I feel like people are too focused on the artifact synergy when the card is actually pretty good even without many artifacts. Say I'm rakdos aggro and my opponent show and tells out an emrakul. I can sac my sword of body and mind or mox to destroy it. There are plenty of artifacts run in decks that aren't "the artifact" deck. What's rakdos' worst nightmare? An early batterskull, this deals with that. People complaining that he can't protect himself and kill things, you should be on the front foot playing an aggro deck, if they can swing out at daretti with 3+ guys and not suffer for it they deserve to win. I'd run this in an aggro deck as a 2 cheaper vraska honestly.
If you don't support the artifact deck, it may even have a chance to compete for the #3 slot on its own behind Cackler and Command. If you do support the artifact.dec, this likely becomes the best Rakdos card.

My thoughts exactly. I only run three cards per guild and this makes the cut. I won't miss Dreadbore too much.
I've 5 guild slots and this comes in, no doubt. I wondering for what exactly. Falkenrath Aristocrat or, like some have suggested, Dreadbore. The last one wouldn't be a bad idea because a lot of quality PW removals has been print lately. Falkenrath Aristocrat would be the logic choice, but it is so unique and powerful.
Works beautifully with mycosynth lattice or liquimetal coating.
Ill happily coat a swamp to sac and kill your Emrakul. Or ill coat your tarmogoyf and create 3 copies for myself

We support the Tezz artifact decks, and he'd be a good splash there. He's also fine in a control deck that can cast him, as he can kill a creature every other turn completely free and can protect himself relatively well until you can drop a wrath of some kind.
I'll test, but expect he won't be a permanent include.
I re-looked at my Rakdos segment and I too am still running dreadbore. I guess that section's just a lot thinner than I thought it was lol. Given that Ruinous Path and Hero's Downfall both fill that slot, it's an easy swap when I get a copy of this.
I think red is bound to get more artifact love in Kaladesh too, if Origins' offerings were anything to go by. I was on the fence about black's role in said deck because beyond Baleful Strix and Tezz, there ain't so much. Although its tutoring, discard, draw and goodstuff does make up the numbers well in that shell, it would be nice to see a little more artifact focus, which lacks much punch in that field despite its association with old Phyrexian and the Esper shard.
Also yet another reason to run Sentinel Dispatch, the dark horse of the original conspiracies - but it has excelled in my cube over time.
Oh, look, another 3 mana PW that provides CA and protects itself with a plus ability. Not like those have proven to be spectacular even without any deck synergy
But seriously, this looks like a top 3-4 Rakdos card even if you count cackles and have 0 artifact support. If you do have artifact.dek in red or black, probably just #1. Super happy with this guy since we want 1 walker per guild, but Sarkhan 2 was just too bad to stomach.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Most of the RB decks here are aggro, and this is not a perfect fit for aggro. I still like Dreadbore better as it truly fits every Rakdos deck and is an immediate and cheap answer therefore more important to keep certain strategies in check.
The card seems problematic if you are behind. You can block to keep damage off of you or daretti but then you are never saving fodder for removal.
You have a powered cube with a lot of artifact-based mana fixing like the talismans. Even if you are not strictly grixis, splashing for this guy seems easy and worth it. Of course it depends on what your players like to draft, but taking out a more or less redundant RB card for this unique PW at least for testing might be a thing.
Playing this and sacrificing an artifact for removal immediately is servicable but unexciting. I do not see the redundancy as a bad thing, and I do not want to include a narrow card over a card that sees play in every deck in its colors that I also want for balance reasons.

That's provided you don't have any other artifacts to sac in the first place. Planeswalkers are all inherently bad when you're behind, but I think this does about a good a job of protecting itself as you can ask for at its cost. Can you think of any 3-drop walker that protects itself so well?
But if it protects itself it is also a do nothing card, and most artifacts I play in rakdos decks are not things I want to sacrifice. If I sacrifice a sword and pay three mana for a Dreadbore I get a bad deal.

I do not want to play this as my three drop in an aggro deck - it contributes nothing offensively to the tempo the turn I play it. Aggro decks are also not positioned to use the ultimate well, so I am not building up for anything there.
I think this card will up a bit better than Nahiri. It's a strong card for an archetype not supported by its colors. A bit better as it plays well in stacks decks, but still not at the top of its guild.
This card doesn't go in aggro decks. But that doesn't matter, because the card is insanely good in the decks it does go into. This card also gives my deck some direction, and is powerful enough to justify a splash or pull me into a specific archetype. Both are things that current Rakdos gold cards lack.
And it absolutely supports a deck that is already in its colors. Welder, Daretti 1, Feldon, Tezz AOB ...Grixis is already THE shell for this deck. It automatically drops into an existing deck that is already playing its colors.
I'd play this in basically every BR aggro deck I've ever drafted. If you're the one applying pressure they can't force you to chump with the constructs, so it'll basically kill something every other turn for 3 mana.

I think this card looks horrendous in aggro, since it applies no pressure and at times you'll have to earn that removal. Like talk about a dud if your curve is T1 aggro 1 drop T2 aggro 2 drop T3 defender lol like that is a seriously seriously bad plan for aggro.

Ya, if this thing is in my aggro deck, something went horribly, horribly wrong in the draft.

Grixis requires another color and that is the main problem. On top of being a gold card it is narrow and that is a tough pill to swallow. It is a lot less exciting when you realize how little play the card will see compared to other cube cards.
If daretti was Dimir or Izzet it would have been a lot stronger (and in a weaker guild too).
Rakdos has received a lot of support recently for the deck that wants to play this (and for that matter the other) Daretti, and going three colors has never been an issue for drafters if they appropriately take lands.
Also, Izzet is probably one of if not the strongest guild I think. Ral Zarek, Dack Fayden, Izzet Charm, Fire/Ice, Dack's Duplicate, Prophetic Bolt, Electrolyze--you're probably cutting a REALLY good card to put Izzet-shifted version of this card into the cube, whereas I feel pretty good removing Dreadbore/Terminate/Removal variant for this guy.
It's narrow, but it looks like a) a card I would readily splash for if I'm in that deck already and b) might draw me into drafting that deck if I saw it early. So I think it's a fine gold card. The sort I prefer, in fact, over the likes of Dreadbore and Detention Sphere.

Curious what your cut will be to try this card.
It's a slam include for me and after Olivia, Mobilized for War was kind of a bust I have an easy cut.
