Sorcery speed, no body, UU, plus the exile clause? Looking forward to this in edh, but in unpowered cube, I think this is dead too often.

Sorcery speed, no body, UU, plus the exile clause? Looking forward to this in edh, but in unpowered cube, I think this is dead too often.
UU is a bit of a bummer, but this is strong in control / Spells Matters decks in high powered environments. Regrowthing Recall / Time Walk / Demonic Tutor / Balance / etc is extremely big game.
Blue regrowth is nice. Not sure how good though. It has a UU cost with no instant speed upgrade (to regrowth). It only targets two types of spells. Might test out, but not worthy of staple status at all.
I can understand not wanting this in an unpowered cube, but in powered cubes this seems good and it seems like a staple if you support storm combo. There isn't one cube storm deck that doesn't want this card.
I don't think this is particularly good. Regrowth is solid, but unspectacular, even in powered. Making a strictly worse one that's harder to cast, exiles itself and can only grab a fraction of the targets doesn't excite me. Especially when the competition in blue is so strong. Pretty easy pass, IMO ...unless you're deep into the Storm archetype support. It'll be an acceptable 7th pick in cubes that support Storm.
Snapcaster Mage this is not. Not even remotely close to being close to Snapcaster Mage.
The big key with the storm decks is it allows you to have a regrowth that essentially hits everything you want without having to play green. It's seemingly corner case, but it's a pretty big deal since regrowths are so good in the storm deck and it would often be worth playing the 3rd/4th color to get there. I know that's not applicable for most cubes, but this is a pretty huge deal for storm decks since it brings a pretty unique ability to a color that doesn't really have that and very much wants it/can find uses for it.
Agreed. Powered cubes heavily supporting Storm can add this in, and it'll be a fine mid-pack filler card for non-green Storm decks. But that's pretty much the only place I can visualize this card being successful in a cube setting, so I'm just not particularly excited for it.
But for other cubes, Regrowth isn't a good enough cube card that a much worse version would be good enough to compete.
I want to be optimistic about it because I think the art is cool and the effect is neat to see in blue; I just don't think it's good enough.
I’m going to test this in my powered cube, will be sure to give that a few reps when RIX hits. If it doesn’t pan out there, I won’t add it to my normal unpowered cube. I understand the skepticism, but there’s too many broken cards to recur for me to ignore this.
The thing is though, that I have enough reps with similar effects that I can predict how this will play. It's not like it's a completely new effect that I need to test out to see how it'll perform. We have multiple cards in the cube that are strictly better than this, and you can gauge this card's effectiveness by taking what we know about those effects and removing the things they can do that this card can't. And there's a LOT this can't do in comparison to its cubeworthy counterparts.
I hope you're right and you have success with it, but I just can't imagine this being close to good enough without Storm support.
Edit: The thing about Regrowth, is that despite being in a worse color for this kind of effect, the casting cost is a huge reason why the card is good. The ability to cast this spell and immediately replay/hold-up the spell you targeted is really big game. And trying to do that with a UU spell when getting back other blue spells is going to be a lot more difficult on your mana than it is with Regrowth. I think the cost will ultimately be prohibitive despite the arguably beneficial color-shift. Not to mention the insane competition it'll stack up against in the blue 2cc spell slot.
Yeah I can understand testing this, but I'm also skeptical for anything outside of a powered cube, and more so for ones that aren't running storm i.e. most of them.
@cuttups costing 3 is so much more than 2 that it's definitely a better version of the effect in the color. it's incredible how many winning lines are off one mana/one turn away because of that one mana, but yeah other than that you're not missing much
As an aside/non-cube tangent, does this make non-cube storm/combo decks? Regrowth wasn't, but that's more due to the fact that it's green than anything I imagine?
Interesting card...
Very rare do I see a card that I'd consider including in the highest powered small cube lists and no where else
Regrowth would be a significantly better card if it costed 1R, 1U or 1B, and it's card I love to splash when I have a bunch of cheap powerful instants sorceries. It misses main decks, but it's upside is quite high. When I'm playing regowth, I'm generally getting back instants and sorceries with it, which makes me strongly consider this card.
The smaller the cube, the higher density my deck will be of cards like thoughtseize, swords to plowshares, time walk, hymn to tourach etc.
I'd auto test the card if it were 1U, but UU is harsh, hurts the tempo the card significantly as well as the amount of decks it can go into.
Unsure if I'll test it.. It may not see play enough outside of deck with blue power, and not a big fan of a card that effectively ONLY increasing the value of already broken cards.
This isn't the worst, but it's not the best either. I might try it. Without the exile clause, I'd be more interested. As much as I love little synergies, I hate little anti-synergies like that.
Very Snapcaster Mage-ish. This seems very strong and possibly stapleworthy for powered cubes. Pretty excited to see this in Vintage. Thoughts?

In Unpowered cubes, it is even worse.
