First, it is really effective at deck thinning. You play this early, and every cantrip or removal spell you cast throughout the game will usually draw you a land card. Not only does Quandrix Apprentice help ensure land drops, but it also helps to ensure that future draws are spells as opposed to lands.
Second, it helps build bridges between several different spell-savvy decks. While Simic proper is rarely a spells-matter strategy, Temur, Sutlai, and Bant decks tend to be stuffed to the gills with removal, which will often trigger this guy. If your deck is playing lots of Brainstorm variants, it will love Quandrix Apprentice!
Third, it supports spells decks without being bad in normal strategies. I've been testing this card a bit, and it has an insane ceiling in spell-based tempo decks. There are some really nuts play patterns with this and Dreadhorde Arcanist which can result in huge amounts of value for Quandrix Apprentice's pilot.
I think this card is going to be great in lean cubes that focus on cutting fat and streamlined gameplay.
If your cards can function well in a spells matters shell, this card is excellent.
This. While this card is powerful in the right shell, green is the worst color for Spells Matters type cards since Green by far has the least amount of instants and sorceries. Most Simic decks of mine are pretty creature focused and would rather have something like Coiling Oracle / Ice-Fang Coatl for the guaranteed draw effect, and benefits from being blinked / recurred.
