Modal Lay of the Land / Diabolic Tutor is interesting. Cleave is a really clever mechanic and this is pretty useful at any point of the game. Probably not a high Golgari pick, but it's definitely a useable option for those looking for more cantrips / tutors.
I don't think this is too good for several reasons:
- Traverse the Ulvenwald under performed
- Golgari is really over stacked - I'm cheating a bit in my cube to go to 11 cards over the traditional 10 and Pernicious Deeds is already on the bench
- 4 CMC is a bit too much - and Green-black isn't a good color for this type of ability.

I like it.... not quite enough to test, but seems like a pretty sweet 1 of type effect to help mana fix, while providing some end game value.
I learned through testing traverse that the base effect is a bit too below par for a high powered vintage cube.. but in a large or slower cube, seems like a fun of.
I really think this should be - If this spell was casted for this cleave clause, search for any card in your library instead.
I'm not sure how this even works with the innistrad theme ...

That said, it's a mechanically cool effect, but the cleave cost feels overcosted on this card specifically.
Nonetheless, this feels very weak. With a 4cc color heavy tutor you are unlikely to cast this on the same turn. The 1cc option is only ok.

I couldn't agree more.
I feel overload is a much better execution. The design is very elegant and the overload really fits the Izzet theme
