Reminds me of Grinning Demon. Normally people stay away from these types of punisher cards but sometimes it's quite tempting. He fills your yard and is fairly giant for the cost. I could see him going into some lists.
Mindbreak Demon 2BB
Creature - Demon
Flying, trample
When Mindbreaker Demon enters the battlefield, put the top 4 cards of your library into your graveyard.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you don't have 4 or more card types in your graveyard, lose 4 life.
4/5
His drawback is much steeper than both Abysal Persecutor / Desecration Demon, plus his drawback deals as much damage as he does so racing can be an issue.
It seems like a black creature that cares about your graveyard like Tarmogoyf. It feels very balanced for a mythic demon.
Let us not forget that waaaay back in the day, Juzam Djinn was considered Really powerful at 5/5 for 2BB. This new one has Flying and Trample. Even Baneslayer Angel costs 5 (cmc).
It's probably playable in Standard and maaaaybe in Modern.

I'd rather cube with Juzam Djinn than this guy, 4 damage a turn is A LOT more than 1 damage a turn.
If it did 2 damage instead of 4 damage, I would try cubing it.
As it stands, 4 card types is a lot and milling 4 cards in limited is also a lot. Tarmogoyf has no drawbacks outside of P/T, so the two are not really comparable outside of needing multiple cards types in the graveyard. Gofy gets to be a decent early game beater and scales, where this demon does not scale.
It is a pretty easy pass for me, and I am not sure what Baneslayer Angel has to do with anything other than being able to smite the holy **** out of this demon. Her stats were much more relevant than Flying, Trample.
The last ability, the one that cares about 4 types in the grave, is an ability word (something like "ascension"), meaning this is somehow a regular theme on Shadows over Innistrad. Are they really print multiple cards that count this? That's so weird, very very weird.
I'm actually excited over 'ascension' or whatever the ability is called. I love graveyard shenanigans and this ability leads me to believe the graveyard will be a major player in SOI. IMHO black needs all the discard outlets and self mill it can get.
Mindbreak Demon, despite the fact that it will mill you four cards when it ETB, is still not a good card. The four points of damage is just too much. Abyssal Persecutor laughs at this.
Calm down, dude. I merely mentioned that this demon cares about types in the grave. Goyf is cheap but still has to scale up as you said. Also it doesn't have trample or flying.
Now, I only pointed out Baneslayer as a standard 5/5 creature that has seen a lot of play. I was comparing power levels and costs and downsides of creatures that are 5/5's or so.
Not every card (including mythics) can be amazing or do Everything you want it to do.
It seems that many of the people that post comments on this site are a little hasty in their trolling of new cards.
Too much downside and not enough upside for cube (you die to your own creature before it kills your opponent if you can't turn it off). However, this ability strongly suggests we're getting more GY matters in SOI, which hopefully means more flashback, which I am super excited about.

