I run a pretty loose list admittedly that is built to cater to my playgroup. In my Dimir section I have Ashiok, Strix and Duskmantle Seer. I love the Seer for the good value body and flying and also the fun he creates during unkeep however, the new Silumgar is going to replace the Seer. He is undeniabley powerful and he looks more like an Otter than a Dragon. This isnt a pro or a con, just an observation. I am exited for this guy and also for more playable Dragons in Cube!
Strong card, but 6 mana is a lot, as is the 2-color requirement. This is no Sower of Temptation, but it's a decent option for medium sized cubes. I would not cut Tog, Strix or Tezz for it though.
I'm unsure on this. It looks good, not great. The only cards in my Dimir section I would consider cutting for it are Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, and Far // Away. And I doubt I would axe Ashiok.
this guy is bad against aggro for the same reasons most control creatures are bad against aggro. You are often dead before your six-drops hit the board. Sower coming down on turn 4 is huge against aggro matchups.
You and I have very different experiences with Sower against aggro decks. I'm willing to concede that you don't want a ton of 6 drops against aggro, but I've never found Sower to be that good against aggro decks. The body is virtually irrelevant, it's just a worse Control Magic. Silumgar, on the other hand, comes down later, but is more likely to actually end the game when he comes down, taking their best creature and providing a wall that 2 and 3 power creatures can't get through. Sower always feels like a bump in the road that wasted my fourth turn when I could've been playing something that actually made a difference.
This is going to get a long look at my cube, given its slower environment.
My Dimir section is currently Ashiok / Finkel / Consuming Aberration / Havengul Lich / Extract from Darkness / Wrexial. I think this probably goes in over Wrexial fairly easily - just as evasive, just as damaging to resolve, easier to cast (and a big flying dragon for all the Timmies).

If an aggro deck is built correctly you don't have that two extra turns to stabilize. When a four drop control magic effect stapled onto a creature doesn't have a way to deal with removal I can live with that, when my 6 drop doesn't, that's a dealbreaker.
Only that in this case, being stapled to a body is a liability, not a boon. At least to a body with only 2 toughness. I've found Sower of Temptation to be okay-ish, not great. It is worse than Control Magic under most circumstances.
Adding 3 points of toughness and immunity to a few black removal spells really helps and makes the body a lot less of a liability. And stealing a planeswalker is obviously powerful, too.
I wouldn't cut Infiltrator for it either. It costs 6 mana, and my Dimir decks would rather have the card advantage engine. But it's not far off from cracking the top 4. I think this is a good card. It hovers in that next best tier option with Seer and Finkel and the like.
I think there's room for this guy if you're running five or more cards in your guild sections. He's probably on par with things like Far//Away and Duskmantle Seer. At the very least, I think those are the cubes that have room to really test this guy. If you're at four per guild and you're not supporting the artifact deck, then he could probably go into what would normally be the Tezzeret slot. I may test this guy over Far//Away.
I'm definitely testing this guy over Seer. He may be expensive, but the game swing is huge, especially with the flexibility of stealing walkers post wrath in control mirrors.

Totally agree with this. I would try the dragon over Far//Away if I were still running that. I also like him more than Seer. And if I weren't supporting Grixis Artifacts in my cube, I wouldn't run Tezzeret and had another free Dimir slot.
As is, I just don't want to cut any of my five Dimir cards for a 6-drop. So, no dragon for me.
Running this guy for sure. Stealing planeswalkers is so busted. And while he's not as good as sower, there is serious value to not dying to every red burn spell and a chunk of the black removal.
My section before silumgar was
Ashiok, baleful, Tezz 2.0, Creeping tar pit.
I threw him in as a 5th and he was absolutely nuts.
G1 I play a turn 2 tinker into an aether searcher and nicol bolas(I'm a bit of a timmy personally) and destroy his sol ring with bolas. End of turn he entombs, followed by a reanimate on Dragonlord Silumgar, Needless to say, I got dumpstered, and learned against reanimator its much better to hit their swamps than their rocks. (targeting swamps with plays like this let me 2-1 him.
3/5 deathtouch is more respectable then I thought, as I was sitting on a bolt both games :/. I remember when Clever Impersonator was spoiled people were stoked due to a planeswalker clone, and some people still run zealous conscripts because it steals planeswalkers, This guy does that AND imitates sower of temptation. I think its much stronger then I originally thought it was.
I think he's solid overall, good but not great. He doesn't support any particular archtype, but he's a lot of fun and very flavorful. He's ranked last in the Dimir guild for me, but I'm not in a hurry to replace him anytime soon. If I had a powered cube that supports artifact matters, he probably wouldn't make the cut.
