Ulvenwald Monstrostiy is the Canadian card every printed. It’s a cross between a Moose and a Grizzly bear! To top it off, it’s surrounded by Maple Leaves! I can hear O Canada! Playing just looking at this card. Wilfred Laurier/10 will test.
This is easily one of the most interesting cards in the set so far, it goes really well into a ton of different strategies. Ramp loves this because it can both function as an early ramp target and a bigger mana sink for the late game. The only thing not to like is the fact that it is double-faced.
This card is sweet and I will be testing it in my 540. I love Questing Beast and even though this card isn't as good as it I am a huge fan of cards that hit hard with haste.
I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
The way I see it, most ramp top-ends for “fair” ramp decks double as cheat targets for reanimation, sneak attack, and so forth. This card cannot serve that function as it’s not possible to cheat the scarier side into play, meaning that this is a card that ONLY has a home in ramp.dec, which may be a bit too narrow for some cubes.
I guess this card kind of resembles master of warfare/hexdrinker as far as needing a big investment to start working but the fact that this doesn’t come down early like those two and that the investment has to come all at once (again, restricting this to ramp decks) makes me sad.
Card is good, but prob not good enough for anything but large cubes.
Bonus points if you like the unga bunga green philosophy and slant your green section a little more aggressive.
The more agressive your green section, the better this card becomes.
This card is both a mediocre agro curve topper and a mediocre ramp target that has some added modality value.
If you can pay the flip cost, it becomes a must kill in 0 to 1 turns, which is no joke.
Hey it's bigger Kessig Prowler! I probably don't have room for it, but I tend to like serviceable beaters that have manasink options. Might help with your 4mc creature density if you want a serious green aggro-midrange theme and need more behind Questing Beast and the like.
I’m on the fence. I can see this getting play, and I like it more than Polukranos, as its mana sink ability is better and haste is better than +1/+1. That said, I cut Polukranos a couple years ago because it was drafted as 23rd playable filler in green ramp and midrange.
Right now the slot for this would be Esika’s Chariot which I think is a more interesting card. We already have Questing Beast as a better stat monster haste threat, and drafting this feels like “I got the significantly worse Questing Beast.”
I love 4-mana chonky hasters in cube. Turns 3-5 are when the planeswalkers come out and try to establish board control. These do a great job at disrupting them.
Anybody have any in-game results with this guy yet?
We’ve had a few drafts with it, and it’s better than I thought. It seems to be better than Polukranos as both the initial stat monster (haste 4/4 > 5/5) and effect from the mana sink. I also like it more than Esika’s Chariot.

I think I'm fairly happy with my green section right now - The cards I'm unhappy with are cards I have for archetype redundancy reasons.
I could see this being good, but it doesn't feel like slam dunk
