I've been testing this card for a while now, and decided to add it into my 540 as a semi-permanent trial basis. It has played quite well. It's really easy to make this effect asymmetrical, and unlike other sweeper effects, it has little to no collateral damage. I can play all the 4+cc small/utility creatures I want with impunity, and it hits a lot of aggro/midrange decks really hard. Unlike most of the other sweeper options, this build-around effect is really easy to make asymmetrical, and opens up some other deckbuilding options that might otherwise be more risky. I recommend trying it out if you're playing 540+ and want a surgical sweeper that has little effect on your own board.
I don't have a specific decklist on hand, no. I just drafted B/X slower midrange and control decks, played exclusively 4+cc creatures, and put Ritual of Soot in them. It is quite good when you get to keep all your creatures around and kill all/most your opponent's ones. Usually you want to curtail the number of Nekrataals/Chupacabras and Mulldrifters ...hell, just creatures in general... in your decks with sweepers in them to limit the collateral damage, and with Soot, you don't have to.
I definitely see the applications, but they seem narrow. Parallax Wave is my surgical sweeper of choice, which is both more powerful and versatile than Ritual of Soot.
It's been great in the same decks designed to break Pernicious Deed too. Nice to have another card that can benefit from a CMC-based design restriction.
