I like the tutor, but the reanimation is kind of limited for my own cube. Can be nice for things like tangle wire and has funny interactions with powder keg and friends. But I'm not sure if the reanimation is going to be consistent enough? Returning a countered sword/jitte, and having another way to shut off winter orb for your turn a nice.
Maybe I'm just not seeing it or I'm under valuing the reanimation cause I'm not powered, or just blind. black lotus over and over would be sweet.
The activated ability is far more narrow than Goblin Welder's, but the built-in artifact Entomb is pretty spicy. I'll have to think on this one for a bit. Might be a worthwhile card.
This is more of a utility effect chainer than a bomb enabler, right? Welder can drop Battlespheres and Wormcoils into play if you can bin them whereas this guy seems better suited for flipping Winter Orbs and Tangle Wires and Powder Kegs and stuff in and out of play; and he's a lot better at it because he can "tutor" for one of the pieces you're trying to chain.
Not to mention that it can just drop a Sword of Fire and Ice into the 'yard and swap out a mox or something for it. Or even be used as a "discard outlet" in reanimator decks where I can just Entomb a fat reanimation artifact target from my graveyard and set up reanimation on the next turn. Especially sweet with a follow-up Recurring Nightmare.
The Entomb portion of the ability is way more interesting to me than the limited Welder, but both could be good. The card is spicy for sure but would that spice taste good sprinkled into the cube? Dunno.
My combo decks do tend to struggle with consistency as we usually 2-4 man glimpse draft so extra pieces are attractive to me.

I might test this, it looks interesting.
Pretty much my thoughts too. He's a value engine and he also fetches his own fuel. Seems like a very high ceiling even if he turns out a bit too cute.
I hate that they limited the Welder effect to 3cc... It would be an cool Modern card without the limitation, and I doubt it would be too strong given the fragility of the creature plus artifact requirement. Maybe Affinity would run 4x this guy plus one Battlesphere though which could be scary.
I'll probably pass on this for Cube, as that is a lot of work for a Sword or Shackles, and I don't need a 2cc red narrow Entomb creature.
At Unpowered I’ve already cut things like Welder / Academy Ruins. The Entomb for artifacts effect is very strong though. I’d be interested in this if my list were powered.
He can also make it harder to kill off a Sword for good without also killing him... any other random artifact, like a Daretti token, can be cashiered to get the Sword back. This is probably worth trying out.
Not all of him is great but there is lots of temptation here. If the body was better, or if he was 1 cmc, or if it even went up to 4 on the welder effect(for the stoneforge batterskull impression). Probably not trying it but am willing to listen to rainbow stories with it.
I want to use it in my Crucible decks. And decks playing this will be playing Welder, Daretti, Feldon, Etc. which will all love the fact that this guy can drop Battlespheres and Sundering Titans into the 'yard for 'em.
I am unsure how I feel about this card. I want to really like it, but at the same time I am fairly unsure how realistic the payoff for his Welding effect is. I run Time Vault, so I imagine this card with a crazy high ceiling and a fairly decent floor. As wtwlf states, you still get to entomb something off him and that effect is pretty strong on its own, if the deck can utilize it. Some of the Reanimator decks we draft are already targeting things that Goblin Engineer can Entomb, and having a second effect like that can be impactful.
I think with that, plus how high ceilings can be for certain Cubes, it is a card worth keeping an eye on. I am not convinced I will do any testing with it, but I would like to see how it plays for others in more average scenarios.

Did anyone who tested this card decide to keep it in? How has he fared since release?
I'm still on the fence about it and there probably isnt room for both it and Bloodrage Brawler as far as 2 drops in red that enable reanimator strategies go. And the Brawler is more generically useful to things like aggro.

An interesting combination between Goblin Welder and Stoneforge Mystic!

On spoiled card wishlisting and 'should-have-had'-isms:
I will get one for artifact cube but probably too fair for regular cube. Will probably test though.
