color aggro, the color restrictions might become an issue.
I'm kind of lukewarm on this card, but am excited to see the testing results of others.
