The thing I like about the boar is that it works nice with sneak attack. When you already have sneak attack on the table, through the breach is a dead card. However the boar you can put into play with sneak attack and then you can put another fatty into play with the boar. At the end of the turn you return it to your hand and next turn the fatty can be put into play again with sneak attack.

I think Ilharg works best in non-cheaty Ramp decks. While many have compared him to Baneslayer Angel, he also does have a Primeval Titan side to him in which that he is a threat by himself that helps enable future threats. Unlike Ilharg, I actually like Primeval Titan in straight ahead Cheaty Face decks, but I think Ilharg's best home might be best in decks that just want to ramp into big monsters / Tooth and Nail decks.
I like this guy, and I've been playing him in R/G or R/G/W, often with a Fires of Yavimaya.
I like that he tucks, but I also like that with fires he can immediately slam in for damage and his nice ability.
This makes him such a high threat that often he is prioritized for removal versus my smaller attackers.
The experience versus me was this guy and "sneaking in: Bogardan Hellkite, wiping out my air defense, then sneaking him in a second turn.
Just the tip of the "fun" iceberg of course :):)
I think there's exactly one reason to include this card: you support a Fires of Yavimaya archetype. Without haste, it's not only the worst of the cheatty cards --- which we really don't *need* more of --- it isn't a good rate in other decks. It would be better to play Glorybringer or Thundermaw in that slot for most cubes.
However, if you have a lot of cards that grant haste to support the fires archetype, I think you can consider it. I have Rhythm of the Wild, Surrak Huntcaller, Lightning Mauler, and Lightning Greaves in my 540. And I'm still not sure it'll be great in my list.
I don't think this card is really strong but it could be a nice addition to sneak attack decks, Fire damp or even control decks that need a resilient finisher. Not a staple but one that people can jam into any deck.
4. Polymorph Archetype - I feel I want some redundancy for Sneak Attack/ Through the Breach.
5. Ramp/ Reanimator - Not the worst target to ramp/ reanimate into - could provide instant speed kill the following turn.
I think what would push him over the top is extra redundancy for Fires/ Instant speed reanimation - but I'm a bit reluctant to make room for all this.
I'm thinking the alternative could be playing a card like Spellskite as a way to protect fatty cheat threats, creature combos, artifact decks from Pest Infestation/ Fiery Confluence.
As of late, I'm happy to have him as a backup piece for those decks.

1. Fires archetype - I incidentally have Generator Servant and Rhythm of the Wild for Big Red/ ramp, Storm, Persist etc. Provides a payoff.
2. WildFire archetype - survives wildfire
3. Shallow Grave / Goryo's Vengeance archetype - great instant speed reanimation target
4. Polymorph Archetype - I feel I want some redundancy for Sneak Attack/ Through the Breach.
