A huge upgrade to Mob. If you have even one untapped creature to convoke this with, this functions as a Hero's Downfall that gives you a connive as a bonus. In a board stall, when you can convoke this with 4 creatures, it just gets insane, you can spend 0 mana to connive 4 times and to unconditionally kill a creature or a planeswalker. This only seems bad in decks running very few creatures, but all black decks in a table running only a few creatures is very unlikely.
It’s Hero's Downfall x Venerated Loxodon + multiple looting. I used to run Stoke the Flames and it was pretty good; this seems much better. Instant speed connive means you could connive midcombat after you block to build your own mass pump spell. It seems useful in Golgari Reanimator strategies where an elf or token can become a discard outlet for a powerfulfatty. I’m cutting Never to Return for this.
I probably have room for both this and Baleful Mastery at 720, but these two cards definitely compete for a slot. Curious what people think about that comparison. This card has tremendous upside - I think I like it more.
I'm curious about a comparison between this card and Stoke the Flames.
The latter seems to have left many cubes, and it's quite similar to this card except it can go face - so one wonders what the differences are?

The big difference is the connive part. I'd be allll over stoke the flames if it had that line of text.

Absolutely this, if I could loot up to four times when I convoked Stoke the Flames, it'd be a completely different card.
I was planning to cut Hagra Mauling for this at 630, but I'm actually not sure if having access to the MDFC is better than the options Baleful Mastery provides.
I think its a good card, but I'm reluctant to give up my two Doom Blade variants unless a DownFall/ Baleful Mastery variants replace it.

How has this been for people? I was excited about it, but Ive found only aggro decks can consistently have multiple creatures, and usually those want to be attacking, not convoking. Ive found it can be pretty awkward to cast, but only have a little experience with it. I was going to cut it for bitter triumph unless people think I should give it a longer stay.

It was okay, a bit disappointing for how excited I was about it at first. It didn't last too long for me because I wanted something a bit more versatile mana cost wise. The effect is powerful, you're giving up a lot of tempo to maximize the convoke / connive.

I've found this to be an incredibly powerful card in the right deck (BW tokens in particular). Its not like Bitter Triumph or Baleful Mastery that is good in every deck.
My rough recommendation is, if you support black-aggro, this is a solid include. If not, then I would cut this.
Scheme has been really good for me. Black creature decks love the connive triggers, and it both generates value and answers the opponent's best threat for cheap when you can turn the discarded cards into value for you.

This is my experience too. Big fan of the Scheme, at least for now. That it's much more interesting than the nth removal spell is a bonus.

Not sure how I feel about it in my cube where I only have a black midrange package.
If it was 3B I'd slam dunk it

I think that’s exactly the cut at your size. This card has an awesome ceiling.
