Considering all the hype that Regal Behemoth is generating (and it may indeed be deserving of such), I'm surprised I haven't heard even a mention of this card. When I saw both this and Grenzo spoiled at the same time, this was the card that excited me the most (and I do very much like Grenzo). A 5/5 flyer for seven that draws a card every turn you're the monarch and dominates the board if you can just hold that position for even just a little while. Just like all Monarch cards this one can backfire from a combination of attacking pressure+removal and a weak defensive stance on your end, but the ceiling for this is quite high. I look forward to both reanimating this on turn two and going to work, and ramping this out with some green cards on turn 4-5. Either way, seems like a solid cube consideration.
Too expensive for too little effect. A seven-drop that fails the terminate test is just unthinkable; it only barely passes the vindicate test, insofar as it will cantrip once. Even with haste I don't think this would be playable.
Certainly has a high ceiling. Wish it cost 6 mana instead of 7 tho.
The nice thing about the Behemoth is that if you lose monarch, when you get it back the next turn you can immediately break its ability. With this dragon, you don't get any advantage if you and the opponent are trading monarch back and forth.
I think this is the perfect payoff card for the big red deck. A flying 5/5 is hard to take the Monarch from unless your opponent is going wide and even if it is immediately answered, you still get a card out of it.
If it sticks for just one upkeep, you're probably going to win.
I will try it over Form of the Dragon. However there may not be room for it in medium cubes.
Green is the best color for 6+ drops. Red is the worst color for 6+ drops, especially with both wildfires, Chandra, and inferno Titan being great. It can be a pretty nifty reanimator target, but we have plenty of those without playing cards explicitly for the role.
Edit: I will note that I'd be more interested in this than behemoth if both cost 6 or both cost 7.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
While I do believe this is a miss, it is pretty nasty if your opponent can't immediately challenge you for the monarch. I mean, if you cast this and they can't take it, you're getting at least 10 power worth of flying dragons and drawing at least 2 cards. That's really good value for 7 mana. But of course if they can, you're left with a pretty rough 7-drop.
This thing was a first-pick for us in CNS2 Limited. It's a house in that environment.
I suspect it's probably too slow for traditional cubes, but I'll be throwing it into my Multiplayer Conspiracy module. Should be fine in there.
