This card seems pretty cool. It fails the doom blade test to a degree, but untapping with it is brutal. It helps that green 6s are largely undefined after Primeval Titan, and it's pretty neat as a green token supporter.
Out of those, I think Carnage Tyrant is definitely better and Great Oak Guardian is better when you're running twin, but it could be similar to the others. It also has the added benefit of not being one of the most boring creatures in the cube, unlike tyrant, and would probably be one of the most interesting ones. It doesn't gain you immediate value in a vacuum, but it might do the most for you once you untap. Six 2/2s is pretty gross.
...I do! Mondays, man, sometimes they make you illiterate.
I'm a little less high on it now that I remember how to read and it's a 4/4 and not a 6/6, but even then I could see it being good in Gx token builds or as a midrange finisher.
It's really scary both ways. Unless it gets killed before damage is dealt, you're getting 4 1/1s at min. It has the same Jitte damage clause, which on Jitte has proven how broken that can be.
Honestly, there's very little about this card that is 'Un' other than how they named the key words, but 'when this creature does damage, put that many 1/1 squirrels into play' and the rest are all at minimum effects that seem within normal magic's possibility.
This card may not be good enough, but if GW(r) tokens are a thing then this card should do extremely well in that archetype.
I like it a lot. I don't run any of the cards considered the top green six drops except Greenwarden of Murasa (which I really like), and I'm not really interested an any of the others. This has an unusual, and multi-useful token generating ability with untold hidden synergies, plus obvious synergy with tokens. It's great with fight effects, great on offense, great on defense, and best of all, it isn't oppressive due to a lack of meaningful protection. The art is also a relief from the same-old-same-old we're always getting.

The most "Un-" thing about the card is that they won't let MaRo put Squirrels in real Magic anymore.
This really does force the question of how serious the "dies to removal" argument is. At what mana cost do cards have to have an ETB to be considered? Because if this thing turns sideways it's insane.
There is real application to this card beyond those scenarios as a top-end tokens pay off card, but Im not sure how good it is at 6 mana. I really want this to be good enough, so I'll certainly be testing it. My instinct lines up with others in that a 4/4 might be too small, if this were a 5 drop or a 5/5 it would be so much better.
We like tokens, but I don’t think I would play this over GOG, Regal Behemoth, Carange Tyrant, or Greenwarden. A 6 drop that dies to Vindicate and 4 damage burn for no value is not where I want to be, and it can’t even attack into 4/5s very well.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Carnage tyrant is out of my price range for now so I might give this guy a go. If I have a couple of tokens sitting about when he comes down (I am probably already in a pretty bad shape if this is my 6 drop and I have no tokens on board) I and doubling my board presence by attacking if they were 1/1s and things can get crazy if they are bigger.
I'm a big fan of tokens so this at least merits testing.
Yeah, Im def less down than I was initially, but mostly because it's a 4/4 and not a 6/6 like I thought. There are always a decent amount of tokens in our green decks so I see that as less of a problem, and he *****s out a bunch himself. I'm still going to try him, but we'll see.
I will say that I seriously doubt this plays nearly as well as something like Carnage Tyrant or Regal Behemoth. Those in for the very best cards ever (which is most cubers) will likely be disappointed. I think this card is geared more to a power level like my cube, where I expect it to shine. It's never going to top the list for green sixes.

Agreed, its definitely worse on power level than Tyrant but I could see it being on the level Behemoth after testing. The monarch is immediate value, but there are a number of boards where that won't work out for you in the long run, and both really want to untap for their value after that but for different reasons. The squirrel is probably less useful than making a ton of mana, but it's such an exciting ability that I really want to test it first.
I can’t imagine a 6 mana creature that gets no value to sorcery speed removal geing cubeable, unless it basically ends the game when you untap.
Where this gets outclassed by basically every 6 drop in cube.
Now, this gets SOME immediate value if you have a lot of tokens in your deck. I can conceive of decks with lingering souls, bitter blossom and a bunch of planes walkers , where this card is playable... but those decks are rare, and probably not even that good unless straight BW or PERFECT fixing.
I’d be very very surprised if this was as good as regal behemoth in anything but a niche token deck.
It is WAYYYYY cooler though
It's pretty ridiculously strong, so it would be tough to design it in a way that was neither over or under powered. This type of effect at common/uncommon would make limited really not fun since you're always as punished for blocking than not blocking.
The green 6-drop we’ve all been waiting for
But seriously, Squirrellink is awesome.

I think Carnage Tyrant is better than this, but only because it doesn't die to spot removal.

Draft my Peasant Cube.
Putting that all together, it's a card that doesn't blow me away, but may qualify for the cube on the strength of squirrels being awesome.

Yea it seems like if you called the ability "Recruitment" or "Call to Arms" and it made soldiers it would be totally black boarder printable.