It looks like you didn't get the hint about the cube tag. This is the Cube forum, so we're not talking about whether Mindbreak Demon is playable in Standard or Modern formats, just whether or not it's powerful, efficient, or perhaps versatile enough to be worth playing in a Limited format with the best cards from the history of Magic. It's a pretty high bar to clear, and that bar gets higher every time a new set comes out. Most cube managers don't need more than a few black 4-drops, so don't be surprised if posters on this forum are critical of this one.
As for Mindbreak Demon, I'm not so sure it will be all that hard to get 4 card types into the 'yard by turn 4 once you've milled yourself for an additional 4. It seems pretty normal to have a creature and an instant or sorcery in the 'yard by the 4th turn in the kind of aggro or midrange decks that would want to run this, and milling 4 almost guarantees you'll get a land in there as well if you haven't already cracked a fetch. That doesn't mean this creature is risk-free, but it seems to me that at least half the time, you won't be taking any damage at all from it during your upkeep.
Seeing how few cubes have picked up on Thunderbreak Regent, I really doubt a protection-less version of it that sometimes kills you is going to be up anybody's alley. Granted there are a lot of leaps in that assessment, but the point is that pure beatsticks at this point on the curve already have a pretty big barrier to entry, and the drawback is going to be a very real issue.
The stats are good and some self-mill is nice, but the drawback is too severe. Getting land, creature, instant and sorcery into your graveyard isn't too hard, but if you miss for only a turn or two, you will lose a lot of life. I would have been interested in this card if you only lost 2 life instead of 4. And if Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet wasn't spoiled the same day. The latter doesn't have evasion, but he gains you life rather than loses you even more life. So, I pass on the demon. (And btw, he is not a "punisher" card.)
The last ability, the one that cares about 4 types in the grave, is an ability word (something like "ascension"), meaning this is somehow a regular theme on Shadows over Innistrad. Are they really print multiple cards that count this? That's so weird, very very weird.
I suppose it will be the new threshold. It accomplishes something similar (improving the cards with this mechanic once your graveyard is filled in a certain way) with less counting involved and probably with more predictability (if the mechanic always triggers during upkeep). As such, I can see it being one of the block's main mechanics. This demon would be one of the mechanic's flagship cards, since it is simultaneously an enabler (due to his self-mill ability) and a profiteer.
I was really surprised by the translation. They first one I saw just said cards, so I viewed teh self mill as a plus but now that ability is a minus. And as someone who runs thunderbreak regent a 4 power flying 4 drop becomes playable when it has more upside than downside. Oh well would have been nice but it is not really what I am looking for as I have lots of imperfect midrange demons to choose from.
Would be a lot better if it reduced the life loss by one per card type in your grave, instead of being binary. (Which also seems like a mechanic with more design space, but what do I know?)

I am perfectly calm, just because I am not soft with my words does not mean I am upset. I swear, people this day and age have a hard time handling the internet.
I am not being hasty, I am being real. Your comparison was shoddy, and I simply commented on it.

Well, trample IS pretty important in a world of 1/1 flying tokens (which lots of cubes can make a lot of), but yeah, the drawback on this is still way too harsh.
I think the biggest problem with the card is this common scenario:
Your grindy midrange deck is up against a reasonably aggressive deck. They put down a couple of quick weenies to take the early tempo lead. You've played a fetchland and removal spell and have a bunch of powerful top end stuff in hand, but they're still hitting you unopposed on the ground. It's now your turn 4, you're at 11 life, and you have this in hand. Do you even want to play it? It's seemingly an ideal scenario to play this card, but you're still probably about 50% or more to miss, and if you do then you probably just lose to your own triggers. What good is a midrange fatty if it can't do midrange fatty things?
Calm down was meant to address your sharp retort. You need not comment so irresponsibly and harshly on someone else's passing comment. It was unnecessary to "correct" anything I said. I was making a basic comparison.
Shoddy is spelled with 2 d's.
Finally, your mention of "people having a hard time handling the Internet" was cheap, dim-witted, immature, and inappropriate. This is a forum on Magic cards. I do not care to argue further with you or anyone else.
Related but tangential: Seems like the "Ascension" keyword this demon has is the updated version of Threshold. Maybe it'll play off of cards having different GY content requirements as opposed to being an across the board requirement like Threshold was.

Really missing that fifth point of power. I'd need more GY synergy to consider him, though maybe not that much more.

In any case, I think the drawback on the demon is just a little too harsh. Four types is hard to hit early, even if you build around it.

Trample means it can't be chumped by Spirit tokens, and a 4/5 flier beats every other common cube flier except for Baneslayer Angel, the demon tokens from Priest of the Blood Rite/Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath, Dragonlord Silumgar, Dragonlord Atarka, or Thundermaw Hellkite - all of which cost at least one more mana. Add to that the fact that the self-mill can help support graveyard shenanigans, and I think this might be worth testing. I'm more excited about testing Kalitas, but I might try this out instead of Master of the Feast for a bit.
