Giver of Runes

Better Mother of Runes on many aspects, but can't protect herself. Also, it is not a human, which may or may be not relevant in either direction depending on your cube. At which size do you run both?
This not being a human is unfortunate for my list, but I can still see testing it. It is annoying that it can't protect itself, which is a HUGE part of mom. The fact that you can decide to not kill this card until it matters may make it worse than it looks.
not to interested. I don't think I have room for 2 effects like this. and since OG can protect itself > the extra hit point + random protection from colorless. I think it's great though for larger cubes for a redundancy like effect. Also, willing to see others test results. Maybe the 2 toughness allows it to block 1/1 tokens will be more impactful than I initially think it will.
Pass. An extra point of toughness, the sometimes relevant colorless clause, all that doesn't even come close to the ability to protect itself that Mom provides.
playing a cube that limits protection this is the perfect balance. I havent been playing mom and now I can play step mom. very happy for the addition of this card.
I love her - undoubtedly one of the top 10 white 1-drops for cube, which gets her in for my 720. Mom's honestly a little /too/ busted - not Balance level where I feel the need to remove it from my cube for balance reasons, but enough that she's a reasonable first-pick for a bunch of different decks. This is a more fair version of the effect, but also, its floor is still fantastic.
This is a big fat shrug from me. The extra toughness and colorless protections aren’t meaningless upgrades at all. But not being able to protect herself is a massive downgrade. So often with Mom your opponent has one removal spell that is just blanked. Giver is just going to eat that removal every time. I almost feel like she’ll play like a white Spellskite... which isn’t terrible but I don’t know if I want or need that effect. I am curious though.
This is definitely not as frustrating to play against compared to Mother of Runes. This will simply eat a removal spell (which is not bad).
This set is giving a lot of redundancies in cube, making it more consistent. Perhaps there will be cube designers who want diversity and will choose only 1.
I think my 2/1’s are good enough so I still might pass on this.
Interesting. The extra toughness plus colorless.. spicy but Mom protecting herself just gives her so much play, she can do so many tricks, and feels so good to untap with. This card, not so much, it can just die. Also, never felt mom was a card I need more of, its great in white creature decks but nothing else.
I will definetly be playing this in addition to Mother of Runes no porblem. It also might replace Mother of Runes in my Bohemian Cube. Mom was always a bit too good there and this is a fantastic way to slightly depower that card.

For those who decided to play Sword of Dungeons & Dragons as a depowered version of the original swords, it's important to note that Giver of Runes actually is a Cleric, so you can't give a creature with the sword protection.
Probably not really important for most people here though. Nonetheless funny.
Mom protects herself so often and just the threat of being able to do so totally changes the math on the board. I don't see this one being nearly as good and I'm not sure duplicating the effect has much value in smaller cubes.
This is closer to a Spellskite variant of creature than a true Mother of Runes. They still need 2 removal spells to kill the creature they really want to remove ...they just don't have to do both removal effects in the same turn vs GoR. Worse than Mom for sure, but I still think that medium/large-sized cubes will be happy to have a little more redundancy in the creature protection department. Not a card for tiny cubes, IMO.
Mom is among my favorite 1-drops of all time, so I'm excited to play Mom and Stepmom in my 450. The drawback of not protecting herself may prove too severe, but I definitely want to try her out.
A 1 drop that absolutely forces a removal spell seems like a good card in my book. Never going to lose the mana efficiency war there and she will take over a creature standoff barring removal.

I am very happy to Cube her in my 720 over the 50th Savannah Lions variant, but I doubt I'd want her in a 360.
