When Filigree Familiar enters the battlefield, you gain 2 life.
When Filigree Familiar dies, draw a card.
This not be the most exciting KLD card spoiled so far, but it's remarkably good value on a colorless creature, and it's a card I'd love to have in a RecSur or perhaps a control deck.
Decent value but at 2/2 this might be a bit too low impact for me. It'd be awesome if it was a 3/1 that could trade with more things. I have a feeling this card is going to have massive 24th card syndrome: most decks can play it but they also don't particularly want / need it. The synergies are there though, the question is would you cut anything in your cube / deck for it.
When I saw it, I immediately wanted to put it in my cube. So cute and kinda useful. I also thought of it as a colorless Kitchen Finks. However, I am afraid the card is not quite pushed enough to give it a home in traditional cubes. It needed to be a 3/2 in order to truly be a colorless Finks.
I think I am going to try it out anyway. There are some decks that would want something like this. Decks that need some early defense or decks that want sacrifice fodder. And the power level is not that far off.
I like it a fair bit. Seems like a solid speed bump for artifact decks that also have uses for the artifact synergies, as well as a strong sideboard card vs agressive decks.
Not a powerful card by any means, but I like the utility it provides.
edit:
Wanted to clarify. Think it will just miss on power level, but the TYPE of value it creates is definitely desirable and makes it more appealing than meets the eye. If you think about it, it's like a 2.5 for 1 against red agro
Yeah, Solemn Simulacrum is probably the better comparison. They even have the same body. The etb trigger is much weaker, but the fox costs 1 less. Maybe that is a fair trade?
Seems like a good package. Potentially too much of an aggro hoser and weak anywhere else, but currently much weaker cards are sided in against aggro. A fun card for artifact synergies and even decent in stacks decks, I'm going to test it.
Looks like it'll be good fun in the Welder/Daretti shells. Also pretty decent with Recurring Nightmare.
It also plays nice with Revilark, Sun Titan, Birthing Pod, Braids/Black Sacrifice, UW blink, Tinker fodder, and helps stem bleeding in aggro decks. It is an unexciting card but I feel like it has enough utility that it will make it into my cube (600 unpowered). I can even see it getting played in some control decks that need a chump blocker (like a worse Baleful Strix).
I think a lot of bottle gnomes or ruined servitor. Better than both but much like spined thopter and other artifact creatures it will only find a home in cubes pushing a specific theme.
Of course it is. But you have to include critical cube interactions when evaluating the card. At its base, it'll trade with an attacker, gain 2 life and draw a card. That's a 2-for-1 with decent tempo recovery. Not a bad speedbump for 3.
thanks! it drives me crazy when i'm searching for an old borderline card on these forums and find out the card name was off by one letter!
i'm not 100% in love with this guy, but it's close enough that i'd like to test. being a weird love-child of finks and solemn makes me at least want to try it a few times. also as i said on another thread, i'd like to get more artifact creatures in my cube (especially true colorless ones). i've decided to call this one "kitchen fox."
The more I think about that card, the more I like it. Being an artifact and colorless makes all the difference in the world. Plus it also gains you life. Pretty sweet for little fox made of metal.
Hmm, just noticed that I don't have a 3-cmc artifact creature. Still, I think this card should be named Filigree Filler because all I see is 24th card written all over it.
If I can find a random artifact to cut I may test it. Been trying to skim down my aggro concentration a bit, maybe I can have Ankh of Mishra ride the bench for a while.
Imagine you're the guy with the Carnophage out and your opponent casts this. How awful does that feel? Is it "fairly awful" or "soul-crushingly awful? I can't decide.
Like, I don't expect it to be a colorless Kitchen Finks, but it's not even particularly better than Sea Gate Oracle in the one situation where it's supposed to shine.

Also, this scales nicely into Elder Deep-Fiend and Distended Mindbender. Looking forward to seeing a little fox turning into a huge eldrazi.

Two life on etb is a significant improvement and the type "artifact" is relevant with Delirium and presumably artifact synergies in Kaladesh so yes
It's contextually way better even though on raw card power it's not much different

So, you wouldn't play Lone Missionary if it gave two life less, so you're saying two life actually make a difference.

Imagine cast this card in any situation/matchup where your opponent isn't attacking you with a Carnophage or Gore-House Chainwalker something similar.
