I'm wondering if it'll end up being better than the artifact or worse. I'm guessing it's likely close though (definitely putting it in, hopefully can draft with it seeded in tonight.)

It'll probably be more 'consistent' in play, and by that I mean there will be more times where it does something/makes a maindeck vs crucible. Crucible being tougher to kill is definitely relevant, but I feel a lot better playing this in a deck with 2-3 fetches and no other interactions than I would Crucible.
Would it be too bold to call this an instant staple?
I think for mid-size cubes it is, and while I don't know if I would play it in the smallest cube that's only due to inexperience with cubes that size in general--it very well could be.

Yeah, that's true. It's like, I'm unsure if I'd include a Crucible in a deck with 2 fetches since it's a stone blank if you don't draw the fetches.
With Magus, it attacks for 2!
(I may just be underplaying Crucible, but it seems like I want either something really good to combo with it, like Strip Mine/Wasteland, or a lot of targets for it and it feels like that "barrier" is a lot lower with this guy. Sweet. )

Crucible fits into Wildfire where this is a bit awkward. Cruicible also has all the artifact interactions like producing mana for Metalworker. This has got some nice things going for it, though. I find there's a small handful of archetypes that want Crucible, and I think some will prefer this, and some will prefer Crucible.
Crucible > this, IMO, because it's colorless and not a creature is better for trying to get long-term value. If I had to only run one,
it'd be crucible (as long as price isn't a factor).

Yeah this generally sums it up. Crucible will probably be better in the highly-synergistic streamlined decks that will be trying to do something extremely specific every game where the land recursion can be back breaking/game winning, whereas this guy is the more fragile but more generically good version that can take advantage of decks with a couple synergies and will work well in other decks where Crucible will be the more streamlined version. Also it's green, so you're not playing this in UR Wildfire, but green has a lot of GY/land synergies as is so all those doors stay open.
Slamming this. Probably cutting Wickerbough Elder or perhaps Wall of Roots. I've got no green 3 mana creatures I'd be happy cutting. Or maybe Song of the Dryads?

I'm a little new to the Crucible type of effects in cube (or in general really). My group recently added Crucible for our 360 and and I imagine having this would be nice for some redundancy. Without much experience with the card, I'm a little skeptical about how often lands will end up in the yard, and how worthwhile this effect is to begin with. Like say, would you run this card with just 2 Fetches in your deck? What about a Fetch and a Strip Mine?
I like this more than Crucible. At 720 getting both crucible and Strip Mine/Wasteland is very hard. As a 2/3 creature, I'm happy if it only got me 1-2 lands, whereas with crucible I'm aiming for 3+. Also, being a green critter means you can tutor for the card with relative ease, a great quality for a build-around card.
We've been waiting for this card! It's an auto-include for me.

And it even has a respectable 2/3 body, so that it can even get involved in early combat.
Instant inclusion.
Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG

Too bad the art kinda blows imo.
