I feel like we've always been a few key pieces away from having a sweet "lands matter" archetype in cube. We already run cards like Crucible of Worlds, Tireless Tracker, and Life from the Loam, and there are pretty decent pieces that have been in/out of cube at one time or another like Titania, Protector of Argoth. Does this sweet gruul 3 drop get us there? Probably not, but I freaking love "lands matter" cards so I want to talk about it! Outside of killer combinations like Crucible of Worlds or Life from the Loam, I'm not convinced he does enough. He feels like a midrange card and in the key turns of a game midrange decks don't really want to be pitching mana sources.
It is as you say: a great lands archetype is at our fingertips. The two abilities are both crucially important there, and a 2/5 body for 3 is a very good rate. The triple pip mana cost is the problem of course. This card is absolutely playable, but I don't think many people will play it unless they are really pushing for the archetype. Great guild cards are so often underplayed. I do like this quite a bit better than Mina and Denn, Wildborn, which I play to middling results.
One of the things we need to push this archetype is efficient landfall enablers. This is one of the best.
Looks difficult to cast, and the red activation costing 2 is a bummer love the design though. I'd test it at 1RG 3/5, but as it is it's just a bit awkward.
Man, all it needed was R Instead of 1R for the first ability for me to slam this in the cube. It's a real shame because I LOVE the design of this card, just wish it was more aggressively costed. An unfortunate easy pass from me.
Think this card is pretty decent. 2/5 for 3 mana is pushed stats and with the right engine, its other abilities can take over a game.
Don't think there's quite enough sweet land fall pay offs at the moment, or ways to combo off with this (I don't run loam) but we were only a couple cards away from this card being an interesting archetype enabler imo.
Pass for me, but cool card. I look forward to getting crushed by this card in limited
I'm really tempted to run this, but am not sold on it. I run all of the lands-matters cards mentioned above (except Titania, but she could come in), but RRG is rough.
