How many 2 power creatures would one need to consistently get a creature from this? Do most cubes have the critical mass of 2 power creatures for this to be good? Are Imperial Recruiter and Recruiter of the Guard better because they always get your target? I really want to try this one out.
Sure, there is a chance of spending $4 on a booster and getting the Mythic Rare $30 super card. There is also a chance of surviving putting your tongue in a light socket.
think its good for peasant cubes. but white threes are way too thicc for this guy. plus with recruiter in the same slot doing the same thing i dont think there is a need for effect redundancy.
You would need 10 other creatures with power ≤ 2 to have a ~75% chance of hitting at least 1 card with this creature. You would need 14 other targets to have a better than 50/50 shot of hitting more than 1 target and getting to choose between multiple options. Seems narrow, and the competition is fierce at the 3cc creature slot.
The Recruiter(s) are better because they search your entire library and pick any target you want, instead of just the top 4 cards.
I guess this is only good if you want a tutor for aggro or something. Kinda like a pseudo 4-5 drop with the best grabs being Student of Warfare, Figure of Destiny, and maybe Skymarcher Aspirant on turn 4 or Selfless Spirit, Imposing Sovereign, SFM, and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben on turn 5.

The card seems decent for a weaker list like mine. It's the kind of card I'd be interested in: fine by itself, and pretty good if you build with it in mind. But four is not that deep to dig, and it'll whiff a lot, even in a well built deck. It might not make it even in a weaker list, and I'm sure it's not close to good enough for the average cube.
Still, it's an interesting card, and one worth keeping an eye one.
Yea that's pretty much it, you have so much more control over what you are getting with the two recruiters so you can use them to find your utility creatures or silver bullets, it will never whiff. With Militia Bugler on the other hand you just get your choice of what is on top so it mostly means this is for agro decks that have enough small creatures to guarantee it doesn't whiff.
White 3 drops are tough, I don't run all of the best ones and I still don't think I would find a cut for this dude. The floor is just so terrible as it's a vanilla 2/3 and even the ceiling of drawing a small creature isn't that amazing. I think it could have stood a chance if it put the creature into play, although that would probably make it a rare.
Could do ok in non-rare cubes as a source of card advantage for the aggressive decks, at least there it will feel a lot less painful when it whiffs.
I do like this card and I like it even more In a collected company deck going full on aggro value. I just fear it is not as useful as other 2 power 3 drops like reclamation sage, or blade splicer. It also fails to grab lots of the other good 3s like Brimaz and Thalia.
So in a non-rare cube all the way. For me probably I will grab a promo and it will rot in my on deck box.
What are peoples thoughts on the promo design? I think I prefer the semi-opaque text box from previous promos to the MTG logo box on these, something just looks a bit cluttered about it.
White on dark does make for a bit of variety though, like a lot of the promos it probably looks better in person.
Decent stats / abilities with a clean 2W cost, but the triggered ability is a bit restrictive. Duskwatch Recruiter has shown that these type of abilities can’t be picky. This would be a lot more appealing if you can reveal any creature rather than having a 2-power or less restriction.
I love this card, this is an effect that I feel that white would really value from and has great synergy in my cube.
That said, white 3s are my most competitive slot in my list, and this wouldn't be on the top 5 in the on-deck binder for replacing any of them. It's going to miss too often, and it's too fair.
Hard pass.
Compared to recruiters (which are good utility but are still nothing special) this guy falls far short.
A 25%+ Fail rate is pretty abysmal for the body. And even the best case scenario of hitting the best 2 power card in your deck isnt THAT impressive , given how strong cube cards are.
I think this is a fair bit worse than 2/3 vigilance + draw a card, which given how stacked white 3s are, I wouldn’t play until the 800+ range.
Recruiters being able to dig 25+ cards deep and having effectively no fail rate make an enormous difference in value.
